Governor Kidero REVEALS WHO is to BLAME for Destructive FLOODING in Nairobi City

By H.E Evans Kidero

First and foremost my sincere condolences for the loss of lives and destruction of property that occurred in our beloved City as a consequence of the worst floods this year. I am deeply saddened by the scenes, pictures and videos of the aftermath of yesterday’s heavy rains. My prayers and thoughts are with all those who have been affected in one way or the other.

The steady rain that has been pounding the City for the last 3 days reached an all time high of 80mm against an expected normal rainfall of 12mm. The City is likely to continue receiving more than average rainfall. The City will be subjected to increased incidents of flooding on the roads, destruction of properties, public open spaces and flooding of rivers which result in traffic congestion, inconvenience to residents and sometimes injuries and fatalities.

The Nairobi City County Government will continue to mobilize resources to attenuate and mitigate the severity and impact of the floods. At the same time the County Government wishes to highlight some of the challenges hampering effective operation of the drainage system and flood control.
These include;

1. Encroachment and obstruction of riparian reserves, natural water courses and drainage wayleaves and denial of access to drainage outfalls.

2. Indiscriminate disposal of solid waste consisting of excavated soils, construction debris and garbage onto water courses, road reserves and sewerage system restricting the proper functioning of the system.

3. Unsupervised poorly constructed and undersized storm water drainage infrastructure.

4. Passage of water pipes, telecommunication cables and other services through drainage infrastructure.

5. Depleted seepage zone due increased urban roof and impervious ground cover not matched by increase in capacity of the drainages system

6. Blocking of drains for urban agricultural activities

7. Informal Settlements on low lying areas and flood plains.

8. Deposition of soil into wetlands and marshy areas which affects land drainage and the ecosystem.

9. Physical developments and have preceded development of supporting infrastructure such as roads and drainage.

10. Blockage caused by debris trapped by grills installed across drains.

11. Landscaping on frontages which hinders discharge of storm water into the drain.

Nairobi residents and members of the public are urged to co-operate with Nairobi City County and National Government officials and their agencies to facilitate works to improve the drainage system.

Furthermore, residents are urged to dispose their solid waste responsibly, as this poses the biggest challenge to drainage system. The Nairobi City County Government also advices that fees for minor domestic drainage clearing, improvement and maintenance works have been waived during this period. Where the scope of the works is large in magnitude and affect large areas, persons are encouraged to contact the County Government for technical advice and assistance.

The Nairobi City County Government urges all residents to take care of their frontages and ensure the drainage infrastructure is free of debris. Please oblige in order to make Nairobi a Better City with Better Life.

I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the emergency service personnel, army and volunters for their well coordinated response to this disaster. The loss suffered would have been far greater without the skill, dedication, compassion, and sacrifice of these emergency responders.

LAST APPEAL to Uhuru: DON’T BURN the Elephants Tusks PRESERVE them in a Museum

If Kenya was tourism conscious society, the tusks set to be burnt ought to have been preserved in a national wildlife museum or a memorial for public viewing. This would not just raise awareness on the tragedy of poaching but tourists – domestic and international – visiting such sites will pay, earning the country the money we need to fight poaching.

School children visiting such sifts will be disgusted. Rather than burn the ivory, we need to go back to the wild and get the carcasses of the elephants that were killed, and ‘dry’ them or ‘freeze’ them then enclose them in transparent glass cubes for public viewing.

Every Ivory snatched from a poacher should be piled and preserved in a heavily protected museum. The government would then employ tour guides (direct source of employment) and our enterprising citizens will open food kiosks and sell artificial merchandise therein. That’s how economy grows alongside historical artifact development.

To burn ivory in this day and age is to do so simply for sentimental value.

As a country, we are just starting to develop our history. 100 years from now those who will dwell here will mostly likely be dismayed that we denied them an opportunity to learn from our conservation struggles. Let’s preserve ivory, rather than burn them!
I wait for a riveting counter-argument.

BREAKING: Uhuru to VISIT Huruma as Frustrated Public DEMANDS for Answers on HOAX Disaster body NDOC

News flash: President Uhuru Kenyatta expected to visit the Huruma site as rescue efforts continue under the stewardship of RED CROSS.

Now this is where my anger activates: Does anyone know of or heard about the Kenya National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC)? This is Kenya’s premier agency in matters disaster preparedness and management. It is domiciled in the Ministry of Devolution and Planning drawing colossal sums of funds from the Exchequer but no one can see their impact anywhere.

In developed countries that we admire, the National and local governments disaster agencies are well equipped to respond to disasters depending on the magnitude.

Isn’t it time we converted Red Cross into a state agency?

In our public policy class we interrogated the effectiveness of this agency and 4 years down the line the situation remains the same.65

PHOTOS of Huruma Building that Collapsed and WHY Such Tragedies will ALWAYS happen

‪#‎HurumaTragedy‬ Will Always Be With Us

By Donald Kip

When building tragedies happen in Kenya, the response is so predictable: Red Cross will rush to the scene, the injured rushed to KNH, the dead to City Mortuary, recrimination occurs between City Council and National Construction, national leaders are silent. Then we move on till the next tragedy.

But collapse of buildings in Nairobi is symptomatic of a bigger problem: Inspite of all the big projects you are seeing, Kenya is still not out of the woods. In Human Development Index, we still compete at the bottom of the world with such miserable countries as Sierra Leone, Somalia and Afghanistan. 51% of our people live in absolute poverty. The income inequality between the rich and the poor is ever widening.

For Kenya to pull itself by the straps of its boot, few things are needed: accountability must be real and working … Everyone elected or employed to a public office ought to deliver or go … And they ought to be arrested. Accountability includes moral responsibility for failures.

Construction of Tarmac roads and power and water supply to every village. And people must demand for public services and accountability without tribal blinkers. Poverty and tragedies affect all tribes.

Radio Queen Ciiku Muiruri EXPLAINS all you need to know about Beyonce’s #LEMONADE

By Ciiku Muiruri

On ‪#‎Lemonade‬. Gorgeous women like Beyonce, Halle Berry, Rihanna etc are all getting cheated on and y’all are in the gym working on your bodies and paying big bucks for that make up and wardrobe. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, it’s not about the way you look; it’s about how you make him feel.

Yes, lemonade is on 🔥🔥🔥 fire (making women everywhere want to dump their cheating boyfriend even when they don’t have one). I was enthralled along with the rest of you watching that epic documentary but please, don’t be misled. You simply can’t cut a man’s balls off in public and expect to remain in a happy marriage, even if you’re Beyoncé.

FACT: Wounding a man’s sensitive pride is the most common cause of marriage failure. Not cheating (Queen Bey hasn’t left him) not physical abuse (how many women do we beg to get out of abusive situations?). It’s simply about how you make him FEEL.

Men are not like us. They don’t see love the same way we see it. Quite simply, admiration is food for a man’s soul. He needs to feel admired more than he needs to feel loved. We get it twisted because we care about love more than admiration. So Jay Z will be in awe of his wife and all of her professional accomplishments but she doesn’t want his admiration (she gets that from the the rest of us), she wants his love. On the other hand, Bey will love him with all her soul but he doesn’t really need that, he needs her admiration.

And does he get that from her? Miss Independent who reminds us (and him) every second how she doesn’t need him? “Keep your money, I got my own, boy!” Boy? Seriously? She gleefully tells us how he shed tears to get her back. Did we really need to know that? She wonders how he can cheat on her – She ain’t no average chick she tells us. Yes you are Bey. You are actually worse than the average chick because you feel entitled.

You are no different from every other girl out there who made a buck and made a man her equal. And depending on the day of the week, her subservient. Call it feminism. Call it whatever you want. But you forget what drives a man. His greatest pleasure is to be admired by a woman and his greatest pain is when his masculinity is belittled by a woman. This is a FACT and all your female empowerment agendas will NEVER change this.

Either become a lesbian, agree to settle for a wimp or change your approach. Be humble. Work on your soul as well as your body. Put the Lord first and marry a man who does the same. If both of you are God fearing you will never have to deal with this crap, trust me. What was that line Bey used, about using the pages of the bible as a tampon? Ehhh. (???)

You have to make your man Number One after God. Respect him. Admire him. That love you want from him will only be unlocked if he feels needed. If he feels he can protect you. If you are vulnerable with him. Ever wondered how some ugly chick can land the hottest guy in town? Now you know.

“Becky with the good hair” is just waiting in the wings because you have made your hubby a laughing stock. He probably agreed to the whole thing to keep his family together but it will slowly chip away at him. We will mock him. We will remove the last vestige of male pride he has. Because that’s what we do to the rich and famous. Remember ‘Ring The Alarm’? That was you fighting to keep your man when you said you’d be damned to see another chick on his arm. You propped him up even as you made your displeasure known. But what have you done now? You have emasculated him.

The big, bad rapper has been schooled by his wife. How do you imagine this eventually plays out? I for one won’t be surprised if this marriage disintegrates. Sure, the other girl is not a superstar. She doesn’t have your body or talent or legion of fans. But she will eventually have your man. Because of how she makes him FEEL. The beehive can’t keep you warm at night. For heaven’s sake girl, give Jay Z his balls back.

EXCITEMENT In Meru as Residents AWAIT ‘Mkombozi’ Raila Odinga

MERU AWAITS RAILA WITH BATED BREATH

Following his successful closing of the 3rd Devolution Conference in Meru last week, CORD Leader the Rt. Hon Raila Odinga returns to Meru this Saturday in what is being seen as a move to reinvigorate ODM party affairs ahead of the 2017 general elections. Raila is expected to also continue his highly visible campaign to market Miraa which is the mainstay of the region’s economy.

In his speech during the devolution conference, the CORD leader implored the Jubilee government to explore ways of diplomatically engaging the European Union with a view to facilitating the opening of lucrative export markers for Meru Miraa farmers. In a quick rejoinder later that same afternoon, while formally declaring Miraa a cash crop of Kenya, President Uhuru ordered the Treasury to allocate Ksh1bn toward the growth and marketing of Miraa. This did not go unnoticed by keen political observers of the vote-rich Mt. Kenya region.

In his forthcoming highly symbolic visit to Meru, sources say the former Prime Minister will immediately upon arrival seek the blessings of respected Njuri Ncheke Elders at their shrine. The Njuri Ncheke form the apex of Ameru cultural elders and are extremely influential in the socio-economic and political decision making amongst the Meru.

Thereafter, the ODM Party Leader will head to the Maua Polytechnic for a one on one meeting with ODM delegates from the region during which house cleaning issies will feature peominently. Raila is also expected to privately meet some of his personal pointmen and women from the region.

The highlight of the visit will culminate in a mammoth public rally at Maili Tatu Grounds in Igembe Central. Raila will be accompanied by a a high powered opposition delegation.

EXPOSED: WHAT single women do at night

A lot of my married friends find it hard to imagine what a single person does with herself during a solitary evening. It seems almost inconceivable that one would choose not be part of a jolly, lively home, full of people, with something happening every second of the day.

And yes, there are those days when one is willing to honestly answer 101 questions on an Internet dating site in the search for the perfect mate and the perfect family – only for the screen to turn black before displaying the message “Sorry. There is no one in the world suitable for you. Thanks for all the time you spent answering our questionnaire, and good luck!”

However, I can safely reveal the mysteries of the solitary evening. One interesting evening sport is mattress wrestling. In the old days a mattress was just a stuffed bag upon which the tired body rested. Nowadays, a mattress is a sleeping project. It comes complete with turning instructions: January and July one side and April and October on the other.

The turning helps the mattress stay in good shape, and the turner too. However, trying to get a queen size orthopeadic mattress to change position can be likened to a wrestling match between two, very unequal opponents.

However, with a bit of levering and heaving, it is possible to get the weighty, uncooperative piece of bed furniture to eventually point in the right direction. And a good thirty minutes of the solitary evening is well used up.

ANTI-FASHION PARADE

When not working on the bed, it is possible to engage in a private, anti-fashion parade. This involves raiding the wardrobe for all those fashion mistakes that one has acquired over the years, usually while on holiday.

Then all you have to do is try the bits on in a number of combinations to see if there is any way they can succeed in making a decent outfit. The chances of successfully redeeming any of your fashion disasters are slim, but the chances of collapsing into gales of laughter as you “admire” yourself in the mirror are high – and if they never enjoy any life outside the closet at least they will be worth their weight in amusement. And another hour of the solitary evening is gone!

If you are not afraid of talking to yourself, pretending to be a reality TV chef is an option. If you are really serious about it you can harness the smartphone to a tripod and tape your mini cookery movie.

Food can be much more fun when you adopt the flourishing gestures of the TV cook during its preparation: the dramatic chopping, the geometric pouring of oils, sensuous tasting and lip-smacking, and, above all, the continuous chatter. More reasons to laugh if you actually dare to try it out. Another hour used up.

Now you are probably a little tired, so a soothing activity like sorting stuff will do. The average home is chock-full of things that need to be organised, whether spoons, stockings, stocks or seasoning. So go on empty the contents of that messy drawer onto the carpet and start sorting. At least it will remind you why, decades ago, you learned those basic skills: the alphabet, counting, and arranging things into their relative sizes.

At last your parent’s investment in putting you through kindergarten will start to pay. Your house will also be much neater and bedtime will be closer still. And you have not spent even a moment on Facebook or Twitter!

Now it is time to wind down. Music is a good choice, whether it is the do-it-yourself kind or the playlist type. As Shakespeare wrote, “If music be the food of love, play on.” Music and loneliness are mutually exclusive.

The good thing is that alone in the house, no one minds if you sing out of tune, dance offbeat, or mix classical music, sixties pop and Isaac Hayes’ crooning on the same playlist. If all else fails you can turn from the score and direct the Anglepoise lamp onto the wall and spend your last few waking minutes designing shadow puppets!

Get a life this Saturday!

Raila POSTPONES ‘Occupy IEBC Protests’ UNTILL after BURIAL of Lucy Kibaki

Cord leaders have postponed their ‘occupy IEBC’ protests to May 9 in honour of former First Lady Lucy Kibaki who died on Tuesday.

Mama Lucy died at a London hospital following a month-long ailment. Her body will arrive on Sunday, and three days of national mourning marked.

Dennis Onyango, Cord leader Raila Odinga’s spokesman, said the protests were postponed for the mourning. He called on Cord supporters to join other Kenyans in honouring Mama Lucy.

“Thereafter the protest will be held every Monday as had been announced earlier,” he said on Friday.

The opposition had vowed to stage protests every Monday at IEBC offices until their demands to have the commission reconstituted are met.

Raila said they will carry on with their agenda to have the electoral body disbanded, despite being dispersed by police using teargas on Monday.

“We will not stop, the battle with go on, IEBC must be reconstituted,” he said adding the commission is “irredeemably tainted with scandals”.

He spoke at the Cord secretariat at Capitol Hill in Nairobi during a press conference attended co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper leader) and Moses Wetan’gula (Bungoma Senator).

PRINCESS OF HUMILITY REKINDLES SHEM BEVERTON’S HOPE IN HUMANITY

“Jeez! I look like Barack Obama,” I whispered to myself, as I regarded myself in the rusty bathroom mirror, goofily futzing with my crimson-red necktie– my mind bursting with odd bits of poetry and sentimental rhymes. Unlike Barrack Obama, I was a hopeless romantic; an emotionally-shipwrecked idiot suffering from the “Njoki Chege complex”; an evil psychological phenomenon where a man can’t reconcile himself to the fact that the woman he loves can’t love him back.

Today was a new day; a day to close a horrid chapter of heartbreak and open a new one full of hope and yearning. A new chapter away from the agonizing memories of how the self-regarding drama queen, Njoki Chege, savaged and butchered my weekend by condescendingly rejecting my romantic overtures, leaving me with a deeply wounded and scarred soul, unable to divine what wrong I had committed to deserve such barbarism. The devil had planted a bomb under my romantic life, lit the fuse and gleefully watched the shrapnel fly.

I know understood the pain of Prince Charles after the murder of his granduncle when he said, “It had seemed as if the foundations of all that we held dear in life had been torn apart irreparably.” It was not the statement of a politician, but of a wounded man.

All that was behind me now. I was now readying myself for a date with the most beautiful lady in this side of the Sahara. A true portrait of African beauty. A soft-spoken angel with a heart of emerald and nerves of steel. A tangible testament to God’s creative prowess. You sit next to her; her beauty explodes in your face. Whoa! The English Language is hopelessly inadequate to describe her. We possess an odd telepathy; the ability to know what the other is thinking.

Lake Victoria has a special place in my heart because a blisteringly beautiful mermaid hails from there. I remember the last time I saw her as we lazily strolled the paved paths of Moi University, side by side, amongst the whistling pine trees. The lukewarm sun struck her dark skin, giving it a lovely obsidian rock glow. Humility lurked in her milky eyes. My heart wrestled with the temptation of telling her what Ronald Reagan told Nancy after trouncing Jimmy Carter in an impossible election: “I have never loved you more!” It was a scene out of Jupiter

And then her call came, rendering every nerve in my being afire. My misfiring brain slid into momentary paralysis in protest of my body’s reluctance to execute its impulses. “Are you coming,” she queried with the eloquence of Queen Elizabeth and award winning actress Kerry Washington combined.

WHY IEBC Must be DISBANDED and a better impartial commission set up before 2017

By Salim Lone

The charged IEBC debate: George Gitau and I are not always in agreement, but I am sharing his very calm and eminently sensible comment from my wall on the very charged and angry debate, and how to move forward on this very destabilizing crisis that could easily get out of hand.. Please share further.

“Jubilee pushing its luck too much? There comes a time when something has to give. This the law of nature. What has been said about the IEBC makes it untenable for the electoral body to continue operating as constituted.
“The will of the people which is the IEBC’s raison d’etre must be respected to avoid ugly outcomes as we approach the general election. The Church, the law society and the opposition have expressed concern about the goings on at the Electoral body housed at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi. Something has to give in order for the country to hold coming elections in an environment of fairness.

“The names of the members of this commission are not cast in stone. The people have spoken and it’s time Parliament replaced these commissioners whatever it takes. What would it take to send Hassan and his team home ?”

REVEALED: Under pressure IEBC bosses Set to QUIT paving way for FRESH and IMPARTIAL Commissioners

By Alex Olick for the Star

The embattled top brass of the electoral agency are considering quitting as relentless pressure from the opposition and numerous non-state institutions reaches a crescendo
The Star has established that four of nine IEBC members have privately agreed to hang up their boots — on condition they are fully paid for their six-year term, including gratuity. The others are uncertain.

The details emerged just a day after opposition chiefs led by Raila Odinga announced a series of countrywide protests and sit-ins against the agency, in another push to send home the commissioners.

Cord and others say the IEBC is biased in favour of Jubilee, participated in election-rigging, is likely to do so again and cannot conduct a free and fair poll on August 8 next year. Cord says the IEBC and Jubilee colluded to sink its Okoa Kenya referendum bid.

The Law Society of Kenya, the human rights commission, labour unions, the National Council of Churches and numerous political figures want a new electoral agency.

The Star has learnt the commissioners want consensus from both Jubilee and Cord that they should vacate office.

“There is a feeling among them [commissioners] that they need to go. But of course they want it to be an understanding between both Jubilee and Cord,” a senior IEBC insider told the Star, adding they are very keen on their packages.

According to this source, the IEBC also do not want to be seen to be throwing in the towel, succumbing to pressure from Cord.

There has been speculation Jubilee had offered the team Sh25 million each to go home.

The commissioners reportedly said no at that time.

The term for the current IEBC bosses expires in November next year, meaning commissioners have 18 more months to draw salaries and allowances.

This means that sending home, compensating and replacing commissioners will consume will an enormous amount of taxpayers’ money.

In addition to chairman Isaak assan, the commissioners are Lillian Mahiri-Zaja (vice chair), Albert Bwire, Kule Godana, Yusuf Nzibo, Abdullahi Sharawe, Thomas Letangule, Muthoni Wangai and Mohamed Alawi.

The Law Society of Kenya says Hassan should voluntarily step down, citing a corruption probe against him. It says removal of commissions must follow procedure set forth in the constitution.

“Given that the general elections are 16 months away, this situation is now a threat to democracy and requires the most urgent action,” LSK President Isaac Okero warned on Wednesday. “The IEBC chairman must voluntarily step down as corruption investigations remain pending…It is imperative that the IEBC be reconstituted.”

In public, however, the IEBC bosses have maintained they will not resign, despite an onslaught from key electoral players.

“If at the sight of trouble we ran away, we are going to destroy the legacy and the history of this commission. So we owe it to the future of the commission and the country to stay strong against those who are attacking us,” Hassan said late last month.

Apart from Cord and LSK, a host of institutions have warned IEBC could sink the country if allowed to conduct the 2017 polls.

These include the state-funded Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, the Central Organisation of Trade Unions and the National Council of Churches of Kenya.

Five presidential contenders in the last election have also declared the IEBC must go.

Raila, Musalia Mudavadi, Peter Kenneth, Martha Karua and Prof James Ole Kiyiapi are among former contenders who want the agency reconstituted.

Kanu chairman Gideon Moi and ex-Council of Governors Chairman Isaac Rutto say they have no faith in the agency.

“There is only one solution to the IEBC dilemma: negotiate, negotiate and negotiate!” Prof Kiyapi recommended.

Even President Uhuru Kenyatta’s political lieutenants are divided over the future of the IEBC.

While criticising Cord’s “protest mode” of removing the commissioners by storming offices and staging sit-ins, Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando said the IEBC must be reconstituted.

However, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said that as a coalition, Jubilee is keen on assisting IEBC to deliver a credible election.

“The Kreigler Commission recommended a commission be in place two years to the election. We are already short of the two years,” he said.

However, KNCHR has warned that only three out of 10 Kenyans have confidence the IEBC will carry out credible elections.

Late last year, an Ipsos poll indicated that 58 per cent of respondents want the IEBC commissioners replaced.

“Kenya cannot afford another wave of violence or mere police intervention to restrain a disgruntled citizenry from systemic electoral malfunctions,” said NCCK general secretary Canon Peter Karanja.

Addressing a press conference in Nairobi on Tuesday, Raila and co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula said they will occupy all IEBC offices in major towns across the country on Tuesday next week.

“Subsequently, we shall assemble at the [IEBC Headquarters] Anniversary Towers every Monday,” Raila said.

Cord demos are planned for Mombasa, Garissa, Machakos, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kakamega and Kisii. Other towns are Narok, Lodwar, Meru, Isiolo, Nyeri and Kitale.

They reiterated their assertion that Jubilee did not win the 2013 polls fair and square and accused electoral agency of aiding the fraud. Uhuru won with 50.05 per cent of the vote in 2013.

“It is now an incontrovertible fact that Jubilee did not win the presidential elections in 2013 but were declared victorious through a conspiracy hatched by IEBC, elements in the Supreme Court and the security agencies,” Wetang’ula said.

But should the IEBC commissioners quit, the hardest task will be how to put together a new team.

The Cord brigade insists the new electoral team should be chosen by the political parties, in order of their numerical strength in Parliament.

If that were to happen, TNA, URP, ODM, Wiper, UDF, Ford Kenya and New Ford Kenya would each nominate a candidate.

The Cord proposal is similar to the 1997 election’s Inter-Party Parliamentary Group pact, a part of minimum reforms whereby Kanu, DP, Ford Kenya, Ford Asili and Safina each nominated a candidate for the now-defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya.

“The moment you introduce representatives of political parties as commissioners of IEBC, then you will cause a lot of problems to that commission,” warns IEBC commissioner Thomas Letangule, giving the example of Zanzibar.

Mombasa Youth CONDEMN Jubilee regime for TEAR-GASSING Opposition leaders

EARGAS ON CORD WAS UNCALLED FOR

To the members of the fourth estate (Media) and the entire nation, We are here today as Mombasa Youths caucus not only voice our opinion but also join fellow patriotic Kenyans in condemning police brutality as witnessed on Monday and also unequivocally call for a credible electoral body.

Fellow Kenyans we the Mombasa Youths are not amused by the manner in which the CORD Leader Hon.Raila Odinga and the entire CORD brigade were treated by police on their match to IEBC offices on Monday.

Ruthless police brutality has no place in Kenya today and all attempts to take us back to the dark days of dictatorship must be met by strong opposition possible. We join H.E Ali Hassan Joho and other Kenyans who respect the constitution in condemning the senseless and barbaric teargassing of CORD leaders by the police.

Hon Raila Odinga is a respected Prime Minister of this country, he has paid the price for the freedom and democracy we enjoy today, it is dispeakable to see the police and by extension the Jubilee government spray teargas on such a hero who have relentlessly fought for the betterment of this country. We demand that the Prime minister be accorded utmost respect and be treated with decorum. The police brutal action was not only a threat to security of our national leaders but also peaceful Kenyans who exercised their right to picket as enshrined in our constitution.

Peaceful demonstration has a place in article 37 of our constitution.Article 37 gives us the right to demonstrate and picket. Article 38 (1)C gives us the right to campaign for a cause. CORD is campaigning for a cause:TO REMOVE IEBC COMMISSIONERS. It follows without argument that in exercise of sovereign power directly and in accordance with articles 37 and 38 of the constitution, a cause for the removal of iebc is being agitated.

Let the people who are behind this cowardly act be reminded that those who impede the use of constitutional and democratic means make revolution inevitable. We also want to remind the police that it is their duty to keep any constitutional demonstration peaceful but not cause chaos by unnecessarily throwing teargas as witnessed on Monday. It also begs the question as to what kind of leadership do we have in place that has no respect for the law and heroes of our great nation? Where are we headed? Raila Odinga suffered a lot for this country to enjoy the democratic space it has today and that cannot be crushed by selfish regime.

Polls are showing that 70% the population have no confidence in IEBC; NCCK has called for its disbandment. 2017 is fast approaching and we cannot bury our heads in deep sands to wait for a parliamentary process that will be brought down by Jubilee sycophants and a disappointing speaker. There are more than enough calls to have the body reconstituted before we go to the next polls.

IEBC is not a neutral referee; we guess Jubilee is part of the 30% that is either neutral or ignorant. We joins Kenyans of goodwill in calling for disbandment, restructure and re constitution of IEBC, We cannot and will not go to an election with IEBC as currently constituted. The current IEBC must be disbanded; it has no moral authority to stay in office anymore.

Under the leadership of ODM Deputy party leader H.E Hassan Joho and the people of Mombasa we will not sit back and watch as the Jubilee tyrants take us back to the dark days, we therefore call upon all Mombasa residents to join the March to IEBC regional offices. Article 1 of the constitution gives transfer the sovereign power to the people, the tyranny of numbers have shown in many occasion tried to take us back in the dark days, we witnessed this during controversial security bill , the tyrants cannot be entrusted with our electoral reforms.

We have no option but to use the peoples power as enshrined in the constitution to protect the integrity of electoral system and democracy. We will replicate sit in at IEBC offices until such a time that the current inept and bias electoral body is sent home. Disbandment of IEBC is now not negotiable. IEBC must go home.

Breaking: (Photos) Holidaying Children outnumber adults at the Uhuru rally in Nyamira

Uhuru’s rallies in Nyamira were filled with children. It is reported that the Jubilee government strategically fixed the date of their Gusiiland tour at a time when schools are closed, so as to get the presence of holidaying children since Gusii belongs to CORD.

Naturally, children love idling in such meetings and they attend in large numbers, albeit uninvited. Below are photos of how children flocked the meeting venues.

ODM’s Hon Makamu ARRESTED one hour after STATEHOUSE siren Dennis Itumbi Called for his Prosecution

Kisumu based opposition activists has been arrested barely an hour after Statehouse official Dennis Itumbi called for his prosecution.

Itumbi who is President Uhuru’s man on Facebook and other social media called for the arrest and prosecution of Makamu following his widely circulated video in which he condemns Jubilee regime for teargassing of CORD leader Raila Odinga on Monday during the Occupy IEBC protests.

ODM lead blogger Lee Makwiny has condemned the arrest of Makamu and termed it a mistake that will not serve Jubilee’s interests, waring it may backfire to a point of propelling Makamu into mainstream politics where Uhuru will not be able to cage him.

Raila Odinga was detained for 9 years. The arrest of Makamu Wa Kisumu will simply initiate him into politics.
What he said is true. ICC is nothing. Hague is nothing. Iebc must go home. If they don’t, Kenya will go to the dogs. And as my friend Eliud Owalo always say, anybody planning to steal the elections must also start preparing how to handle the aftermath since it will be real aftermath.

Another ODM online warrior wondered where Itumbi gets powers to summon Police to order them who to arrest;>>

Denis Itumbi says Makamu should be Arrested, True to his words ‪#‎Makamu‬ gets arrested.
His Mistake is Criticizing Jubilee for using excessive force while denying CORD their right to ‪#‎OccupyIEBC‬. ‪#‎FreeMakamu‬
We have reached a point where Junior people like Itumbi can order Police to arrest those who oppose how they do things.
‪#‎IEBC‬ must be disbanded.

Uhuru to spend Sh400m in GUSIILAND after Giving his ‘own’ Kirinyaga Sh40b for various projects

President Uhuru Kenyatta will spend less than a half a billion shillings in the entire Gusiiland just days after he gave Kirinyaga County a staggering 40 billion shillings for various projects.

The President who landed in Nyamira today morning opened the famous Sh7.4m Nyamira gate and elevated the facility’s status.

Just recently, the President hosted 10,000 Upoliticians from Ukambani and gave them food and fare. Critics have however questioned President Kenyatta’s minimal expenditure compared to what he spends in Central Province.

Kisii and Nyamira Counties are opposition’s strongholds and the government is trying to hoodwink the Kisii community with cosmetic projects so that they can abandon Raila and start following Uhuru Kenyatta.

Law Society of Kenya DEMANDS IEBC Chairman Isaac Hassan RESIGN to allow Investigations

By Isaac Okero

In order to effectively discharge its mandate as an impartial and efficient facilitator of the election process the IEBC is an institution that must have the confidence of the public. It has a serious credibility issue with complaints from all quarters of Kenyan society.

Its Chairman Isaak Hassan is the subject of an investigation by the EACC into the so called Chickengate affair but remains in office. Critical reform recommendations made by the LSK in its report on the election process have not been acted on.
Given that the general elections are 16 months away this situation is now a threat to democracy and requires the most urgent action.

The IEBC chairman must voluntarily step down as corruption investigations remain pending. Cabinet secretaries before him have done so. There should be no different standard applied. It is imperative that the IEBC be reconstituted. The process for the removal of commissioners must accord with the law and the constitution.

Citizens rights to protest, picket and demonstrate are constitutional under Article 37 provided they are peaceable and unarmed. Any deviation from these prerequisites must be condemned. Teargas and riot police placed in anticipation of citizens’ protests does not set the stage for the exercise of Article 37 rights. The use of teargas against peaceful unarmed protestors is reprehensible, provocative and represents intolerance by the government that is not a reflection of the direction we want our country to take.

We must remember that in our recent past genuine dialogue between the leadership is what has advanced the country beyond impasse. Refusing to talk to and listen to each other is not helping the country. We must talk to each other.

The Author is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and President, Law Society of Kenya.

Kenya Relegated to a Regional JOKE, Lost Oil Pipeline to Tanzania and Sudan Peace deal to Ethiopia

When IGAD then under the Chairmanship of President Uhuru Kenyatta attempted to dictate to Dr. Riek Machar the terms for Sudan Peace Agreement, adding a rider that IGAD and EAC will not recognize ‘unconstitutional means’ to capturing power, Dr. Riek Machar went back and intensified his onslaught on President Kiir.

The peace in Sudan failed then. And it failed 10 more times. IGAD pulled out of it. EAC pulled out of it. Dr. Machar removed both Kenya and Uganda as partners for peace. It took Dar-es-salaam to first ‘reconcile’ SPLM/SPLA-IO and the SPLM/SPLA government in Juba.

Then Dr. Machar started building an international coalition to understand, first and foremost, their own stakes in South Sudan.Soon China and America knew the war had taken a geopolitical character. The big boys, using UN, were now fully involved, with something to win or lose.

Ethiopia realized the folly of IGAD and took a neutral position, supporting both SPLA (Kirr) and SPLA-IO (Machar) in equal measure. It also hosted Machar and his men, in their thousands.

Today, as the two Sudanese Leaders signed a new agreement to form a transitional government of national unity and start the process for full stability, Kenya’s absence in Juba spoke volumes of the paper tiger we’ve become.

Conflicts where both sides can access guns, including hand propelled grenades, cannot be resolved in the image and likeness of Kenya’s 2008 National Accord. The gun is a just equalizer.
Peace to South Sudan.

WHY I MOURN Former First Lady Mama Lucy Kibaki, she was MUCH BETTER than Margret Kenyatta

By Seth O
Former First Lady Mama Lucy Kibaki may be hated for so many things, many that perhaps were out of her individual control but one thing the country, or myself – as someone who observe keenly some of these things – give her credit for is how she brought some sense of discipline among the Kikuyu elite primarily, and other elites who surrounded former President Mwai Kibaki.

Mama Lucy is said to have been very ‘sensitive’ to allegations of corruption, especially where those close to President Kibaki had been mentioned. This way, she ensured once you dipped your hands in the public cookie jar, you never (ever) again use the grounds of state house to give yourself a veneer of respectability.

And once Mama Lucy had turned her gaze toward you, you were as good as done.

History may not loudly capture these things but the fall of Chris Murungaru, David Mwiraria, Matere Keriri and many other senior ministers and government officials like former CID man Joseph Kamau during Kibaki era were mostly attributed to her.

This, to me, is one of the favourable virtues the deceased first lady should be remembered for.

Her style of managing the President is starkly different from the current first lady, who appears to see nothing, hear nothing and say nothing of the many corruption scandals that are consuming her husband because of his circle of friends. With Mam Lucy, the big vegetables knew they were fallible.

What we now know is that President Uhuru’s State House is a free for all cesspit. It houses some of the worst characters in this city, people like Munyori Buku and Eric Ng’eno who can print anything, however unpalatable and unpresidential, in the false sense of worth and belief that they are doing it ‘for the president’. Granted, there were praise singers and court-jesters around Mwai Kibaki, but most of such characters operated from the ghostly corridors of Harambee House, not state house, not our country’s foremost public house.

I speak a lot to, and, with many people in CORD and ODM who were part of the last Grand Coalition Government, and indeed the earlier LDP-NAK government and many agree President Mwai Kibaki was a better man of himself in the early hours of the morning when he had just left the company of his immediate family, Lucy being the rock.

Power corrupts. Tell me any woman who was near power who never nearly lost her head. I read many books in politics, history and even fiction. Of the many women characters, I am yet to find as many. Exposed to power, women lose their heads. Anne Waiguru.

Though the current first lady has cut for herself a public persona of a president’s spouse more concerned, on her own, with the immediate challenges facing the country and has neglected the traditional role of a first lady – that of the last line of defence on most, if not all public issues where peoples’ interests, lives, opportunities, hopes and fears come up against the powerful interests of cartels, capitalist vultures, merchants, middlemen, profiteers etc – history reserves for her a hotter place.
Kenya is worse off because Margaret Kenyatta is playing holier than thou. Why lie?

Ever wondered why the likes of Chris Kirubi, with his many yellow ideas about success and billions never cut it as a critical power keg under Kibaki? Perhaps, Kibaki had no time for intellectual zombies. Perhaps, Mama Lucy couldn’t allow it.

As Kenyans speculate and discuss Mama Lucy, personally, I feel grateful she was the wife of President Kibaki at that point in time. Some of us came of age in the last 10 years. Kibaki’s first term found us just about to finish primary school and second term just about to finish high school. We lived in a country that’s no more. We came of age under a President who was never petty and who never surrounded himself with petty elites. It would have been unimaginable to find Kibaki jailing Alan Wadi. He didn’t have time for that, because people around him didn’t have time for that. The greatest tragedy that can befell a nation is to elect a petty president, or, him who isn’t petty, but has all around him very petty people. People who have no exceptions.

As I thought about Kibaki Presidency, and how we took some of the freedoms and rights secured during his time for granted, I found myself thinking favourably of Mama Lucy. If she made some terrible mistake, at least we know she was true, she was real; she wasn’t feckless and definitely she was not all public relations!
My random thoughts.

Why Kenyatta is world’s WEAKEST and WICKED President

By Comrade Albert Nyakundi Amenya – The Banana Peddler

Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill once said that “The price of greatness is responsibility” Now I understand why there is no shortcut to maturity.

Honestly, I have a lot of respect for leaders who respect other leaders. Nevertheless, whoever is under the illusion that there is any quality of leadership exuding from President Uhuru Kenyatta must reexamine his illusion.

As a matter of fact, I determinedly profess here that President Kenyatta is not only the weakest, but also one of the wicked Presidents in the world since the departure of Adolf Hitler. The tear-gassing of CORD principals yesterday at the Anniversary Towers signposts how Uhuru’s integrity is shockingly unmet. Peradventure, there is no change without a conflict but elders must be respected.

By incautiously incapacitating Raila Odinga using teargas, the President confirmed that he lacks respect for his elders cum freedom fighters. Is this not the same president who tear-gassed primary school munchkins when they constitutionally remonstrated over their grabbed playground?

Constitutionally, PM Raila has an untenably inalienable right to his political future. Thus, he has a right to demand for a change of referee, if he has the best reasons, coupled by unassailable evidence that the referee is working for his opponent.

In Premier League, when Manchester United is about to take on the MIGHTIEST team in world ARSENAL FC, they usually question the integrity and fairness of officiators. But because it is their right to do so, the referee is always changed to their convenience to avoid pesky post match complaints and appeals.

The incomprehensible abomination done against the Rt. Hon Raila Odinga is not only inconsolable, but also condemnable by all means. In fact, the incongruity encompassed in the process of tear-gassing the leaders will forever remain indelible in the people’s minds.

Sincerely, even if Uhuru wanted to run counter to CORD’s approach towards disbanding IEBC, were there no other channels rather than that of unleashing the entire military higgledy-piggledy all over the city? I am edified that the Bill Of Rights as envisaged, is the backbone of our constitution. Where is that freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and that of peaceful demonstration?

I expected Uhuru to gallantly hold back his wrath no matter how deep he is in love with the controversial IEBC. Instead, he naively unleashed a contingent of crackpots on his senior – Yes, senior because some of the fruits President Kenyatta is enjoying, including the multi-party democracy, were paid for by Raila.
I expected this President to versatilely confab with CORD Principals and comradely demystify the IEBC debacle, only to realize we are living in a country where the rule of the jungle prevails, only the strong survives.

As far as integrity and leadership are concerned, I thought my President is an astutely versed egghead, only to realize that he is surrounded by likeminded Team-Mafisi, only thinking on how to develop their stomach infrastructures.

A Good Samaritan must tell the President that the atrocities he committed against Raila yesterday, one day he will deservedly get his comeuppance. Just like any doomsayer out there, I have an impregnable premonition that Uhuru’s imprudent acts will haunt him forever.

Just like Albert Einstein, I belong to Res ipsa loquitur school of thought. It is an open secret that President Kenyatta begrudges Raila’s rich history. Nonetheless, the fact remains that he owes the Prime Minister a huge debt of gratitude and apology.
This administration continually gives us the ugly side of leadership. From head to toe, nonchalance, bribery, nepotism and ethnicity clouds public activities.

Just name them: From the computer typing error, to the NYS scandal where Ksh2billion grew wings and flew with the help of former Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru. From the Ksh20billion El Nino funds, to the $1.4billion Eurobond proceeds where the partners in crime shared the loot and swept the crime under the carpet. Uhuru Kenyatta runs a deliberate porous system where his friends – those that helped him ascend to power – are on a looting competition, if not a looting spree.

This president does not care about the well-being of his people. All he cares about is his 2017reelection, the more reason why he jealously guards the treacherous IEBC. To him, it takes rocket science to fix quandaries like these.

As a leader of the nation, President Kenyatta has failed to convince Kenyans that he is serious with the fight against graft. Kenyatta’s body language neither radiates nor manifests this. To him, the phrase “leading by example” is a foreign language.

What sense does it make for the President to ‘reportedly’ get Ksh2.5m monthly salary while Statehouse spends Ksh8million a day, Ksh56million a week, Ksh224million a month and Ksh2688,000000billion a year on expenses? Isn’t this one of the primary reasons why he is fighting hard to retain IEBC?

Rather than tear-gassing school children, fellow leaders and other peaceful demonstrators, what has this President achieved so far to justify his being re-elected?
