Nakuru Senator Kihika “wrestle” governor Lee Kinyanjui on unspent billions

I have been in the forefront pushing for more resources to the counties. The main reason is because counties still have a lot to do to improve lives through the devolved functions. Then, boom, I learn that my County leads in returning unused billions to the treasury.

At Kshs. 3.9 billion, Nakuru County LEADS in the amounts of unspent funds that were returned to the treasury in the last financial year. When I think of how much that money would have gone to improve service delivery, it would be an understatement to say am disappointed.

We still have plenty of ECDE centers where parents still have to pool resources to pay the teachers. We still have unequipped and understaffed health facilities dotting our county. Imagine what 3.9 billion would have done to help these people?

Long distance treks to seek medical care would have been cut as dispensaries like Mununga in Naivasha’s Biashara ward, and Muguga in Nakuru East Ward which lie desolate; complete, but with no drugs, personnel or equipment would have been sorted. At 30 million each, 3.9 is enough to equip over 130 Healthy Centers.

The Kshs. 3.9b would have been a cure to the death traps that our drainages in Nakuru and Naivasha towns have become. Projects costing a mere Kshs. 5 million like the Kanorero Bridge in Elementaita ward continue lying unfinished and shoddily done. Tutaambia watu nini surely?

At Kshs. 10,000 per term, the returned Kshs. 3,900,000,000 would have paid school fees for over 30,000 boarding school students for the entire four years. Several markets like Nasher would have been constructed and finished to state of the art status.

Access roads to our farming regions would have gotten a facelift that would have seen our farmers get quick and smooth access to markets. At an average cost of 20 million per KM of urban roads, we would have done 195KM of tarmac roads with proper drainage. Can you imagine this amount is enough to complete 200 boreholes? That would take care of our water problems once and for all.

The possibilities are immense. The opportunities lost in returning the monies to the treasury are huge. Again, am embarrassed as a leader who has been pushing for more funds, and am disappointed with my Governor.

Breaking: DCI orders for arrest of Controversial talent manager Joe Mwangi

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a warrant of arrest for child star Wendy Waeni’s former manager.

Joseph Mwangi Nduta alias Joe is wanted by authorities in connection with forgery and issuing threats to the girl’s mother Magdalene Mbele.

Mwangi has been asked to report to the DCI offices in Nairobi.

Wendy Waeni is a Kenyan contortionist who has performed for audiences around the world and two African Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and Paul Kagame.

Her former manager came under pressure following allegations that he stole from the child and her mother.

During an interview on Citizen TV’s JKL show, Waeni alleged that she had not received a single penny for her performances over the past five years.

The manager however rubbished the allegations and accused her of ‘reading from a script.’

He further accused the mother of mismanaging funds they had received from her performance in Rwanda.

The mother rejected his claims saying Mwangi only gave her a little money from what he got from prominent individuals to help Waeni.

“During our trip to Rwanda, President Paul Kagame gave me Ksh.500,000 to support Wendy’s talent, I shared the money with Joe by giving him Ksh.200,000 but he still demanded for more,” she said.

Arrest, charge Senator Murkomen with incitement on Mau evictions

By Ngunjiri Wambugu via fb

Murkomen needs to stop trying to be sly. These questions he’s raising on the ground is what opposition does to incite the public against the government.

He’s also very slyly trying to incite this same public against the handshake by claiming the handshake is what’s pushing people out of Mau. How does a handshake between Uhuru and Raila affect moving people from illegal habitation of the Mau; or is he suggesting that if there was no handshake they would have joined Raila to fight against Uhuru to stop Mau evictions?

Murkomen should not be allowed to continue enjoying the benefits of being Senate Majority Leader whilst inciting the public against the same government he claims to serve. If he can’t ask these questions from within and leave with the answers he should stop pretending he’s in government and go agitate properly as Opposition.

Hon. Wetangula dumps Mudavadi, to field a FORD-Kenya candidate in Kibra

The much anticipated Kibra parliamentary race is becoming hotter and hotter as almost all major parties are now joining the race.

The Moses Wetang’ula-led Ford Kenya, the lion party has now joined the race.

Wetang’ula, the party’s leader on Friday disclosed that the party will be unveiling its candidate in Kibra by-election next week.

According to the Bungoma Senator, the party will consider a dynamic, young, professional, Kibra-born, grassroots operator who will carry on with the dynamic legacy left by Hon Ken Okoth.

Wetangula further disclosed that Ford Kenya is no stranger to the great people of Kibra.

He says Rt Hon Raila Odinga went to parliament for the first time in 1993 on Ford Kenya party.

So far, Raila’s ODM party, Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC party and President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee party are already in the race with ODM planning to hold its nominations on September 7.

Jubilee party has hence invited interested candidates to reapply for party tickets after it disowned its first list of nominees that had been presented to IEBC.
“This letter that is making rounds within social media outlets is FAKE. Please note that any communication regarding the Kibra Constituency by-election will be done through the official Party organ.” Jubilee said

Chelsea FC loan striker Mitchy Batchuayi to Napoli

The 25-year-old has not been seen on the pitch even once this season even after being told he will be offered a chance.

Instead, it has been Tammy Abraham who has been stealing the headlines and Olivier Giroud filling in as the second option. Prior to the start of the season, Frank Lampard gave assurances to all his players that everyone will be given a fair opportunity to prove themselves.

While Batshuayi missed most of the pre-season due to fitness issues, he did complete the full 90 minutes of a U23 game against Liverpool last week and scored two goals. He has expressed a desire to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge but it seems like Abraham’s good form will only block his ambitions furthermore.

Italian journalist, Dario Sarnataro, has claimed that the Blues are willing to let go of Batshuayi this season and even permanently. Chelsea are so eager to get him off their wage books that they are willing to pay part of his salary just to convince Napoli.

Batshuayi has netted the ball on 19 occasions for the Blues in 53 appearances. He could never really break into the team’s starting spot under three different managers now – Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri and Lampard.

There is no denying that the Belgian is talented, given the show he put on at Borussia Dortmund last year and the last six months he spent with Crystal Palace. The problem is he is far too good to be kept on as a third option and maybe not good enough to become an outright starter.

Hence, it is the wisest move for Chelsea to recuperate the money they spent on him.

How MPs are planning to kill Ekuro Aukot’s “Punguza mzigo” bill

Report by standard
Lawmakers have hatched a secret scheme to frustrate the Punguza Mizigo Bill that seeks to reduce their number from 416 to 147, The Standard can reveal. It has emerged that MPs are plotting to exploit a loophole in the Constitution by ‘sitting’ on the Bill should it get the backing of at least 24 county assemblies as required for it to be submitted to Parliament.

Article 257 of the Constitution that provides for the popular initiative path does not give timelines within which Parliament should introduce the Bill, handing lawmakers a lethal weapon against the initiative.

“If a county assembly approves the draft Bill within three months after the date it was submitted by the Commission, the speaker of the county assembly shall deliver a copy of the draft Bill jointly to the speakers of the two Houses of Parliament, with a certificate that the county assembly has approved it.

“If a draft Bill has been approved by a majority of the county assemblies, it shall be introduced in Parliament without delay,” reads the Article. Several MPs disclosed that they may decide to exploit the loophole in a protest against the Ekuru Aukot-led Thirdway Alliance for allegedly not engaging stakeholders in coming up with the Bill.

Political pressure The Punguza Mizigo Bill, which also proposes a single seven-year presidential term and installs Senate as the upper house, however, was backed by 1.2 million voters — more than the 1 million needed for the electoral commission to submit the draft Bill to county assemblies.
At the heart of the plot is a bid by MPs to protect President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga’s Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which is expected to come up with a Bill for a referendum.

Raila has expressly asked his supporters to ignore the Punguza Mizigo Bill, and yesterday the Siaya county assembly rejected it after members approved a Justice Committee report that recommended its rejection (see separate story). Jubilee, through Secretary General Raphael Tuju, has said the ruling party was for the BBI, giving the strongest indication that the two main parties may use their numerical strengths in both county assemblies and Parliament to frustrate the passage of the Bill.

Lawyer Nzamba Kitonga – who chaired the committee of experts that wrote the 2010 Constitution – yesterday said the drafters of the law did not provide specific timelines because “it was envisaged that Parliament at some point will be on recess”. Mr Nzamba, however, said MPs are expected to give such a Bill priority and introduce it as soon as practically possible. Constitutional lawyer Bobi Mkangi, who was also a member of the committee, concurred that Parliament can exploit the loophole to frustrate the Bill.

ODM is not afraid of Eliud Owalo, will beat him pants down

Philip Nyamai via fb

You read Eliud Owalo’s manifesto and you realize that this man does not stand for anything, understands so little about the issues affecting the People of Kibra and is yet to understand the role of a member of Parliament.

The NG-CDF Amendment Act 2016 requires that a member of Parliament cannot actualize his or her manifesto without consultation with wananchi through periodic ward level open forums(fora). The same NG-CDF Act requires that the projects eligible for funding are only those that are falling within the functions of the National Government which are majorly touching on education, security, sports, environment sectors and other national government residual functions. So telling Kiberians that you want to build two ultra-modern stadia; building Maternity Hospital and provision of Periodic Mobile Clinics for selected diseases; Purchasing of a Fire Fighting Vehicle for each of the 5 Wards in Kibra is like stepping on the mandate of county government which I know Governor Sonko will not take politely.

Owalo is busy disguising himself as god for Kiberians since he is promising them to be their “Shield and Defender”. The people of Kibra does not need that, they need aforementioned developments as stipulated in the NG-CDF amendment Act 2016.

By the way Owalo is not interested in winning Kibra MP seat, his mission is to advance his personal vendetta with the one he ensured he looted his campaign resources in 2013 and later abused using unprintable words in 2017 after losing in the party primaries. At the same time, he is in business to make monies from yule jamaa.

Eliud Owalo is very corrupt, squandered CORD’s money in 2013

By Philip Nyamai via fb

Owalo believes Kibra has not been growing for the past 53yrs. In his mind, Kibra people are still using flying toilets, no sanitation at all, no any good housing, no recreational facilities, and everyone living there earns as low as Sh150 a day. In his myopic reasoning he would change Kibra from being slum immediately after winning and also stop the rich from getting richer. You’ll agree with me that there are wealthier people living in Kibra compared to this guy who stole CORD’s campaign resources in 2013.

According to Owalo, Kibra is wallowing in abject poverty and diseases with the residents living in despicable conditions of abject poverty due to corruption that goes upto 1trillion. This figure too is wrong. He needs to research well. That aside, if Owalo was saying this statement while vying on a wiper ticket I would say, well and good. Owalo cannot talk about corruption yet he is vying on an ANC ticket and we all know where Musalia Mudavadi’s resources came from or you think Golden Berg was pocket change?

He is talking about corruption and CORD’s 2013 agents are yet to be paid to date, where did he take their monies? Owalo has been a sellout since his days in campus, ask his schoolmates.

To Owalo what the people of Kibra need is a welfare bus to transport dead bodies home, and other buses to take fans of Gor Kogalo to wherever Gor will be playing that day. Is he vying to be Gor Mahia chairman? Kibra constituency gets Sh120+ million every financial year as NG-CDF but what Owalo is prioritizing on is four buses at the expense of what the NG-CDF amendment Act 2016 requires. To him the people of Kibra only needs to die and their bodies ferried home or be Gor Mahia fans and taken to the stadium to go watch football.

This mentality of thinking what the people need before engaging them is what will ruin the Owalos of this world. Voters no longer need defenders, they need what will put food on their tables, have their young ones study or acquire relevant skills and generally improve everyone’s life by empowering them. There is a working system in Kibra that has elaborate plan on Sanitation, housing, lighting, security, education, empowering people, infrastructure, and plans for other social amenities, all one needs to do is to identify with that system and advanced it.

Mudavadi is Kenya’s opposition leader, will beat Raila in Kibra- ANC secretary gen. Muluka

On the November Kibra parliamentary by-election, Muluka said ANC is prepared to snatch the seat from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). The seat fell vacant following the death of area MP Ken Okoth last month.

“The only opposition leader now is Musalia. Raila and Kalonzo are political opportunists who have gone to ‘sleep’ with Government, claiming that they are feeling cold being in the opposition. We will demonstrate this when we beat Raila in Kibra,” Muluka said.

“ANC is ready to vanquish Raila and ODM in Kibra. This is just the beginning of an all-out war we have declared against Raila and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

ANC unveiled former Raila Odinga’s aide Eliud Owalo as its Kibra candidate.

Muluka also faulted Uhuru for declaring that the country would no longer commemorate the death of Kenya’s founding President Jomo Kenyatta following last week’s 41-year anniversary. Uhuru said the commemoration would from next year be a family affair.
He also urged Uhuru to do more in the fight against corruption.

“We want to see the corrupt jailed and the money they stole recovered. We have seen people being arrested, buildings on riparian land demolished but no convictions. If Uhuru is afraid of taking the fight against corruption a step further, he should resign and let Mudavadi take over the reins and halt the spiralling public debt.”

10 governors on KRA radar over alleged tax evasion

At least 10 governors are among 600 individuals being sought after for alleged tax fraud, which is estimated to have deprived the government of about Ksh250 billion in revenue.

The paper further stated that KRA had written a demand letter to the affected counties, asking for immediate payment of accrued taxes, failure to which they will be prosecuted.

Some of the county chiefs face personal tax bills for owning businesses generating millions of shillings annually, yet they regularly file nil returns.

The demand letter further summoned the targeted individuals to explain how and why they failed to pay taxes.

Others have failed to file tax returns as required by law, while a few were said to be living beyond their means.

The taxman is claimed to have also established a special desk at its Upper Hill offices to grill the targeted persons.

A total of 17 county governments and assemblies owe taxes amounting to Ksh5.6 billion.

This includes Ksh2.3 billion Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax, Ksh1.2 billion withholding tax and Ksh2 billion in other forms.

KRA Commissioner for Domestic Taxes, Elizabeth Meyo, warned that governors face prosecution if they fail to comply with the agency’s demands.

ANC boss Mudavadi vows to fight handshake team’s BBI report

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has vowed to shoot down the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

This is according to ANC Secretary-General Barrack Muluka, who spoke during an interview on KTN News last night where he said that the team is going nowhere with the report.

Muluka said that they had decided not to attend the meetings of the BBI team because they had no legal backing at all.

He noted that the team was formed after President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga decided to bury their differences but other political parties were not consulted before the formation of the same.

Muluka affirmed that his boss is not ready to support something that will only favour two individuals because it only promotes their interests in the long run.

“Mudavadi will team up with other opponents to defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga should the BBI lead to a referendum,” said Mr Muluka, as quoted by Standard.

He further noted that ANC never made any presentations in regard to the matter, adding that it will not allow its members and the rest of the nation to be misled in the end.

“My party leader Mudavadi and the party itself did not make any presentations to the Building Bridges Initiative, therefore, we will go flat out to shoot down any referendum if it is recommended,” he added.

7 arrested for terming census exercise as satanic

Seven Tharaka Nithi residents have been arrested for boycotting the census exercise claiming it is satanic.

The seven are believed to be members of Kabonokia Sect. They were arrested on Wednesday Night at Gatue in Tharaka Nithi for refusing to give information to authorized enumerators collecting statistical information.

According to them, the process is Satanic and that they’ll be counted in Heaven.

Their arrest has been confirmed by the office of the Director of Criminal Investigation through a tweet.
Arrests, misinformation, sale of alcohol during census nights despite CS Matiangi’s order and rape are some of the issues that have clouded the census exercise.

This comes as the government insists that the census dates will not be extended. Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho on Monday said that the seven days set aside by the government are enough to have every one enumerated.

“The exercise will end on August 31, there will be no extension because we expect that all Kenyans will have been counted,” said the PS during a press conference.

And to ensure that everyone is counted, particularly in major cities such as Nairobi, Kisumu, Kiambu, Eldoret, Kakamega, Machakos, Mombasa, and Thika the exercise will be carried out daily from 6 am to 10 pm.

Exposed: Co-operative Bank CEO in romantic relationship with married senior employee

The Co-operative bank boss is alleged to have transferred his lover who was at the time working as one of senior managers at the bank’s branch located in the Mt Kenya region to the head office so that they could be close to each other.

That the man is an accomplished technocrat is a cinch. His credentials have earned him a seat among the most well paid, respected and influential CEOs. But the catch however is that the woman that has him head over heels is the wife of a former Deputy Governor in the Mt Kenya Region.

The husband of the lady is reportedly broke and has no say over his wife’s extra-marital cum extra-curricular engagements. The two – the Coop boss and his lover- who is a junior employee are touted to have known each other for the longest time possible. If this is love, then it must be a true love for it brew for decades.

Governor Wairia in deep “wars” with water PS over usage of Ndakaini dam water

Murang’a Governor, Mwangi wa Iria, on Wednesday, threatened to file a suit against Water Principal Secretary, Irungu Wairagu, after accusing him of locking him out of a crucial project.

While addressing members of the fourth estate, the governor argued that his people were being subjected to drinking dirty water, yet the PS blocked them from using clean water from Ndakaini Dam.

He further lamented that it was unfair for Nairobi residents to get access to the clean water, while his people were locked out despite a declaration by President Uhuru Kenyatta, that the water should benefit all Kenyans.

The governor, therefore, outlined three issues that he will be seeking from the PS through the court.

“I am telling him clearly that he will face me in court. I want him to tell me why he has blocked Murang’a people from benefiting from Ndakaini.

“Number two, why he has blocked our people from benefiting from revenue of water coming from Ndakaini and three, why he thinks we are second rate citizens, that have to drink saline water,” posed the county boss.

Ndakaini has, in the past, made headlines after eliciting tough debate around iteslf, pitting wa Iria against Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko.

The war gravitated around which county truly owned the dam, but Uhuru shut them down after explaining that it was a project for all Kenyans collectively.

“I feared Thiery Henry”, Ex-Chelsea player John Terry

Former Chelsea defender and club captain John Terry has named Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as the toughest opponent he ever faced. John Terry faced Henry during his prime and admitted that keeping the Frenchman silent was one of the hardest jobs during his long Chelsea career.

Henry played for Arsenal between 1999-2007 and became the club’s record goalscorer with 227 goals.

Big win for Wangusi as court stops Communications Authority of Kenya from appointing his successor

Outgoing Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Director General Francis Wangusi will remain in office longer after the court on Tuesday extended orders barring the recruitment of a new boss pending determination of a case challenging his replacement.

Wangusi, whose term expired last week leading to the appointment of Mercy Wanjau, had vowed not to hand over to the new appointee, saying her recruitment was illegal.

The Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) then moved to court to stop the appointment of Ms. Wanjau.

According to COFEK, there’s no board at Communications Authority, therefore, the appoint of Ms. Wanjau did not follow the constitution.

“We are asking that the orders issued before to be extended because there’s no existing board,” the court was told.

COFEK urged the court to extend the orders and have an open recruitment done by an independent recruiting body.

According to COFEK, the 13-member board, led by Gituku, has no powers to recruit a new director-general for a state entity.

CA, through senior lawyer Githu Muigai, refuted claims that there’s no board, arguing that the board is there only that its not fully constituted.

While explaining why the board is not full, the former AG said that there’s a court order stopping gazetting of some board members.

“There’s no crisis in Communication Authority of Kenya…we are operating smoothly,” Muigai submitted.

The case will be mentioned on September 10.

Wajir Mp narrates deadly attack he encountered in company of census officials

Wajir North Member of Parliament (MP) Ahmed Abdisalaan, on Tuesday, opened up on how he survived an attack by marauding bandits.

The ODM MP was addressing a press conference in Wajir town where he spoke for the first time since the ordeal that took place on Thursday, August 22, 2019, in Masalale location.

According to Abdisalaan, the armed robbers’ sole purpose was to kill him. He admitted that he hasn’t been able to forget the incidence, and is likely never to.

On the fateful day, the legislator was in the company of census officials who were carrying out a pre-mapping exercise.

In their company were a group of constituents who had been displaced in Masalale a week earlier following the Wajir South-Eldas border disputes.

Unexpectedly, gunshots rented the air prompting the MP and those in his company to flee back to Malkagufu, leaving their two vehicles behind.

“Thank God I’m alive to tell the story today. We could have been talking of something different because the armed bandits, who were so close to us and were shooting everywhere, were actually targeting me.

He further put Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on the spot for not acting on a promise he made to resolve the border tiff in the area.

Following the incident, North Eastern regional coordinator Mohamed Birik separately assured residents that he had directed the county security committee and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to arrest the criminals who attacked the MP.

Banana republic : Kenya sells Indian Ocean Oil blocs to Qatar

State-owned Qatar Petroleum has fully bought three oil exploration blocs in the Indian Ocean within Kenya’s territory.

The three blocs are said to be adjacent to the region that has been the subject of a maritime dispute between Kenya and Somalia.
Qatar Petroleum signed the deal with Total, a French multinational oil and gas company, and the Italian-rooted Eni both which have ownership of the oil fields.

The Qataris are to take over 25 per cent of the stakes at offshore L11A, L11B and L12 blocks, which are not part of the dispute.

Total made an entry in Lamu Basin in 2011, when it acquired 40 per cent interest in five exploratory blocks- L5, L7, Lila, LI lb and LI 2 from Anadarko Kenya Co, Dynamic Global Advisors and Cove Energy PLC.

The Italian company, Eni has a 41.3 per cent participating interest. Total will keep a 33.8 per cent interest.

The three offshore blocks are situated in what is considered to be a frontier and largely unexplored area in the Lamu Basin.

The oil blocs that have been sold to the Qatari government are said to be approximately 15,000 square feet with water depths ranging from about 1,000 metres to 3,000 metres.

The first exploration well is scheduled for drilling by the State-owned company in the first half of 2020.

This sale comes barely three days after President Uhuru Kenyatta flagged off a ship carrying Kenya’s first batch of exported crude oil.

The oil, drilled in the Lokichar Basin in Turkana County, was sold to a UK-based Chinese firm, ChemChina.

Breaking sad: Wiper party boss passes on

Former Transport and Licensing Board Chairman (TLB) chairman Hassan ole Kamwaro is dead.

He is reported to have succumbed to throat cancer while receiving treatment in the U.S.

In 2015, Kamwaro was named as the Wiper party deputy chairman.
Two years before that, he hit the headlines after marrying Eunice Sesian, a woman who was 46 years his junior.

He was 69 years old at the time and told reporters that in the Maasai culture, it was not age that mattered but family background.

He intimated that his children, some of whom were older then her, had contributed Ksh. 200,000 for the wedding and now referred to her as ‘mum’.

During a past interview with the Daily Nation, Kamwaro revealed that his first wife died in a road accident while the second one left him as he was seeking treatment in the U.S.

Kalonzo meets wiper candidates to replace Mombasa governor Joho in 2022

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has reportedly identified four potential candidates to replace Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho once his second five-year term comes to an end in 2022.

According to The Star, Wiper Party is considering Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo, politician Suleiman Shahbal, former Mombasa county secretary Francis Thoya and former Nyali MP Hezron Awiti.

On Monday, Kalonzo chaired a meeting at the Tamarind Hotel in Mombasa attended by the party officials including Mbogo, Kipevu MCA Faith Mwende, Wiper national secretary for religious affairs Sheikh Twaha Omar, Kalonzo’s son and EALA MP Kennedy Musyoka, among others.

Kalonzo reportedly told his party members that he was willing to go all out to support the party’s candidate and ensure that they clinch the governor seat.

Shahbal ran unsuccessfully for Mombasa governor seat twice. In 2013, he contested under the Wiper party before decamping to Jubilee Party in 2015, which he used to vie for the gubernatorial position.

However, after failing in the Mombasa governor bid, Shahbal was made the Kentrade chair by the Jubilee administration.

On the other hand, Awiti, who contested and won the Nyali seat on a Wiper ticket after decamping from ODM in 2013, had wanted the party ticket to vie for Mombasa governor in 2017 but the party favoured former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar instead.

As for Mbogo, despite his short time in Parliament, Kalonzo has reportedly been impressed by his development record and wants someone of his calibre to represent the party in the gubernatorial contest in 2022.

Likewise, Thoya, who boasts of a good grassroots network with Mijikenda voters (who are the majority in Mombasa) was allegedly kicked out of Joho’s administration because of his political ambitions.

So far, other leaders who have been linked with Joho’s seat include Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir, Mombasa speaker Aharub Khatri, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko and the former Mombasa Senator.

KRA top officials in panic as DPP, DCI intensify tax evasion war

Top officers at Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) are having sleepless nights after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) started grilling them over increased tax evasion.

“Once investigations are complete, you will see KRA officials in court, not just small level, but high level, including commissioners,” said DPP Noordin Haji.

The new KRA commissioner-general James Githii Mburu is among those leading the investigations. He took over from John Njiraini and is determined to end tax evasion allegedly masterminded by some KRA officials and corrupt business persons.
The anti-fraud detectives have camped at the tax collectors’ offices seeking answers to the tax evasion menace.

The onslaught has seen 90 officers interrogated. Among them are 10 top officials from which the detectives want to solve the puzzle that has led to the loss of billions.

According to the DCI, Kenya has had Sh250 billion in taxes directed to individual pockets in a cartel-like scheme that they believe involves KRA officials.

The probe is part of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s initiative to deal with corruption. Speaking during the flagging off of Kenya’s first shipment of crude oil at the Kipevu Oil Terminal in Mombasa, Uhuru said he will not support any official nabbed in the graft war.

DP Ruto picks war with the Standard media group

Deputy President William Ruto has accused The Standard Newspaper of intentionally publishing a fake story. Ruto made reference to an article in which The Standard said former Inter Milan midfielder McDonald Mariga has been dragged into Jubilee’s infighting.

According to the DP, this is so far from the truth and just a figment of fertile evil imaginations of The Standard.

Through his Twitter handle, Ruto said that Jubilee is firmly under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to the article, Ruto’s camp is pushing for Mariga’s candidature in Kibra. It goes ahead to claim that Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju is plotting a scheme to field a weak candidate to give ODM an easy win.

On Tuesday, IEBC announced that it had returned a letter forwarding the names of Jubilee candidates for the Kibra by-elections after the party denied authoring the letter.

This is not the first time Ruto has pointed fingers at Standard Media. Early this month, he accused the paper of misquoting him on the call for referendum with the aim of misleading the public.

“Pastor Nganga is a pulpit comedian”, Lawyer Nelson Havi

City lawyer Nelson Havi has condemned recent actions by Neno Evangelism Ministries founder Pastor James Maina Ng’ang’a who has been at the centre of controversy lately.

The priest was on Monday arraigned in court over allegations of threatening the life of Royal Media journalist Linus Kaikai, where he was forced to apologise.

This came amid the circulation of a clip on social media, showing him insulting his male congregants and threatening to render them impotent, actions that have irked Havi.

In a tweet on Monday, the lawyer bashed Ng’ang’a, saying that his actions have since relegated him from being a pastor to a “pulpit performer”.

He said that he cannot understand why his congregants condone his behaviour, considering that he is not new to controversies.

On Tuesday, a section of the male congregants of the church, through their lawyer, threatened to take action against the priest should he not apologise for demeaning and insulting them.

“Mt. Kenya votes are not up for sale”, Hon. Kabogo warns Tanga tanga politicians

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has warned politicians allied to Tangatanga and Kielewek of polarizing the Mt Kenya region with 2022 politics.

While speaking during the Kameme Tv’s Arahuka Show, the Ex-governor said that the people from Mount Kenya will only give an ear to those individuals who are speaking the politics of succession.

The Ex-governor further said that the politics of succession has given rise to massive corruption in the Country as politician seek money to travel from one region to another.

“I would like to support the head of state Uhuru Kenyatta on the fight against corruption, to those who have stolen, just know the government is after you and the best thing you can do is to report yourself and negotiate as the constitution has allowed and all your property will be taken back,”Kabogo said.

Last week during the burial of John De’Mathew, Kabogo also warned deputy president William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga of spreading hatred among their supporters.

“Mr. President, Let us reduce politics on the 2022 elections so that our country can develop and the people who can be able to stop these politics are only two people and we have one of them in our presence today.

“However, I asked the other one to attend the ceremony but he did not make it. We love our Deputy President but let us stop early campaigns,” Kabogo stated.

The DP would later rubbish the sentiments accusing the former governor of witch-hunting.

Political analyst cum politician Kamau Ngotho has said that the March 2018 Handshake with former rival Raila Odinga has made things worse to politicians who are allied with team William Ruto.

Kamau states that the team views mr Odinga as a man under the mission to Kills Ruto political career as far 2022 politics is concerned.

“Let stop the hatred politics of who will be and who will not, the time to the campaign isn’t now what is important now is service to Wanjiku,” he said.

DP Ruto will be embarrassed in Kibra- Political analyst Herman Manyora

AU Envoy Raila Odinga’s party, ODM is set to outshine Deputy President William Ruto’s Jubilee party.

This is according to renowned political analyst, Herman Manyora who shed light on the reasons why ODM will take the lead in Kibra’s by-election. This comes after Jubilee party announced its intention to join the race.

Manyora who spoke to The Star, outlined that ODM had an advantage over other parties due to its tight grip over the Kibra constituency.

He went ahead to explain that It’s not just about numbers as ODM supporters are more political.

“In addition, most people in Kibra are from Nyanza and another significant portion is from Western.

If you went to Kibra you’d be forgiven for thinking that everyone is from the Luo community or is ODM. That is how we look at our politics, sad as it may be,” he opined.

The analyst further outlined that the ODM brigade also came with a certain sense of magic and charisma during its campaigns, especially when it is led by the likes of secretary-general Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

According to Manyora, when such individuals descend on Kibra, other parties also eyeing the seat will not be eager to counter.

Even more effectively, when Raila opts to campaign in person, that will be the end of the story.

He confirmed that the former Prime Minister only needed to make one appearance during the campaign and ODM would be assured of a win.

However, the analyst outlined that the other parties may have good mobilisers and even excellent ideas only until the ODM brigade descends on the ground.

He further revealed that ODM would have to be very careful with the way it handles nominations because the primaries could turn out to be their undoing.

Itare dam scandal lands 2 more CS inside DPP’s dragnet

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Nordin Haji has said that two Cabinet Ministers will be investigated over Ksh. 28.9billion tender award for Itare dam in Nakuru.

The DPP however denied that he had been in Dubai to investigate the case in which over Ksh. 11billion has been paid for the stalled dam project.

Addressing journalists in Naivasha on Monday, the DPP Haji said he had travelled abroad for personal reasons but his office is in the process of recruiting more personnel.

According to him, this will enable his office to effectively prosecute the increasing number of corruption cases in the country.

He also addressed concerns over delayed convictions saying that it is up to the Judiciary to jail the suspects.

The DPP however cited politicising of cases in courts and attempted bribery of his officers as major hurdles that they are dealing with.

Haji further revealed that senior Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers face arrest in the ongoing purge against tax evasion.

Others are local and international investors who have failed to remit billions of shillings in taxes in the last five years.

This comes just days after the owners of Naivasha-based Keroche Breweries Tabitha Karanja and Joseph Karanja were arrested and charged with Ksh. 14billion tax evasion.

They were later released on bail after pleading not guilty.

According to the DPP, his office has intensified the fight against tax evasion and no one will be spared in the exercise.

Haji said tax evaders were taking advantage of the ineffective and slow process of KRA tribunal to recover taxes, adding that this would be reviewed.

Breaking: Ezekiel Mutua bans “wamlambez and Tetema” songs outside clubs

By Ezekiel Mutua
Tetema and Wamlambez songs are strictly forbidden outside of clubs and bars. It’s embarrassing to see even national leaders singing and dancing to the obscenity in public.

The lyrics are dirty and not suitable for public consumption, especially mixed company or where children are likely to be watching or listening. Both songs are pure pornography.

While we may not ban them because they are coded, it’s important for the public to know that they are dirty and unsuitable for mixed company. Let them be restricted to clubs, strictly for adults!

MacDonald Mariga is a failure and disgusting to the youth after promoting gambling

By Generali Osumo
So what happens when the entire youthful population in a country thinks that their fortunes are limited to politics and political positions only! That is definitely a sign that we’re a failed state.

MacDonald Mariga the most successful soccer legend in the country has thrown his shoes for politics. I do appreciate the rights which comes with democracy yes but why? If at all Mariga wanted to change the lives of the people of Kibra then it won’t be that he must do it from a political seat.

See what other football legends in Africa are doing, look at Didier Drogba, Samuel Etoo and even what George Weah was doing before his people persuading him to vie for presidency! What is Mariga’s base in vying in Kibra, what is his starting point? How has he supported even the sport which he is most successful in?

The other one is the most celebrated and successful reggae DJ/MC in the country Chris Odhiambo aka Kriss Darlin. He shamelessly went on to kneel before Baba to beg for the ODM ticket just to go and fight in parliament. That is his only agenda to the people of Kibra, what a shame, what a letdown to the youthful community!

With all factors considered Mariga and Kriss Darlin have zero chances of becoming the Kibra Mp. The philanthropist late MP Ken Okoth set the bar too high for any joker to be accommodated in the position. Yes I term Mariga and Chris as jokers of the century, Mariga is only killing his most decorated career for pigs business in politics, he will fail terribly.

Let ODM and Jubilee parties reject the 2 and send them back to the drawing board.

Uhuru wants to cling on power beyond 2022 after discovery of oil – Miguna Miguna

Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna has once again predicted a scenario where President Uhuru Kenyatta will cling on power after the lapse of his second and last term in 2022.

In a tweet Monday, the vocal barrister claimed that just like his father and first President Jomo Kenyatta, Uhuru will decide to stick around to enjoy the presidential privileges.

He claimed that the same way Kenyatta held on for 15 years to allegedly continue grabbing public land, Uhuru will do the same to loot proceeds of the oil mined in Turkana county.

According to the exiled opposition activist, its therefore laughable to expect Uhuru to voluntarily leave power as he has been claiming he will, not without a fight.

He also revisited their bad relationship, after he accused Uhuru of rigging his way back into office in the 2017 polls and having him kicked our of the country in February 2018.

He said that the reason why he is being kept away, in Canada, is because of his stand against the government, which he says is a threat to Uhuru’s leadership.

Why Imran Okoth was heckled and humiliated as Raila watched

Via Onyinkwa Onyakundi…
One thing that every rookie politician must learn is to keep an eye on the ball. When it became apparent to Imran Okoth that his late brother Ken Okoth would not complete his term, and he resolved that he would take a shot at replacing him, he ought to have ensured that every decision that he made and every action that he took thereafter would be evaluated on the basis of what impact it would have on this important objective. He ought to have been conscious and deliberate in everything. But he wasn’t.

When I heard that he wanted to be the MP of the ‘Luomost’ constituency outside’ Luoland, and yet he was at the forefront pushing to have his late brother roasted like meat in a Hindu Crematorium instead of having him given a fitting sendoff, I was horrified. With all the ‘poshness’ he could muster, the clueless greenhorn went about presenting himself as the face of the Cremation agenda. But that wasn’t even his most offensive conduct in the minds of the Kibra voter.

The fact that up to the twelve hour, he deceived his poor old Mother that he would ferry her late son’s body home for a proper sendoff, only to sneak it out in the dead of the night to have it lynched like a criminal, that right there was the straw that broke the Camel’s back. This left the old lady depressed and traumatised. And that is why Imran Okoth’s attempts to address the crowd at the Kamukunji grounds today was met with heckling and boos. Deservedly so!

Lessons DJ Kriss Darling needs to learn from Bobi wine

Kriss Darling The DJ

Something Chris need to learn from Big Bobby Wine if we all remember, he is a renown performing artist in Uganda and beyond. His songs touched the people across different backgrounds.

When he was about to join politics, he packaged himself as their leader. The first thing he did, was to change his looks by:

1. Changing his hair style not because he wanted it but because by doing that he was ready to present a new picture of himself as a leader and not as a performing artist anymore.

2. He did not bring his performing artist friends closer to his campaign, he won the hearts of people on the other side. Yes people who did not see him as an artist but as a leader. This people packaged him well and did a political marketing for him.

3. Big Bobi Wine believed in his own people, where he spent his childhood let’s say for Chris it was Gotogo. Bobi went back to seek for their blessings. A case of Barack Obama when he visited Kogelo before being POTUS.

One thing that is coming out is that Kriss Darling is intruding ODM space due to its popularity in Kibra. His blood seems not to be Orange. This was evident in Kamukunji. Baba asked, huyu ni nani? Instead he was shown a photo of him with Ruto then waaaaap the photo of him, Prezzo and DP is now trending.

Whatever he did today at Kamukunji is part of political theatrix but it is backfiring on him in as much as it has given him free publicity. His handlers can either use it to advance his soccer tournaments and other activities he has done for the people of Kibra to uplift their social welfare.

However, Tuesday will catch up with him. Baba has set the day of judgement.

It is just not about your 250k and your ability to lead but also loyalty is key. Politics is not a free gift but you prove yourself in anyway possible.

Just like one reggae musician sung, ” This race is not for the weak, the battle belongs to the strong and those who endureth long”.

Let’s wait and see

All the best Kriss Darlin
