Breaking: DP Ruto humiliated in Meru, county leadership boycotts event

Deputy President William Ruto found himself in unfamiliar territory after senior government officials gave him a wide berth during his tour of Meru County.

Only a junior official was on stand-by to receive the DP with both Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his deputy Titus Ntuchiu missing in action.

Ruto’s first stop was at Meru Level Five Hospital where he inspected the construction of an Intensive Care Unit by the county government of Meru.

Conspicuously absent were the county leadership under whose management the facility falls with the Meru County director of events Al Hajj Mwendia representing the county leadership.

Surprisingly, no apology or explanation was given by the two for skipping the event that marked yet another of DP Ruto’s numerous development tours where 2022 politics often find its way to the agenda.

The top county government leadership was also snubbed the homecoming party of nominated MP Halima Mucheke at Meru Polytechnic grounds that was attended by DP Ruto who led a Harambee in aid of women groups in the area.

Raila faults MPs for discriminating Jubilee strategist Mwende mwinzi over dual citizenship

OCTOBER 5, 2019.
STATEMENT BY RT. HON RAILA ODINGA ON THE NOMINATION OF Ms. MWENDE MWINZI AS AMBASSADOR TO THE REOUBLC OF KOREA:

In the negotiations for the Constitution that we promulgated in 2010, Kenyans in the diaspora put a convincing case for our country to allow dual citizenship. Among other reasons, they demonstrated that they were unable to progress beyond certain grades in employment in foreign countries unless they become citizens of those countries. Until 2010, they could not take citizenship of those foreign countries unless they renounced Kenyan citizenship, which many were not prepared to do.

From the cries of our sons and daughters abroad, we, as a country, agreed to allow dual citizenship, seeing clear advantages that would come with it.

On the development front, the figures bear our diaspora out. Data from the World Bank data indicates that Kenyans living abroad sent home more money last year than the rest of the East Africa Diaspora combined, partly an indication of the changing earnings for our citizens abroad. Kenya’s Diaspora remittances in 2018 stood at Sh280 billion, way more than the Sh242 billion sent to the rest of Eastern Africa — Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and Ethiopia.

Furthermore, remittances from Kenyans in the diaspora currently constitute the country’s single largest source of foreign currency, ahead of major crops and tourism. The Central Bank of Kenya reported that in the 12 months to June 2019, the remittance inflows rose to an all-time high, amounting to Sh285.4 billion from Sh251.4 billion last year, representing a 13.6-per cent growth.

It is against this background that I find the treatment of Ms. Mwende Mwinzi by our Parliament extremely disturbing and dubious. The whole debate around whether she qualifies to be Kenya’s ambassador has cast her as a criminal and reduced her to being less Kenyan than the Members of Parliament while the spirit of letter of the law should protect her.

Opposition to Mwende’s appointment amounts to killing the spirit and necessity of dual citizenship trough which Kenyans sought equal rights abroad and at home to enable them contribute to the development of our nation.
But it is not just about the remittances. Mwende Mwinzi was born in the US. That made her an American citizen. But she was born of a Kenyan father and that made her eligible to claim Kenyan citizenship, which she did when her father migrated to Kenya with the family. She thus ended up with being a citizen of two countries. However, she cannot denounce any because both have been acquired not by application and naturalization but by operation of the law. She cannot undo her birth in the USA; neither can she undo her sire by her father or his Kenyan citizenship.

The Constitution protects her from jeopardy by making a proviso for people like her that the bar from holding a State Office by people of dual citizenship will not apply where they cannot renounce it because it is obtained by operation of the law.

Furthermore, under the constitution today, anyone borne of a Kenyan parent is automatically a Kenyan citizen regardless whether they are born in Kenya or not. Under the current constitution she is a citizen of Kenya by birth even if she was born in America.

Article 14 of our Constitution stipulates that:
1) A person is a citizen by birth if on the day of the person’s birth, whether or not the person is born in Kenya, either the mother or father of the person is a citizen.

(2) Clause (1) applies equally to a person born before the effective date, whether or not the person was born in Kenya, if either the mother or father of the person is or was a citizen.

Other than petty vendetta and a refusal by our Parliament to rise above partisan interests and act in the interest of the nation, there is no reason whatsoever for MPs to maintain Ms. Mwende Mwinzi cannot be our ambassador abroad. I appeal to our MPs to always stand up for the nation. Both the law and the interest of the nation allow Ms. Mwende Mwinzi to represent our country abroad.

Kibra residents fill DP Ruto’s Karen residence for daily payments on Mariga’s candidature

As campaigns for Kibra by-election intensify, details of allegations of voter bribery and buying of electorates have emerged pitting Jubilee Party candidate McDonald Mariga and Deputy President William Ruto.

On Friday, the DP claimed to have hosted a delegation of grassroots leaders from Kibra constituency to drum up support for Mariga at his Karen Residence, Nairobi.

However, social media reports have indicated that the meeting, apart from seeking the support of the attendees, aimed at bribing the Kibra residents.

Blogger Lord Abraham Mutai, has claimed that Kibra voters have been storming the DP’s residence to collect irregular daily payments linked to the Kibra race.

Furthermore, another user who commented on the Mutai post shared a screenshot of a secret message sent to him by unknown sources indicating that the person was being invited at DP Ruto’s residence.

The message further urged the receiver to keep the message private and walk with national ID for verification.

Another social media user, Wegesa Wegesa, who shared his opinion on the matter also alleged that the reports of voter bribery were true to his knowledge.

“I wanted to say I’ll send you early morning pictures of this same road for a week after the elections, these same people will still be walking. But najua nitaambiwa, they’re collecting “shukrani” or something,” he claimed.

According to sources who spoke to this writer on condition of anonymity, on various visits that they have made to the DP’s residence each walked away with at least Ksh500.

Important to note, that the monies pocketed by the delegates were not verified as bribery or the usual ‘political token of appreciation.’

Githunguru MP in mourning, sister found dead

The sister of a well known MP was on Friday found dead in Membley, Ruiru Kiambu County.

The lady was identified as Jane Murugi who is the relative to Githunguri MP Gabriel Kago, was suspected to be murdered.

Kago who confirmed the incident, did not however reveal the exact cause of death.

The lawmaker had been caught in a controversy where he had been accused of battering his wife.

The wife, Emily Wanjiku, had reported the matter at Kiambu Police Station and nursed injuries from the assault.

Wanjiku had disclosed that on September 26 last year, she had a quarrel with Kago which turned into a fight and was attacked with an Iron box by the husband.

Kiambu police boss Patrick Kiprop who had confirmed that the victim had given her statement at the station, stated that investigations into the matter had begun.

Kiprop on his part highlighted that the case was handed over to Kiambu DCIO Paul Wambugu after he termed it as a complicated family issue.

“This is a domestic issue but we are treating it as purely criminal since no one is supposed to assault any person. We will get to the bottom of the matter since both of them have injuries.

“We will then decide whether we will charge one or both of them.” remarked Kiprop.

Process of marrying a Kikuyu wife, expensive!

Every community has its own way of dowry process before marrying off their daughter.

In the Kikuyu community, it is no different. The husband to have to go through a long process before having the lady as his wife.

Kumenya mucii (Getting to know the bride’s home)

This is the first day that the husband-to-be visits the bride’s home. He is accompanied by his family members and friends. Sometimes the bride’s family restricts other people in attendance.

Kuhanda ithigi (Literally means planting a branch of a tree (demarcation)

This can also be simply defined as marking the territory. On this day, the actual marriage discussion goes on between the two families. They might welcome close family only and if non-family members still accompany the groom, they will be secluded from the day’s proceedings.

Kuracia (Actual dowry payment)

If the groom didn’t bring all the required dowry negotiated earlier he is expected to remember to finish his payment, failure to do so spells dishonor to that family.

After this, the bride- to -be is finally recalled and becomes a bride. They all happily feast and eat together. The bride’s family then gives some items to the bride to carry to their home such as kyondo – weaving basket, ciihuri-calabash, lesos, nyungo- pot, mukwa –new rope, a blanket and bed sheets for the bride’s mother, handkerchiefs for the sisters and honey for preparing “muratina” (beer).

As the bride leaves with the groom the bride’s parents then wait to do the last process which is itara- getting to see the nest or nestling place of their daughter.

On this day the bride- to- be and her relatives do all the cooking, for example, mukimo cooked with stinging nettle (thafai), chapatti , black beans (njahi) and a bunch of bananas (mukano).

The father and young men relatives roast some meat while waiting to receive dowry. This is called ruracio, a feast where the groom and his family bring the dowry at the bride –to –be home and show up at about 1pm.

On the arrival the groom’s family will find the gate closed. This is a sign to show that they must sing their way in. Then the bride -to -be and her female relatives welcome them in with songs and dances.

After settling in and before any eating the bride to be is taken away by her fellow female in-laws and relatives, there she is given some advice meanwhile the groom starts ( kuhanda ithigi) planting a branch of a tree which symbolizes that the lady has been booked by the groom.

He then starts the payment process together with his parents and elders to the parents of the lady and their elders.

The dowry could be:-
1. Goima – fattened ram
2. Thenge – He goat – this could be from 99 of them onwards depending on the negotiation made because for example in Kiambu, one has to take 120 goats and 20 cows, after that two more goats are slaughtered (kugurania). In this each, meat part had a specified person to take it.
3. Mori – heifer
4. Njohi ya uki – beer made from honey for the elders as a sign of respect.
5. Cows

Demonitisation failed in India, will Kenya succeed?

By Otieno Nyabemba

India opted to use demonetisation as a means of fighting corruption under the naive imagination that it was going to work like magic …

The move achieved nothing after the country’s central bank, confirmed that 99.3 percent of the demonetized notes had been returned to the banks:

It later emerged that it was an idea that was largely inspired by a Bollywood movie …

With the benefit of hindsight, Kenya still went ahead and employed the failed Bollywood movie script to fight graft and sunk 15 billion into printing new currencies only for 98% of the old currency to be returned:

Just like Huduma, my take on this one is that the demonetisation circus was just a front to create an inflated tender worth 15 billion and we fell for it hook line and sinker … 😎

Weston Hotel: DP Ruto exposed in another scandal as KCB bank’s dues rise to Ksh. 1 billion

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) wants to recover more than Ksh1 billion it claims it’s owed by Weston Hotel linked with Deputy President William Ruto.

Reports by Standard indicated that bank had joined the ownership dispute over the controversial land on which Weston Hotel stands.

KCB will now be involved in a case where the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) sued Weston and National Land Commission (NLC) seeking to recover the 1.77-acre parcel of land.

According to court documents, Weston secured several loans from KCB using the land now being claimed by KCAA as security.

Weston got a Ksh350 million loan using the land and KCB allegedly went ahead and gave the hotel Ksh150 million on October 9, 2014.

Land Dispute

On July 8, 2015, Weston again took another Ksh700 million and used the same land as security.

According to KCB, Weston got the loan from the lender relying on a confirmation from the Registrar of Lands that the hotel was the registered owner of the land.

Weston Hotel
KCAA claims ownership of the land along Lang’ata Road in Nairobi, claims NLC lacked jurisdiction to render a determination over its claim for restitution.

The hotel is owned by Deputy President William Ruto and has been the subject of a protracted legal and political battle after it emerged that the land was allegedly acquired irregularly.

”Kula kwa Mariga, Kura kwa Imran” ,PM Raila

ODM Leader Raila Odinga has said that Kibra residents will vote for the party’s candidate Imran Okoth in the November 7 by-elections despite their opponents using cash to woe voters.

Raila who spoke during a fund’s drive organised by ODM legislators to raise campaign money on Wednesday, said in Dholuo language that Jubilee’s flagbearer MacDonald Mariga has poured money in Kibra but will not get votes.

He assured the legislators that Kibra his ODM zone and that residents will turn out in large numbers on November 7 to vote for Imran Okoth.

The confident Raila noted that he enjoys unrivalled grassroots network in the constituency.

The Former Prime Minister said he has worked with political mobilisers in Kibra for many years and marshalling support for Imran was an easy task.

“I started working with some of you when you were youth but now are old people,” he said.
He added that Kibra residents were only waiting for a call during the voting day to confirm Imran’s win.

He said that the residents have stood with him for many years and will continue doing so because they have not yet completed the journey to Canaan.

The Kibra Seat was declared vacant following the death of Ken Okoth on July 26.

The Jubilee Party under MacDonald Mariga is keen to snatch the seat that is perceived to be the bedroom of ODM in Nairobi County.

Hon. Musalia Mudavadi responds to ODM SG Sifuna in a fiery statement

ODM PRESS STATEMENT ON HON. MUSALIA MUDAVADI, EGH 03 OCTOBER 2019

Our attention has been drawn to a press statement issued today in Nairobi by Mr. Edwin Sifuna, Secretary-General Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.

The statement claims to set out to respond to the ANC Party Leader’s remarks on the Raila Odinga 9 March 2018 handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta and the real force and drivers behind it. We regret to note that the so-called “press statement” degenerates, instead, into a mannerless diatribe – both in content and style.

We regret that this is how low leadership has sunk in our country. We will refrain from engaging in an indecent war of words with the authors and owners of the appalling ODM statement. We choose to remain the party of order, decorum, and common decency. We believe that people can disagree while also remaining decorous. There is no heroism in dirty idiom – even in politics.

We instead stand firmly with our Party Leader, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, EGH. We reaffirm the veracity of his words on the so-called “swearing-in” of Raila Odinga and the handshake.

It is not lost upon Kenyans that a gentleman who “boldly” swore himself in as “President, ” in the style of Napoleon Bonaparte and Jean Bedel Bokassa, moved swiftly and mysteriously to surrender in Harambee House and to suddenly cast himself in the role of a votary of peace. The world will want to ask, what moment of epiphany did he suddenly encounter? When did he see the light on his dark road to Damascus?

Kenyans will also note that not a single word has been said about the people who lost their lives in the so-called “Resistance Movement” that we as ANC internally opposed in NASA meetings. Nor does anyone seem bothered about the fate of the administrator of the infamous Odinga oath, Dr. Miguna Miguna. He languishes in the cold of exile while those he worked with enjoy what resembles the trappings of state power.

What was this handshake thing about, if some people are today hobnobbing with power while others wallow in exile? The truth is that the so-called “swearing-in” was an unfortunate dive into a depraved dark hole. It has been totally devoid of any redeeming value, except selfish personal aggrandizement. The owners continue to dance on the graves of the poor who died for nothing.

Hopefully, the owners of that darkness will someday have a quiet moment and ask themselves a few honest questions on how they have used people – including using other people’s lives.

13 people died on the spot in a grisly road accident and several others were severely injured when an Eldoret Express Bus collided with a truck on Friday, October 4.

Redcross reported that the accident at Pala, 3 km from Awasi, Kisumu county, occurred at 1:30 am according to eyewitnesses.

The number of bodies was confirmed at 2: 30 am by Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu.

“The bus was travelling from Kisumu towards Kericho on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway when the driver tried to overtake a cane tractor and was involved in a head-on collision with the trailer,” Maweu stated.

Of the 13 who died, 12 were in the bus, including an infant. The other person was the truck driver.

“The bodies of the deceased were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital while survivors are also undergoing treatment at the facility,” Nyanza regional police boss Vincent Makokha informed.

On October 1, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i issued the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) with fresh orders.

The road safety agency was ordered back to the roads nine months after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to withdraw from all roads.

In a Twitter post by the Ministry of Interior, NTSA was to set up a joint crackdown on traffic offenders from Tuesday, October 1 to January 31, 2020.

According to Matiang’i, this was in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets of reducing global fatalities and injuries by 50% and providing access to the safe transport system for all.

ODM’s Sifuna: Raila-Mudavadi political marriage is over

MISLEADING STATEMENTS BY MUSALIA MUDAVADI ON THE ORIGINS OF THE HANDSHAKE

In Kenya’s political landscape, it has become tradition for Mr. Musalia Mudavadi to play safe, keep in the shadows and hoping eternally that one day his dream of being what he calls “a compromise candidate”, the proverbial “safe pair of hands” will materialize;

This kind of politician is never known to do anything remarkable, or to go out of his way to help create change. We do not want to define this as cowardly, but Kenyans can make their own judgement. It is also common for his ilk to make outlandish and totally outrageous statements, to gain the ever elusive mileage.

It is in keeping with this pattern that Mr. Mudavadi has chosen the relative safety of the USA, where he is on a visit, to make the false allegation that the Handshake between H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta and H.E. Rt Hon Raila Odinga, was a product of blackmail, allegedly from foreign powers who he claims had started cancelling visas of Kenyan leaders, in order to force a truce between the feuding sides in the country. It is therefore Mr. Mudavadi contention that the Handshake is weak and not founded on deeper conviction.

Mr. Mudavadi has confessed on numerous occasions that he and his NASA co-principals only learned of the Handshake through the media, like all Kenyans. It is surprising therefore that he can suddenly, after landing on American soil, have “details” of what happened, how it happened or for what reason.

For one to understand why they had no clue that the Handshake was nigh, you would need to track back to the day His Excellency Raila Odinga was sworn in as the People’s President. On that day, Mr Mudavadi and his colleagues are now known to have locked themselves in toilets or some other small safe areas, allegedly waiting for certain Nigerian magic wands to deliver them from self-imposed detention.

In the US, Musalia is now saying he believed nothing good would come out of the swearing in. we wish to make it clear that It is in fact Musalia and his colleagues who succumbed to international pressure not participate in the swearing in. These are individuals who would readily sacrifice the will and desire of their own people in order to please their friends in foreign capitals. Visa cancellations have always been with us. Even very recently, the US ambassador spoke of denying visas to corrupt people. How come these other threats of Visa Cancellation have never caused any major political development on the scale of the handshake?

Indeed, if any foreign powers had threatened visa sanctions, it would have been to STOP this swearing in by H.E. Odinga, NOT to birth the Handshake! Sections of the international community had given a thumbs up to the disputed Elections and publicly advocated for the results to be accepted by all unconditionally.

The cowardly act of Mr Mudavadi attempting to “apply the brakes on the swearing in”, to quote his own words in Homa Bay just three days before the historic swearing in, and his subsequent skipping of the event ruled him out of any future deal making, including the Handshake, for in peace as in war, those who stand for nothing get NOTHING!
Immediately Musalia boycotted the event, the trust that existed between him and Raila broke down irretrievably.

Raila and ODM decided on that day to chart a new course without our so called coalition partners. Musalia does not know what happened from there on. He was in the dark and he remains in the dark. He knows nothing about that chapter of Kenya’s history and would be best advised not to parade his ignorance especially in faraway lands.

We are constrained to let Mudavadi know that his reputation as a “reluctant revolutionary” goes back many years including 2002, when democracy warriors came together to defeat the Kanu machine. At the last minute, he is known to have switched off his phone, possibly to have it “woken up” by a Nigerian line later, and disappeared from his colleagues, only to emerge later singing Kanu yajenga nchi. In subsequent years, Mr Mudavadi has perfected the philosophy of the so called safe hands, waiting like the proverbial hyena who waited for a man’s hands to fall.

We must inform Mr Mudavadi and other enemies of the handshake that no hand from this Handshake will fall for the hyena to benefit, so they must find other ways to seek relevance.

The Handshake between the two leaders, as they have stated repeatedly is born of a deeper desire to unite the country, build bridges and grow together beyond the five year cycle of politics and hatred. They are both committed to this and will not waver. No foreign power has the capacity to cage H.E. the President and H.E. Raila Odinga, as Mr Mudavadi may suggest.

We once again reiterate our commitment as ODM to the handshake and vow to support the two leaders in this noble effort to bring our people together.

SECRETARY GENERAL
ORANGE DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT.

Kiambu Women Rep Wamuchomba backs ODM’s Imran

Kiambu County Women Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba has dismissed Jubilee aspirant Macdonald Mariga as curtain raiser, backing ODM’s Imran Okoth.

Even as Jubilee puts a brave face, the deep seated mistrust between those supporting President Uhuru and those backing the deputy president continue to paralyze the ruling coalition, with leaders pulling in opposite directions.

At the same time, several youths from Mt. Kenya region also backed the ODM candidate, saying the handshake is paramount.

“Having evaluated all the candidates, we have come to the conclusion that the best candidate with the vision and clout to fit in the gap and continue with the great works left by the late Ken Okoth is none other than Imran (Okoth).

BREAKING: Wrangles rock Mariga campaign, Khalwale dropped

Former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale has been dropped from Macdonald Mariga strategy team over campaign funds fraud, Kenya Today has learnt.

The MP is said to have been given Ksh 3 million for mobilization in Kibra but ended up using only Ksh 100,000 which he gave to a group of “luhya leaders” purportedly to do the mobilization on his behalf as he feigned fatigue and kept off.

The issue became heated in a Nairobi hotel when two MPs from the rift valley confronted him.

Though low key, Khalwale has been having frosty relationship with the core team arranging DP Ruto events over his incessant demand for cash to supposedly ‘campaign’ for the DP in Western Kenya.

Even as he campaigns allies with the deputy President, Khalwale has also announced he will contest the Kakamega gubernatorial position which is also being eyed by Jubilee majority whip and Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali.

Braeking: Starehe girls school closed indefinitely

Starehe Girls High School in Nairobi has sent home form 1-3 students for three days following the outbreak of an unidentified illness.

This comes barely two days after reports emerged that some students had been quarantined after exhibiting signs of a strange, unidentified illness.

KTN News reported on Thursday, October 3, that the number of students affected by the disease has risen from the earlier stated 52 to 81.

Further reports also indicate that some parents have been stopped from taking their quarantined children home citing health concerns.

A meeting involving parents and teachers is in progress to chart the way forward.

A press statement released on Tuesday, October 1, stated that each of the quarantined students had a high pitched cough and sneeze, as well as low-grade fever.

“52 girls have since been isolated for observation within the school. Samples have been obtained for further tests. Their parents and guardians have been informed, and the school is in constant communication with them,” read an excerpt of the school’s official statement.

The learning institution informed parents, guardians and stakeholders, that they were working with the Health Ministry and the department of Integrated Disease Surveillance Response (IDRS) to establish the cause of the strange disease.

Romance: Kikuyu women new hot cake to Luo men, deep entrenched love

The Nairobian did not carry out a random survey, but you can be sure there were fewer Kikuyu men who trooped to Uhuru Park for the recent ‘swearing in’ of Nasa luminary Raila Odinga, a Luo.

The Luos and Kikuyus are historically divergent communities, a situation further accentuated by their huge variances in language, culture, mindset, attitude, belief system and social mores.

Their only point of convergence is in intermarriages: It is common for Kikuyu women to marry Luo men than it was the case at independence when the late Wambui Otieno, mother of four, married the late criminal lawyer SM Otieno-and dispensed with bride price altogether.

This convergence in matrimony, though, is one sided: Kikuyu men don’t rush with equal zeal to marry Luo women…which to most people from Central Kenya is akin to “kujiapisha.”

Evans Karuku, a TV programme producer, blames the two community’s shared political acrimony which “goes back to the era of Jaramogi (Raila’s father) and Mzee Kenyatta (Uhuru’s father). There has never been a good relationship between the two communities even in modern politics and the two hardly unite, making it hard for romantic relationships to thrive.”

Businessman Brian Gitau points out that besides political differences, culture contributes a huge part. Kikuyus are Bantus who circumcise their boys when they come of age while Luos are River Lake Nilotes for whom the cut is meaningless. “In Kikuyu culture, any uncircumcised man, whether 50 or 100 years old is still considered a “kihii” (uncircumcised boy) who cannot say anything of importance or attend any meaningful ceremony and hence, the two tribes are not compatible,” reasons Brian, giving the reason the two don’t see eye to eye.

So, why do Luo men prefer marrying Kikuyu women and why do Kikuyu women fall head over heels for men from Luo Nyanza?

Paul Odera, en Events Organizer, explains that Luos are mostly dark skinned and the light complexion of sisters from Central Kenya is one factor.

“Their yellow-yellow colour drives us crazy. We cannot resist a Kikuyu woman. Second, they’re hardworking and enterprising and will help you grow your business. Since Luo men don’t care much about money, a Kikuyu woman will multiply it for the family,” he says. As for why Luo men skirt marrying their chicks, Odera shares that Luo women can be a handful.

“They are on your face from personal life to business! She must co-sign and you don’t even have a chance to breath,” he says. Kikuyu women, on the other hand, says Odera are easy to handle.

“They are hardly on your face all the time, as long as you are providing they take a back seat.”

Collins Omondi, a farmer, concurs, arguing that it’s easier to date a Kikuyu woman. “They are easy to handle compared to Luo women who have egos and demand a lot of expensive things. We have left them for wazungu. Kikuyu women are also more beautiful and while they might not be better in the bedroom, they are willing to go with the flow or do anything to impress, but a Luo woman only gives what she wants.” Kikuyu women also have their reasons for preferring brothers from the Lakeside.

Loise Wairimu, an IT technician, finds Luo men irresistible for two reasons. “First, Luo men are great in bed and they have bigger junks compared to our men and secondly, they go the extra mile in relationships. A Luo man will make you feel you are the only one in the relationship even if you are many. When you meet him he is already using sweet words like babe, honey, my wife, which is very romantic.”

Wairumu also says they’re better providers ensuring “you have what you need and they are gentlemen so we love them but our Central brothers do not care much about chivalry.”

Rachel Wangeci, a sales representative, agrees and argues that her brothers from Central Kenya hardly put effort in relationships and the moment you ‘enter his box’ he treats you like a woman who has five of his kids.

“Being romantic is not in their dictionary, they behave the way their fathers treated their wives. Luo men make an effort to celebrate things and treat you well even in bed,” she explains elaborating that for Kikuyu men lungula is “about him satisfying himself and they don’t care whether I am satisfied or not.”

Ferry politics and myopia- Governor Hassan Joho

By Duncan Kibwage Makori
In February 2016, Governor Joho muscled out Kenya Ferry Services from managing the ferries. His argument was that the management is too incompetent to handle the lives of thousands who cross the ferry on a daily basis. Familiar? Isn’t it? KFS sued the Governor and in November 2016 the governor lost the case as the High Court ordered him to return the facility back to KFS.

The county government appealed the decision but the Court of Appeal dismissed the case in favour of the national government. The court said the Likoni channel was not an inland lake but part of international waterways assigned to the national government (Note not county government).

Governor Joho did not stop there. He headed to the Supreme Court, after a lengthy and strenuous argument from the Governor’s lawyer Mr Paul Mwangi, the case was simply dismissed on the basis of technicalities. The court simply said that it lacked merit.

After a 3-0 loss, it’s outrightly immoral for someone to call out the Governor for mismanagement of KFS. It’s an act of philanthropy for the Governor to step in and try to help where he was chased away from. My deepest condolences to those affected by the tragedy.

”You are bankrupt, ‘Shindwe’ !”, DP Ruto tells Nation media over publication

Deputy President Dr William Ruto has been in a tussle with Media houses not less than once over controversial headlines.

Just recently, the DP has been been seen blasting the Standard Media Group on several occasions over controversial headlines that run with his name, and now, he has turned his anger to the Nation Media Group.

On Thursday morning, Daily Nation newspaper ran a headline titled “Murumbi Land Ownership Row Haunts Ruto”.

Responding to the headline, the seemingly angry Ruto said that the news was fake and sponsored.

Accusing the media house of being bankrupt, Ruto said that it has become hard for them to make a sale without his name on the headline.

“The now persistent, obviously sponsored FAKE NEWS by hired bankrupt media that finds it difficult to make a sale without the name Ruto. Bure kabisa. Riswa! ” Ruto tweeted.

Two months ago, Ruto put The Star Newspaper on the spot over a story on their cover page.

Ruto referred to The Star’s cover story that was titled ‘Ruto Allies Plot to Scuttle Uhuru-Raila Referendum’, as fake news.

According to the Deputy President, it was uncouth of newspapers, to use his name to sell stories even when he was not involved in the said news.

Uhuru on spot for not delivering to his 1 million promise to precious talent victims

Top country leaders were blasted for empty promises over the Precious Talent School tragedy, where eight students died on Monday, September 23, after a classroom collapsed.

A mourner who spoke at one of the burials of the deceased, on Wednesday, October 2, alleged that Raila Odinga, Mike Sonko and President Uhuru Kenyatta had not delivered on their pledges.

He further claimed that Deputy President William Ruto was the only leader who had kept his promise.

DP Ruto when he visited a survivor of the Precious Talent School tragedy. He was praised for delivering on his promise to the family victims.

“Nairobi county government promised to give us money when we were at the memorial (Saturday, September 27). Odinga also stated that he would give his donation and Kenyatta’s one too. Sadly, we have not received the donations.

“This family has not been supported at all. People were alleging that the government stood for this funeral when we had our own Harambee. We ourselves contributed to raising money to hire the buses,” the mourner cried out.

He went on to tear into governor Mike Sonko while praising Dagoretti South MP, John Kiairie and DP Ruto.

“His county promised to give us a hearse and buses. We only received the hearse. They went on to state that they will pay the mortuary fees for us. However, they have not paid a single dime.

“Kiarie refunded us the money we spent at the morgue after I cried out to him. For DP Ruto, we received his Ksh 800, 000 pledge wholeheartedly and his contribution will be divided equally to eight families,” the anonymous mourner disclosed.

On Saturday, September 27, Odinga stated that he would donate Ksh3 million to the benefit of the families of the victims and pupils affected by the Precious Talent School tragedy.

Raila also told the audience that part of the three million he donated, was President Uhuru Kenyatta’ Ksh1 million towards reconstruction and an additional Ksh1 million for the parents of the victims.

BBI will prevail if it listened to the people- Gov. Mutua

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has called on the Building Bridges Initiative BBI to first consider the people’s opinions before making its final recommendations.

Speaking on KTN Tv Point Blank show on Wednesday evening, the Machakos governor said BBI’s survival will only depend on how the team will formulate its final findings.

He expressed hopes the initiative was going to work if it will only be based on the views of the people and not the leader’s views.

Mutua maintained that if the bill was only meant for creating positions for some people, then it was going to fail.

Mutua added that if the bill was going to create ways to cut the public wage bill, then it had higher chances of absorbing Ekuru Aukot’s Punguza Mizigo Initiative which is currently facing obstacles in many counties.

“If the BBI sets proper ways to cut waste, it can absorb the Punguza Mizigo bill” he added.

He poked holes into Aukot’s initiative saying he was against a one-term, 7-year presidency. According to him, the same would breed dictators in the country since the term will be so long for a serving president.

According to the former government spokesman, the referendum should not be set on one question of Yes and No, since that, he said will divide the country along two lines.

However, he seconded the bill saying BBI was not dynasty politics. “I believe in a system where there is not a strong prime minister and a strong president. One has to be stronger than the other” he stated

Mutua’s remarks came at a time when some of the MPs in Jubilee who initially opposed have endorsed the BBI bill. Aden Duale who has been ambivalent on the referendum through the BBI has so far thrown his weight behind the bill saying the BBI is anchored in law and can have its report tabled in Parliament for discussion.

“Together with Minority Leader John Mbadi, we tabled a motion on the BBI and therefore the initiative is well constituted and can have its report received by Parliament,” said Nduale recently.

Jubilee party youth wing declares support for ODM’s Imran Okoth

Jubilee party youth wing has officially declared their support for ODM’s Candidate Imran Okoth in the upcoming Kibra parliamentary race.
The youth leadership revealed that they decided to support Imran Okoth in the spirit of handshake between president Uhuru and former Prime minister Raila Odinga.
Here is the press statement ;

Rebel movement

Jubilee MPs Fatuma Gedi, Maina Kamanda, Beatrice Elachi and Rachael Shebesh also opposed the nomination of McDonald Mariga as a Jubilee candidate for Kibra by-election.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Wednesday, September 25, the MP said she will not support Mariga despite having been endorsed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto because her conscience does not allow her. “We really made a wrong choice as a party by settling on Mariga who has no track record despite having a successful football career and earning millions of shillings. He has no single project in Kibra under his name,” said Gedi

The women rep further faulted the nomination process saying it was unfair and designed to favour the footballer over other aspirants who were better placed to lead the constituency. “As Jubilee leaders, what we wanted was a free and fair nomination process the same way ODM did but people were taken in a board room and questions asked then settled on Mariga.

We really made a bad choice,” she added Gedi has joined a section of other Jubilee leaders who have equally opposed the footballer’s candidature on grounds that he was unfairly nominated, has no development record and has a questionable birth certificate.

The footballer has also been accused of taking little interest in the country’s leadership and politics and only registered as a voter after the Kibra seat was declared vacant.

The impact of Brookside dairy Monopoly on the average Dairy farmer

By Abraham Mutai

Currently the Firm has lowered the producer price of milk to as low as ks 25 and worst still in the last one week they dropped some of the farmer groups that have been supplying them with milk. if the issue is not addressed the Country might find itself in the scenario where farmers are forced to pour their milk for lack of alternative.

Further, the Country Dairy Milk Market is currently infiltrated by milk from our neighbouring Country (Uganda), unconfirmed figures suggest that the imports are as high as 400,000 litres of Milk per day. The Kenyan milk is left to fight for the remaining markets, if you do a survey most of the Local processor have huge stocks of processed milk with no market to sell. Least we forget the Kenyan Dairy farmers has to contend with the high cost of production as compared to their Neighbours, there have been suggestions that the cost of production in Uganda and Tanzania could be as low as ksh. 9, thus if the market is left open Kenyan farmers cannot compete. This is the reason as to why Broadside is able to import cheap milk from Uganda while reducing the local supply.

Based on the above from a farmer, kindly anyone with information in this sector get in touch. Let us set about advocating for every sector in Kenya. Let us all fix this country

Ksh. 7.4 Billion gone into waste after closure of 1000 note exchange deadline

Central Bank of Kenya Governor Dr. Patrick Njoroge has declared 7,386,000 pieces of old Sh1,000 notes worth Ksh7.4b worthless.
This follows the lapse of the 30th September demonization deadline in which the Governor ordered Kenyans to return the old Ksh1000 notes to banks.

Dr. Njoroge made the revelations at a press conference to update on the process of withdrawal of the older KSh 1,000 note from circulation.

“There were 217,047,000 pieces of KSh 1,000 as of June 1 – 209,661,000 pieces of KSh 1,000 were received by the end of September 30,” he said.

He explained that the value of money that did not come back is equivalent to the value lost during the Goldenberg case.

“The citizens of our country demand and deserve a fresh start, and the demonetisation process is a beginning”

He said CBK had to strike a balance to give ‘Wanjiku’ time while also ensuring that the aims of demonetisation were accomplished.

“In designing the demonetisation strategy, we looked at the experience of other countries and learned from them. We wanted to minimise the disruption to the economy while enhancing effectiveness” he said.

He lauded the process as successful noting that CBK implemented a robust anti-money laundering framework as we conducted the demonetisation exercise.

The exercise was to deal with illicit financial flows and to deal with counterfeits.

Hon. Duale is not a pure Kenyan, still holds Somali citizenship- Activist Okiya Omtata

Activist Okiya Omtata has written to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate House Majority leader Aden Duale and other legislators who might hold dual citizenship.

The letter quoted by a local daily, stated that EACC was asked to investigate whether Duale and other legislators are holders of foreign IDs.

“The Constitution expressly prohibits Members of Parliament from possessing dual nationality if it was acquired through naturalisation,” Omtata stated in his letter.

In the letter, Omtatah wants Nakuru senator Susan kihika, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, Marsabit Woman Rep Sofia Adan, Mandera South MP Haji Adan, and Dadaab MP Mohammed Duale investigated.

Other legislators named

Others include Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina, Lagdera MP Mohammed Garane, Mwingi West lawmaker Charles Nguna and Naivasha MP Jane Kihara.

The activist argued that the Constitution prohibits Members of Parliament from possessing dual nationality.

“We hope that you will comply with our above request so that we do not have to move to the High Court of Kenya to seek coercive orders against the Government,” the letter dated October 1 stated.

Dual citizenship row

Omtatah’s request comes in the backdrop of a dual citizenship dispute that saw a House committee reverse the decision of the National Assembly to approval Mwinzi as Kenya’s Ambassador to South Korea.

The House had directed Mwinzi to denounce her US citizenship before taking up the role in Seoul, South Korea which she refused.

The team further directed Foreign Affairs to conduct an audit on all serving ambassadors to establish if they have dual citizenship.

Kenya is a shithole country, should be sold off to the highest bidder

Via George Morara!
Hello shithole countrymen and women!

How does a ferry that transfers 400 people every hour not have basic safety and emergency arrangements? How does a city the size of Mombasa not have a functioning Coastguard within metres of any ferry line? How can a family drown right in front of 200+ people and none has the skills to jump into the water to save lives? Why is there no bridge between Likoni and the Island barely half a kilometre’s distance 800 years after the city was founded? And who are the idiots running our country? What lessons do we learn from our accidents? And why don’t we hold our leaders responsible for such needless deaths?!

What a failed state! I am so angry!

KENYANS until the day you will be angry enough to want change, you will continue to bury your healthy family members for reason of negligence and apathy.

Let me just warn my friends who may wish to visit my country. Beautiful land, plenty to see and eat but at your own risk:

Your bag is likely to be lost by the National airline.
You are likely to be robbed on your way from the airport

You will be stuck in traffic for hours to cover 5 miles to your hotel and witness several accidents happen if not involved in one.

The police may demand a bribe for driving legally if you are involved in an accident and the insurance will not pay it doesn’t matter if you had comprehensive cover. Not being at fault is not good enough and you may be considered weird to argue. You will have to accept absurdity, count your loss and carry on the journey. All you need actually is a running engine and turning wheels.
Someone may snatch your phone in traffic

The cashier may withhold your change or shortchange you. Goods once sold are not refundable. Faulty or substandard.
Water and honey or even bottled soda in the supermarket likely to be fake.
If there’s a fire right outside the fire station none of the firefighters will be trained to operate the engine.
If you land in hospital you pray you are not in a comma because that’s certified mortuary condition or be misdiagnosed so the doctor’s friend who owns a chemist near the hospital selling government medicine can cash in.

Basically sleeping in your house, traveling anywhere, eating or drinking anything or trying to access basic services in the country is a hazard.

And don’t trust anyone telling you they will “help” you! They mean fleece you. Not the police, nor the lawyer nor the doctor nor pastor nor even relatives living there! Be particularly careful about the doctors and pastors and everyone else.

It’s not just the lack of leadership but a collective stupid mentality.

Welcome to KENYA 2019! To survive try to be as cunning and as stupid as everyone else. Walk in Nairobi like you live there. And always wear a T-shirt with the words “I love Karate” written in BOLD both in front and rear side.

And to everyone who smiles and says “jambo” to you, hold on to your belongings, smile back and reply “punda wewe!” It means have a pleasant day!

Research: Best maternity hospitals in Kenya

By Philip Nyamai via fb

Maternity
If you are an expectant mother, you have probably been searching for the best maternity hospitals in Kenya to bring forth your bundle of joy into the world.
There are two paths in which a child comes to this World after a nine-month stay in its mother’s womb and that could either be via Cesarean Section popular as CS or the vaginal birth common as the normal birth.
A cesarean section could be done as a matter of emergency when the life of the expectant mother or the child she is carrying is at risk or simply when the expectant woman chooses it as a means of delivering her child.
Vaginal birth on the hand is what has always existed before the coming of technology and happens when the mother is due for delivery after nine months which could happen anytime between 38 and 40 weeks.
Whether caesarean of vaginal birth, the delivery process results into motherhood, a responsibility so demanding yet quite fulfilling.
The process of an expectant mother delivering does not come without its share of pain irrespective of the path one chooses, the only choice is whether one prefers to have the pain before delivering of the child or after.
In the olden days our grandmothers delivered at home and most cases were successful, the same cannot be said in recent times as risks have increased pushing women to seek not just hospital assistance but the best maternity services.
Today, one can choose according to their budget and preference which hospital they wish to deliver at, ranging from as affordable as 250 shillings to as expensive as 400,000 shillings in Kenya.
