HERE is the LATEST of President Magufuli’s CHRISTMAS DRAMA, What government Officers MUST DO!

In John Pombe Magufuli’s Tanzania today, if you are a government official travelling outside the country, at the immigration desk:

1. You have to prove that your travel is not funded by taxpayers.

2. You must prove that your trip is necessary.

3. You must prove that you are not running away to evade JPM’s war on corruption, wastage and laziness.

4. You must have two letters, one from the country’s national treasury indicating you are not under investigations and the other from the office of the Chief Secretary (head of Public Service) showing the trip is sanctioned.
If you are going for holiday abroad;

1. You must prove that the country you are going to fiesta in is more serene than Mwalimu Julius Nyerere’s Tanzania.

2. You must prove that you have done your duty to the government commensurate to the time you will spend away.

3. You must show how many times you’ve visited your village.

Phil Etale to Dennis Itumbi: Get FACTS RIGHT on Rt Hon PM Raila, Stop Preaching LIES!

On Monday this week, my friend Dennis Itumbi gave a long list of people who he says have respected the Rule of Law in Kenya.

He mentioned former CSs Ngilu & Eng. Kamau whom he said were taken to court on corruption related cases. He also mentioned Treasury CS Henry Rotich, his PS Dr. Thugge, Controller of Budget and the Auditor General saying that they were summoned by the EACC to record statements on the theft of Eurobond money.

He also reminded us that former powerful CS Anne Waiguru, her PS Dr. Mangiti and NYS D.G Dr. Githinji appeared before the EACC to record statements on the theft of NYS money.

The good Mr. Itumbi also told us how journalist John John Karobosta Ngirachu was arrested for writing unsubstantiated reports on misappropriation of funds at the Interior Ministry and later released on purported intervention of the President and his Deputy (I wonder if the two share power to issue equal orders) and also about former CS Davis Chirchir who he says was summoned by the EACC to record a statement on the chicken-gate saga.

The ‘son of God’ Mr. Itumbi whose grandfather was my able Archbishop of the ACK (my Church) jogged up our minds by reminding us how former President Mwai Kibaki went to court after being summoned by a Judge.

He then tells us how CORD leader Raila Odinga ignores summons. He also talked of the 2013 Supreme Court battle on the validity of the presidential votes and the subsequent ‘remote controlled’ and ‘under duress’ ruling by the Supreme Court judges.

Now let me inform this Mr-Know-It-All something he doesn’t know about Raila. Mr. Odinga is a man who respects the Rule of Law more than those he has mentioned. He has been through all that he (Itumbi) is talking about and even worse, for the better part of his political life.

When Raila alongside other great men and women of the soil were going through torture and public embarrassment, this ‘cry-baby’ was feeding on cerelac in his Embu backyard.

When the gallant men and women of the land put their lives on line to have Kenya liberated from a de’jure/de’facto one party state to political pluralism, most of the people Itumbi speaks for were riding in state of the art limousines and knew nothing about the smell and the feeling of teargas. Itumbi himself was a toddler playing kalongolongo in the village (no pun intended).

I want to remind Mr. Itumbi and his paymasters that Mr. Raila Odinga appeared in court on numerous fictitious and state stage managed charges. He won. He never relented. He fought on and together with other like-minded Kenyans delivered Kenyans to the ‘promised land’. A land where freedom of association and expression, media, information and worship would be respected. Yes, he won.

About appearing before the EACC, I want government’s blue-eyed-boy Mr. Itumbi to quote any clause in law that says that someone MUST be forced to give information to investigating institutions… Show me one my brother.
Again, the persons he mentioned in his post were suspects. People who had been adversely mentioned in corruption related matters. Who has implicated Mr. Odinga in any scandal. He only blew the whistle on the theft that was going on in government. And he will continue to do so.

About Mr. Kibaki appearing in court, yes he did. He was witness and he faithfully adhered to court summons to give his testimony on the matter at hand. So did Raila two years ago when he appeared before a Malindi Court as a witness on land related case. He respected the Rule of Law as he has always done.

Mr. Itumbi, kindly before you post anything, try to check your facts. Don’t just rush to please your bosses. Be smart. Be the gentleman I know. Good evening.

Time is Ripe for Sam Nyamweya to EXIT the Kenyan Soccer Scene

Recent events in Kenyan football lay full credence to the fact that Football Kenya Federation President Sam Nyamweya and his team have outlived their usefulness at the helm of Kenyan football. To begin with, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has been operating outside the Law by failing to comply with the Sports Act 2013, specifically section 48 of that Act that requires that it re-aligns its constitution and regulations to the Sports Act before seeking re-registration.

The Kenyan Football governing body has failed to apply for registration as required by the existing law despite being granted an extension window mid this year. Amazingly therefore, FKF is not registered with the Sports Registrar and has consequently been operating illegally.

At the very beginning of their current term, the FKF top leadership ensured that those officials who were interested in cleaning the game such as Sammy Shollei and Dan Shikanda were hounded out of office through suspension. They were suspended for opening a court case in contravention of FIFA statutes yet the same FKF top leadership has recently subsequently flouted this same statute with impunity by taking KPL to court.

Overwhelmingly, there has been gross mismanagement of funds meant for the development of Kenyan footbal.FIFA gives FKF approximately $250,000 (KES 23 million) each year yet as a public institution the FKF has never seen it prudent to publish financial statements like it happens in other parts of the world.

The World football governing body has in the recent past remitted funds to FKF for payment of referees yet referees remain unpaid to date. Instead, there has been claims of irregular massive withdrawal of the FIFA disbursements by top FKF officials.

Embezzlement of proceeds earned from sponsors and from broadcasting rights that are earned by the Kenya Premier League has been another cause of great concern. For instance, a recent deal for marketing rights that FKF entered into with Sports Marketing Agency MP & Silva of Monaco where local premier league clubs have accused the federation of forging the signatures of their Chairmen and using it to get Ksh. 83 million from the Agency meant for the Kenya Premier League on behalf of the Clubs. Minutes of a non-existent meeting of the KPL in Kakamega on January 30th 2015 was fraudulently used to hoodwink MP & Silva into releasing the money which was subsequently withdrawn by a senior FKF official for personal use. Astonishingly,these criminal acts happened while FKF already had an existing similar deal with Supersport of South Africa.

FKF has alienated potential sponsors like Safaricom, with allegations that FKF top leadership have demanded kickbacks of up to 20% of cumulative sponsorship funds.

To make matters worse, youth development structures are virtually dead with major corporate sponsors like CocaCola having withdrawn over allegations of graft. The same reasons are attributed to the collapse of the Ksh.200 Million Safaricom-sponsored Sakata soccer tournament across the country. Additionally, telecommunications firm Orange also withdrew from sponsorship of the primary schools’ soccer tournament due to unwarranted demand for bribes.

Kenyan soccer lovers have also witnessed the worst form of management at the national level where the countrys’ soccer teams such as the senior national team, the U-23 team, women’s teams and so forth are often facing crisis while in camp. Consequently, the disappointing performance and results on the pitch whenever any of the national team is playing has left a lot to be desired.

Kenya teams have in the recent past been humiliated by other teams that were hitherto minnows in African footbal. National team players are owed colossal sums of money in the form of unpaid allowances and match-winning bonuses, while foreign-based players labour to get refund for personal moneys they have spent on Air Ticket based on instructions by FKF while called for national duty, with some like first choice goalkeeper Arnold Origi opting to keep-off in the recent past for the same reasons.

Haphazard travel arrangements, which compromises on-field performance, for Harambee Stars has constantly been witnessed, culminating into the near fatal last-minute travel arrangements to Cape Verde despite claims by the Sports Ministry that it released Ksh. 17 Million in good time for the same purpose. This was closely followed by the Ethiopia-CECAFA fiasco, leading to the embarrassing detention of Team Manager Willis Waliaula on behalf of the team.

The subsequent resignation of both the Team Manager and goalkeeper-trainer Mathew Ottamax Owino did not therefore come as a surprise and underlined the pathetic state of Kenyan soccer.With no positive results to show and lack of accountability, the FKF top brass also negotiated a salary of a whopping Ksh. 2.5 Million per month for the Harambee Stars Coach, with rumours rife that the same officials get corresponding monthly kickbacks arising from the same. Kitting of the National Soccer teams is shrouded in contractual mystery, while women football is virtually non-existent.

The 2013 CECAFA cup hosted by FKF was shambolic and poorly managed to the point that teams like Zanzibar vowed never to play in Kenya again. As if that was not enough, Kenyans were treated to theatre of the absurd when FKF sanctioned two parallel Premier leagues during the 2015 season – KPL and FKF Premier Leagues. FKF claimed they had a television and title sponsor ready for the League yet they had not identified them at that point in time. So how is the public supposed to believe them? FKF then went ahead to release dishonest statements to the effect that Gor Mahia,AFC Leopards and Muhoroni Youth FC had agreed to play in the FKF-PL,which the aforementioned Clubs disowned. All these intrigues and innuendos by FKF were going on yet it was clear that all genuine interested parties acknowledge KPL as the official body to run the Premier League in Kenya on behalf of FKF.

There has been virtually no significant development within Kenya football over the last 5 years. Perhaps the only positive aspects of Kenya football in the recent past is the Kenya Premier League (KPL), which the same FKF leadership has viciously attempted to ruin as well. All major football stakeholders in this Country have lost faith in the current FKF leadership. They have merely been hanging onto technicalities which are basically rules that FIFA and CAF have mischievously put in place to protect and keep corrupt officials in office in total contradiction to the Principles of Good Corporate Governance.

Good leadership skills dictates that the moment a leader realizes that he has lost the confidence of his subjects and no longer has the moral authority to govern, he needs to leave office as soon as yesterday instead of waiting to be forced out. My take is that time is up for Nyamweya and his team. They must now leave. Punda Amechoka.

The gathering was billed as a consensus building event that was to culminate into a ‘new,’ all inclusive political outfit, but it turned out to be a Homeric event with the exact same things that the status quo has been feeding Kenyans since time immemorial.

If you were looking for something new, this was not your event. Take your pick. It was a menu of total confusion, doublespeak, coercion and outright chicanery. The array of mixed emotions on the faces of those political leaders in the audience said it all. From DP William Ruto’s abrasive comportment to the President’s incredible double speak, the leaders sat there like school kids listening to a stern mathematics teacher!

Was it a consensus building and bonding session? Negative. To those opposed to party assimilation and dissolution, it was more like a torture chamber! They had to sit there and listen to a shouting Deputy President giving ultimatums and consequences of not joining ‘Tuko pamoja’. As if that was not nauseating enough, the President came up with a theory that the new outfit was going to change how electoral politics is done.

The President went on to tell those leaders that in dissolving the Jubilee affiliate parties and joining his new reelection outfit, Kenyans were going to see the end of electoral politics as they know it. His new outfit is going to usher in political party stability. There is just one problem with that statement: er, Mr President, we already have the largest party in Kenya called ODM, a party that has managed to weather political storms and remained intact while political mutations and coercion have dominated the other side of the divide.

Mr President, you are not offering anything new, after all, Presidents running for reelection only care about reelection! Kibaki’s PNU was a concoction of other parties designed just to get Kibaki a second term( Which he lost to RAO). If in doubt, where are those 43 PNU MPs who made it to parliament in 2007 ?

The President is simply trying to convince people that they need to wear belts and suspenders at the same time! But the body language of those politicians told a different story.

Those who chose the party symbol and motto did a huge disservice to their course! For starters, the much maligned ‘Kusema na Kutenda,’ predictably turned out to be a colossal let down and now this? Eti ‘Tuko Pamoja?’ Nyinyi na nani na wakenya wanaumia? Uchumi umezoroteka, Kina yakhe wanalia, usalama umeadimika, wanainchi wengi wanaelekea jongomeo! Serikali haijui be wala te! Ufisadi umenoga! Na mengineo.

Lastly, the symbol is the kicker! A depiction of arm-wrestling is a fitting metaphor for a regime that has consistently treated wanainchi to a lot of taunting, intimidation and poor governance. They arm twisted the legislature to pass draconian laws that included the media and security laws. They arm twisted the nation’s teachers into submission despite the national outcry and the disrupted school timetable. They ignored court’s decisions and muscled their way on every front except service delivery! This is the most muscular regime of all time and for them to choose arm wrestling as a symbol, I can’t agree more!
