BUT WHILE concluding this, I must make a point for our Deputy President. Its clear that his attitude towards Cord leaders in general and Raila Odinga is particular is very condescending and dismissive. I thought to myself early this morning that if Jubilee and Cord were to go to real serious discussions/negotiations of any kind, the DP would feel very offended.
Apparently the mutual respect between Raila and Uhuru is very noticeable even in their choice of words. The only problem is that anything the DP says about Raila/Cord and the tone in which he says it is not only decoded or noticed by Cord but also by the Uhuru Kenyatta wing of Jubilee (the TNA/Mt Kenya wing). They discuss it among themselves and they take a common stand. And in due course, their build-up feelings about the DP will come out and it will be unanimous.
WHEN AND IF Raila Odinga retires after 2017, the Mt Kenya Region will create another person/ fear factor to make them wake up at 3AM to vote against. I need not say more on who that person/ fear factor will be.

We must not forget why we in the political opposition decided to hold our Madaraka Day celebrations.
It is because in the last state celebrations, we often became objects of derision by President Uhuru and his guests, key among whom was Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni.
We endured being insulted in our own country, on a day we proclaim the very heroism of our citizens, past and present.
Our expectation had been that we resolve our internal political issues in other forums and reserve national holidays for unity and commemoration of who we are and what we have achieved as a commonwealth.
Yet these were not always the case.
The point we are making today is that whenever a president thinks we are not part of his countrymen, we have the right to assemble somewhere else and stake the very citizenship that guarantees our being here.
Now, we know why jubilee has been peddling the invitation they extended to the opposition. It is because they no longer attract their usual friends. It is because Museveni is no longer available and Kenya is no longer a force to reckon with in East Africa. So they are inviting us to go fill the seats and help them save face.
There was a particular Madaraka Day Raila Odinga attended as a citizen and sat on the terraces. He wasn’t invited. I think it was at Nyayo Stadium. What did Uhuru men do? They started playing a propaganda Kibera slum documentary. It was the height of Anne Waiguru’s arrogance before we fell her.
Then they unleashed Museveni to shit-talk. We endured these things. However, though we forgave, it would have been idiotic on our part to forget.
As good students; we learnt our lesson, which was; that Jubilee is not interested in the national project.
Today at Uhuru Park, we will celebrate another triumph of freedom from Jubilee.
Until they recognize that Kenya is bigger than Jubilee and that a state function is markedly different from a jubilee rally, we in CORD will keep our distance, and do our things, our way.
Anyone with a contrary opinion can take the next Matatu to Afraha. Donge?

As promised I yesterday, today accompanied by Senator Emma and the family of Mary Kibwana Kamango, we held talks with the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed over the case of Mary who suffered an arsonist attack by her employer JALAL NEMER AHMUD while working in Jordan, in the Middle East.
The CS convened the meeting upon my request after I drew Mary’s case to her attention and she promptly arranged for a meeting at her office which lasted for three hours. It was finally agreed that the matter be handled diplomatically and CS Amina delegated Amb. Tom Amollo the political and Diplomatic secretary in the ministry to act immediately.
The resolutions of the meeting were captured through a protest letter to the Jordanian Government and which will be delivered through Kenya’s Ambassador since Jordan does not have an embassy or consulate in Nairobi.
In the protest letter, the Kenya Government demanded that Kenyans working there be treated in an humane manner, better pay and favourable working environment. We further demanded legal action to be taken against Mary’s employer and further compensation for Mary.
Following the quick intervention by the CS, I wish to plead with fellow Kenyans that the matter is now being handled in a government-to-government process and we shall be keeping you posted of all the progress.
I wish on behalf of Mary’s family, the people of Nairobi and on my own behalf to sincerely thank Amb. Amina and her team in the ministry for her quick intervention.

PRESS STATEMENT BY CORD
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
We take note of a statement issued on behalf of Inspector General of Police a few minutes ago purporting to request the CORD Coalition to consider holding it rally elsewhere other than Uhuru Park grounds on the basis that they will be covering a multiplicity of events but more importantly that they will be providing security to two visiting heads of state.
We wish to draw the attention of the police to the orders issued by the High Court this afternoon and which orders are well within their knowledge since we have served them with copies of the said order. More particularly we wish to draw their attention to order 4 whish directs thus
“That the Inspector General of Police is hereby directed to ensure that there is sufficient security for those attending the rally and those going about their businesses”
As a coalition we intend to abide by the court order in its entirety and therefore reassure our supporters that we will hold our rally at Uhuru Park tomorrow from 9am. It is now evident to all Kenyans that the police have since the beginning set out on a path to frustrate the coalition from holding its rally.
We have no doubt that the police have adequate personnel as evidenced in the manner they have dealt with the anti-IEBC demos to effectively provide security to all Madaraka day activities. It is also our considered view that the police were all along aware that the country will be hosting the two visiting heads of state and never bothered to raise this matter from the very day CORD notified of its intention to hold a rally at Uhuru Park.
In the premise, we are persuaded that the police request is actuated with malice, bad faith and is made too late to be considered. The request is therefore firmly declined.
The upshot of it is that CORD will proceed with its planned rally at Uhuru Park tomorrow as decreed by court. The police should provide security as directed
