CRISIS OFFERS ALL A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR CHANGING STRATEGY FOR DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE
This regime’s lawless behaviour continues unabated, as if nothing really changed on January 9th. Its latest outrage of scorning multiple court orders explicitly instructing it to restore Miguna’s nationality and facilitating his re-entry home, and then treating him abusively in full view of the world’s cameras, shows Jubilee is incorrigibly dedicated to pursuing impunity, and cannot be trusted.
Raila traveled the proverbial infinite mile and showed Kenyans and the world he cared more for peace and the possibility of rectifying our profound ailments by putting aside all personal ambition as well as the trauma and pain inflicted by having been denied the presidency he had won three times in a row.
On March 9th Raila took a giant step for a much better Kenya even though he knew he could lose a huge chunk of his impassioned base which was convinced that only confronting this regime offered the prospect of national salvation. How many politicians in the world would risk such a loss?
It is not enough to condemn this latest Jubilee outrage. This crisis offers the last opportunity for all leaders to reasses the strategy Kenya needs to restore the rule of law and democratic, inclusive governance.

MY BBC INTERVIEW ON MIGUNA: THE ISSUES ALSO INCLUDE A DETERMINED CITIZENRY AND ATTEMPTS TO UNDERMINE RAILA
I just had a top of the hour interview with the BBC World Service about Miguna’s second deportation. I made sure that listeners knew that more than Miguna was at stake in this growing crisis.
I was very pleased see that the two BBC interviewers were following the Miguna saga closely, and they themselves said they were astounded by the level of impunity and lawless actions of three three very senior government officials, despite strong high court orders regarding Miguna Miguna. They wondered what Kenyans were making of this.
I said Kenyans are hardly surprised by the lawless behaviour, as they have experienced much worse since the election period, including the torture and murder of chief election officer Chris Msando the day he said on TV that he would ensure the August election vote was counted honestly. The election was subsequently so utterly rigged that the Supreme Court courageously annulled it – which led to the Justices being abused and threatened by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
I also said that Miguna was a very popular leader, but his persecution was also linked to other key dynamics, the most important of which was that for the first time in our history it is an aroused and mobilized citizenry that is leading the drive for change, rather popular leaders who enjoy the people’s support. It was this mass movement that had scared the daylights out of the often-murderous regime elites which control the state.
These groups, I said, are therefore trying desperately to crush this people’s movement and the challenge it poses to their hold on Kenya. They are also determined to undermine Raila who has led the reform movement for years and who unexpectedly agreed to a very risky accord with President Uhuru Kenyatta to tackle our deep-rooted ills, and at the same reduce the unrest, instability, ethnic tensions and sharply reduced economic activity that was racking Kenya.
Sections of the powerful wanted to deport Miguna again to paint Raila as having no power to influence political life in Kenya.
I was asked if Raila under these circumstances was worried about the accord’s implementation. I said of course he was.

Exclusive: MP Jaguar, Nairobi MCA behind attack on CBD public toilets
Police have finally unmasked the politicians behind the attack on Nairobi City County toilets on Thursday night in the Central Business District.
Starehe MP Charles Kanyi, aka Jaguar and Nairobi Central Ward MCA, Daniel Ngengi Muturi, have been named as the leaders behind the shameful incident where over 100 hired goons invaded and attempted to forcefully take over the management of public toilets within CBD.
After the Thursday night incident police and City Hall Askaris arrested 14 of the hired goons who are being held at the Central Police station and are set to appear in Court on Tuesday.
According to detectives at Central Police station, the goons have named Jaguar and the Nairobi Central Ward MCA as their financiers.
“The two politicians want to take over the public toilets and ensure they get the revenue collected from the public toilets,” said a police officer at the Central Police Station.
Jaguar has been fighting City Hall since last year after he moved to court to challenge the ban of boda boda operators in Nairobi’s CBD, but he terribly lost the case.
Justice Roselyn Aburili dismissed the case and also hit out at Jaguar, accusing him of using the boda boda issue to gain political mileage.
“You must not pawn the riders for political gain. You should not create any legitimate expectations in the minds of the riders that they will not enforce after the election,” she said.
Justice Aburilu also told Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to enforce the law decisively if he intends to eradicate the rot in the city and restore it’s former glory.

It has now emerged that a cartel at Harambee House working in collaboration with a section of the media edited Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s speech during a Sunday service to portray him negatively towards Central Kenya voters
In his speech during the event at PCEA Evergreen Church in Runda, Governor Sonko called on politicians to respect Mt Kenya voters as we head to the pre-2022 campaigns.
Sonko started the speech by elaborating how he managed to defeat former Nairobi Mayor Dick Wathika in the Makadara Constituency by election in 2010, after majority of Kikuyus in the constituency voted for him. The governor also explained how his 2013 victory as Senator of Nairobi was boosted by voters who hail from Central Kenya.
The Governor further added that his 2017 win in the gubernatorial race against Evans Kidero and Peter Kenneth was largely boosted by the Kikuyu voting block in Nairobi.

The biggest problem with my friend Miguna Miguna is that he does not listen. I have talked to all his lawyers. Contrary to what they are saying in public, in private they have given him the right advice but he wont listen (I dare them to contradict me) . So Wuod Nyando has 3 options
Option 1
Fill in and sign the citizenship regularisation papers. Send them to Kenya. I hereby offer myself to take them to Nairobi and bring them back here in Dubai, process his exit visa and return with him back to Kenya.
Option 2
Proceed with his flight to Nairobi but pre-sign his instant visa application form and surrender his Canadian Passport to the authorities. This way he can be in Runda tomorrow afternoon
Option 3:
Prepare to be holed up in his Dubai hotel for the next 36 months. These guys have the money to keep you around for that long

Many of us must have at one time or another watched in dismay as a man ruthlessly beat up his wife or children in public. No matter how justified the man may be in his actions and no matter how grievous the evil the culprit may have committed, the drama never leaves the passerby with any sense of admiration for such a man.
Rarely would you esteem him as a man of high values who simply cannot tolerate evil in his house. To the contrary, such drama leaves one with the impression of a man who has totally lost control of the leadership and management of his house.
Furthermore, when a man behaves thus, it greatly undermines his dignity and status in the sight of observers. He likewise exposes his children and other members of his family to an undeserved public ridicule.
That seems to be the case with the recent drama over Miguna. For security forces to spend almost two hours trying to force a Kenyan into an aircraft belonging to a foreign airline – most likely packed with foreigners from around the world – left many not feeling too proud to be a Kenyan. It appeared like whoever was in charge of the operation had lost control, dropped professionalism and entered into a bare-knuckle fight in public with one lone individual. One then is forced to wonder what loss the government in particular, and the country at large would have suffered if Miguna had simply been allowed back into the country and whisked to the nearest police station to await arraignment in court for whatever crimes he had committed.
Yet, if the Miguna drama was embarrassing, the attacks on journalists was totally uncalled for. The media serves as the eyes and ears of society. When security forces turn on the media with utter ferocity, it gives the chilling impression that things are getting out of hand. In the Miguna case it shows that even those directly engaged in the fight were not proud of themselves or of their actions. Something in their inner conscience must have told them that whatever was happening was not only ugly but also not right, and thus should be kept from public eyes and ears. No wonder they turned onto the media with brute force. Sadly, this is a continuing trend, but one that must not be allowed to take root. Without a robust media, we will be like a people fighting in a dark room, where anything is possible.
But which way forward? Rejected this advice A sad but interesting story is recorded in the Bible about one of Israel’s kings. After the death of King Solomon, Rehoboam his son succeeded him as king. A group came to him to seek relief from the heavy yoke that his father Solomon had apparently placed upon them. Rehoboam consulted the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime, as to how he should respond to these people. Their advice was simple, “If you will be kind to these people and please them and give them a favourable answer, they will always be your servants.” Unfortunately, Rehoboam rejected this advice and instead consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him. The young men replied, “Now tell them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist. My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.’” Thus, the king ignored the advice of the elders and obliged the young men.
Looking at some recent actions by some government officials, it seems like they may be getting advice from some hot-blooded young men, who appear to believe in the use of the yoke and the scorpion to subdue citizens. Unfortunately, for better or for worse, it is becoming increasingly difficult in Kenya to use the yoke and the scorpion to subdue citizens without injuring your own self. Instead, the season we are in, it is the wise leader who heeds the elders’ counsel to Rehoboam. For sure, there are some of us that are most certainly deserving of the yoke and scorpion. They are irritants who are forever getting under the skin of everyone, not least the government. But, even in such cases, great tact is required. Otherwise, you end up not only embarrassing yourself as a leader, but also inadvertently exposing the whole nation to unnecessary ridicule in the global scene.
