Safaricom Digging A Wide Deep Grave

Safaricom recently increased the price for Big Box lowest 5GB data bundle from KShs 1,199 to KShs 1,999 without any communication to subscribers or reasonable justification seeing that internet costs are declining daily. I actually envision a time when internet will be free.

With KShs 2,000 you get 15GB data with both Airtel and Telkom Kenya. With Faiba 4G internet you get 40GB for KShs 2,000. KShs 1,000 gives you 25GB of 4G Faiba internet. The only challenges with Faiba being the possible need for a new device as most do not support its network band and also their limited coverage.

While there is no doubt that Safaricom has superior network reliability and wide coverage as well as good customer care other players are catching up fast.

Many claim that Safaricom is unbeatable for many years to come but I believe they will soon start ceding market share to competing network operators and mobile money service providers.

Today it is way cheaper to send money using your bank’s mobile banking service than with MPesa. Airtel and Telkom Kenya recently received their 4G licenses and will soon be rolling services countrywide. Internet based mobile loan providers such as Branch and Tala are also giving Safaricom a run for its money. Currently, we have 25 digital credit providers in the Kenyan market.

Safaricom continues to act with arrogance and to overcharge their customers because of their superior network. This is a poor strategy because it is very easy to replicate technological advantages as opposed to customer loyalty and good relationships.

When other operators match Safaricom technologically, we will not forget how Safaricom behaved when advantage was on their side. Safaricom has a lot to learn from the Barclays and Stanchart’s of this world.

2. Go back to Senior Counsel James Orengo application before Judge Odunga to have the State Facilitate the travel of TWO lawyers to Dubai to ” offer legal support to Miguna”

3. UAE told the Canadian Consulate General in Dubai to speak to Miguna and there were two options – Produce Canadian passport which was his travelling document or Jail.

4. Canadian official broke the news to Miguna over 24 hours ago and he was given deadline dated today.

5. Miguna organized for his passport to be delivered

6. At 10pm last night he was out of Dubai to Toronto, Canada.

Confirming the obvious, Miguna did not travel with an ID.

Way Forward

1. Check into Kenyan High Commission in Canada and fill relevant forms – or do it online

2. Fly back to Nairobi with Canadian Passport and agree to Visa condition for entry. Then process relevant documents from Kenyan soil – Huduma Centre would be of help

3. Like Justice Lenaola said in his 2014 decision on Citizenship, ” Dual Citizenship cannot be acquired by a petition to court at the first instance, the procudure for doing so is well set out in Section 8 of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, cap 172.”

4. Justice Lenaola added, ” To argue that section 97 of the repealed Constitution is irrelevant is to ignore section 7 of the 6th Schedule to the Constitution. To further argue that applicable law pre-2010 is irrelevant to the determination of Citizenship today is MISCHIEVIOUS and MISGUIDED.

BREAKING: Miguna Kicked Out Of Dubai, Deported To Canada, Escorted By UAE Police, Forced To Board !

Reports have emerged that he boarded the plane while under the escort of UAE police.

The self-declared NRM Kenya general was heard expressing his intention to sue Emirates Airlines for taking him back to Dubai against his will.

Miguna was forced into a Dubai-bound plane by Kenyan authorities on March 28 after he was denied entry into the country.

A court had ordered that he be facilitated to acquire a passport so as to attend hearings.

On Sunday, Miguna hailed what he termed “the professional and humane side of the United Arab Emirates exhibits itself.”
This was after Sheikh Khalid, a senior government official, escorted him to get proper medical tests and treatment. Turns out it was a trick.

He accused Kenyan police of “barbaric assault, torture and chemical poisoning.”

On Saturday night he was advised to leave Canada, watch video below.

Top TV Anchor Larry Madowo Lands New Job At BBC As Africa Business Editor To Be Based In Nairobi

Larry Madowo the popular TV anchor that quit NTV last week has landed a super bigger job with an international reputable media house the BBC.
The BBC, a British media giant is funded by the British government. Madowo will be in charge of business coverage for the Africa region.

Madowo, known for speaking his mind, will join a pool of other Kenyan journalists that BBC as assembled in its bid to strengthens her presence in Kenya. The team will be based at it new offices at Riverside in Nairobi where it had built its new studios.

Not sure though how Larry will survive without a TV appearance, now a friend has advised him to run a show independently and syndicate it to to several media houses.

Governor Joho Returns From Official Trip Overseas With Bag Full Of Goodies

The last time the Governor was in Dubai for an official trip the Coast Provincial General hospital was equipped with one of a kind facilities including a modern ICU and HDU that can accommodate a number of patients at the same time. Away from that, let’s dissect the benefits of his two-week visit to Europe;

The county signed an agreement with “Let’s Do It Foundation LDIF, a grassroots organisation based in Tallin, Estonia’s capital to ensure synergy on policies geared towards solid waste management. Atleast all of us can agree that our solid waste management system is a challenge that can no longer be overlooked. Unless we exchange ideas with countries that have successfully defeated this monster, all our efforts bear no fruits.

The governor and his entourage discussed tourism with Estonian officials. They shared mutual security challenges and how to face them. The fruitful discussion promoted Mombasa as the host for 79th SKAL World Congress 2018. Talk of an opportunity to sell the beauty of our city.

The Governor then travelled to Berlin Germany to actualize it. He met Germany officials and attended the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) congress, the world’s largest trade show. He then held discussions with SKAL International’s president Sussana Saari at the ITB Berlin.

ITB is the world’s largest tourism and trade show and attracts players from top tourism destinations from around the world, Mombasa being one of them he could not afford to miss. In this conference a lot of enquiries were made by many countries including Germany, Israel, United Kingdom, USA, UAE among others.

Joho later flew to Dubai to have a chat with some investors until yesterday.
