Breaking: Police arrests terror suspect in Narok after escaping first attempt

Police in Narok are holding a terror suspect arrested on Saturday morning wanting to access Narok Stadium amid Madaraka Day celebrations.

A police statement seen by the Nairobi News says Adan Galhai alias Urisha Galhai, 22, was first arrested by military officers on Friday night but escaped.

The statement said Galhai was first apprehended while trying to get into stadium

“He wanted to enter the stadium yesterday and when searched, his national identity card and another [ID] written ‘National Security’ were recovered from him,” police said.

“When he was being questioned, he escaped.”

SECOND ATTEMPT

The statement said that Galhai was rearrested on Saturday morning while making another attempt to get into the stadium.

Blow to DP Ruto, allies as Uhuru abolishes 1000 notes, to be returned by October 1st

The Central Bank of Kenya has said old Ksh.1000 notes should be out of circulation by October 1 this year.

Speaking when he unveiled the new legal tender at the Madaraka Day celebrations in Narok, CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge said the move is intended to fight counterfeit practises.

“All the older Ksh.1000 series shall be withdrawn. All persons have until October 1, 2019 to exchange these notes, after which the older ones will cease to be legal tender,” he said.

He said the CBK has completed the process of generating the new notes and they are already in circulation.

The front of the bank notes bear the image of the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).
According to Article 231 (4) of the Constitution: “Notes and coins issued by the Central Bank of Kenya may bear images that depict or symbolise Kenya or an aspect of Kenya but shall not bear the portrait of any individual.”

A dove is also shown to symbolise a peaceful Kenya, the CBK says adding that the designs are easier to spot for those with vision impairment.

To determine authenticity of the new notes, Kenyans are urged to hold up a note to the light and check for a watermark from both sides.

The watermark is of a lion’s head and a security thread appears as a continuous line.

According to the CBK guidelines: “If you tilt the angle, you will see the security thread changes colour from red to green on all bank notes. The 200, 500 and 1000 bank notes have additional rainbow colours on the thread.”

The golden band on the back shows the note value.

Central bank of kenya has launched a new notes for the Kenyan currency.
The central bank governor has said that 1000 shillings notes to be withdrawn.
October 1st set as the deadline for submission of the 1000 shilling note.

DP Ruto ashamed, Crowd goes frenzy for Raila in Naroka

Kenya has two Presidents, Uhuru Kenyatta, the head of government and head of state and His Peckness Raila Odinga, the man who was sworn in as the duly elected people’s president.

Now, DP William Ruto recently caused a stir when he revealed that they will send Raila’s CV to the UK, so that he can be considered for the vacant position of Prime Minister to replace embattled Theresa May.

According to Ruto, Raila is a retired PM here in Kenya, and since the position was abolished from the constitution, he might need to use his experience elsewhere because he will not get it back any time soon.

“We have a retired PM, and because our constitution scrapped the position, we can send you his CV…,” the DP said during the National Prayer Breakfast at Safaripark hotel on Thursday.

Ruto’s joke was in response to another by Lord Micheal Hasting, the day’s keynote speaker. However, it instead sparked the all too familiar political fury: “I am sure you know the turmoil in our country…do you have a spare prime minister?,” asked Lord Hasting in jest.

But is Raila Odinga really a retired Prime Minister?

On Saturday, the whole nation was switched to the Madaraka Day Celebrations that were held at Narok Stadium in Narok County. President Uhuru Kenyatta led the government and other leaders among them Ruto and Raila Odinga in celebrating the Day Kenya earned its internal self-rule.

As it has been a norm since the new constitution came into being, only the President and his Deputy speak at National events. This means that people like Raila Odinga do not get the chance to speak.

Interestingly, Raila still got the loudest cheer when his name was mentioned in Narok on Saturday. Wananchi in Narok embarrassed Ruto as he stood to speak and mention everyone at the function. They cheered when Raila’s name was mentioned.

We hope Ruto will not try to donate the people’s president after what happened in Narok.
