Gov. Waititu freed after paying 15 million cash bail

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, who is facing corruption charges over Sh588 million irregular road tender, on Thursday morning walked to temporary freedom.

Mr Waititu was set free after paying Sh15 million bail even as his application seeking a review of his release terms will be heard Friday.

He had spent four nights at the Industrial Area Remand Prison in the capital Nairobi.

His lawyers said the bail was paid on Wednesday evening but approved on Thursday morning after source of the money was declared and accepted by the bank.

Jubilee mp humiliated, stoned and chased away

It was a dark day for Tarbaj MP, Ahmed Bashane, after he was stoned and jeered at by angry residents who rejected desks that he was distributing at Mansa Primary School.

Residents stated that the MP had neglected them and often favoured some individuals when it came to awarding contracts in the constituency as The Star reports.

The irate residents had to be calmed down by the National Police Reservists in Tarbaj, who shot in the air to disperse them after an attempt by the MP to calm them down failed.

A local leader in the area, Mude Hussein, stated that the MP never visited the area and rarely listened to residents’ problems.

“We only see you visiting other areas to initiate development projects and distributing bursary cheques,” the MP was told.

Bashane was quickly driven off the scene as residents threatened to burn a lorry that was carrying the items meant for donation.

In a similar incident that took place in June, Molo MP, Kimani Kuria, arrived at a function while drunk, angering area residents who threatened to rough him up.

The MP had been invited to the meeting that was aimed at discussing the illicit brews menace in the area.

According to witnesses, murmurs about his drunkenness were confirmed when he staggered after he was invited to the podium to address the congregation.

Safaricom to expand M-PESA to increase revenue

Safaricom interim CEO Michael Joseph has revealed his plan to take the firm to the next level.

Joseph, who took over Kenya’s top telecom operator following the demise of Guyanese-born Bob Collymore, said that he is determined to transform it during the short period he will be serving as the acting CEO pending appointment of the permanent boss.

Joseph has said that he will be working on the expansion of the M-Pesa section to ensure the firm generates more profits.

He noted that the mobile financial service has been performing well, adding that he intends to make it even better following his appointment in the acting capacity.

Joseph was the predecessor of Safaricom, which is part of Britain’s Vodafone and South Africa’s Vodacom, before his left for Collymore.

“I’m particularly keen to work closely with the team to take M-Pesa beyond Kenya,” Joseph said in a statement.

M-Pesa has grown over the years since it was initiated by the mobile service provider. It now allows customers to send, borrow as well as save their earnings using their mobile phones anywhere.

The firm has been facing stiff competition from companies such as Airtel and Telkom, which have since announced a merger.

Government offers internship to graduates, assured monthly stipends

In line with the government’s initiative to expose graduates and students to working experience and job markets, the Public Service Commission has announced internship opportunities available in different departments for a period of 12 months.

Jobless graduates are advised to apply the positions as this will enable them acquire knowledge and gain some working experience.

On the notice, it is indicated that there will be monthly stipends for every graduate who will secure the position.

Here are the requirements and qualifications you need to know:

1. The candidate must be proficient in computer skills

2. He or she should be eager to learn the operations of public services

3. Should have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised institutions

4. Have graduated from college not earlier than year 2015.

The duties and responsibilities include;

1. Completing duties mutually agreed upon and assigned by supervisors

2. Documenting the relevant skills acquired in their relevant deployments.

3. Actively participating in activities designed for the purpose of mentorship

Upon completion of the program, every intern will given a certificate.

Interested candidate are requested to email their details to the addresses featured on the notice.

The deadline scheduled for applying these positions is 16, August 2019.

Homa-bay MCA wins KTN’s ms president

Kenya landed it’s first ‘female president’ after Nereah Amondi Oketch bagged the Ms President crown in KTN’s reality show on Wednesday night.

Nereah, a Member of the Homa Bay County County Assembly, trumped four other worthy finalists, to become to take the crown.

The charismatic candidate was quick to point out that each and every one of the participants had emerged as winners in their own unique ways.

“We all have a journey and we are all winners,” she remarked.

One of the show’s favourites, Umulkheir Mohammed from Garissa County, came in a close second, in the show that captured the attention of the nation.

The five finalists, Waruguru Wa Kiai, Umulkheir Mohammed, Betty Adera, Oketch and Irene Mayaka were all present at the Catholic Unversity of East Africa, for the grand finale.

A team from the European Commission and parliamentarians were also present at the colourful gala.

The finalists were whittled down from an initial pool of over 1000 women who had signed up for the chance to be named Ms President.

Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta invited the five finalists of the reality show to the podium, during the grand opening of the Bidco Industrial Park in Ruiru.

Uhuru explained that he had asked them to accompany him to the launch to give them a practical touch of the duties of a president.

We cant declare cancer a national disaster- CS Sicily Kariuki

Kenya may be unable to deal with cancer even if the government decides to declare the disease a national disaster.

This is because the country has neither enough cancer specialists nor diagnostic and treatment equipment, experts from a professional association of cancer specialists have said.

And the government is yet to be sufficiently convinced that the crisis is of national disaster proportion. According to Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, the data available is insufficient to make such a call.

According to Ms Kariuki, for the country to reach a point of declaring cancer a national disaster, there has to be sufficient, scientific and solid data built over a period time.

“I have sat with my teams including the experts and it is not that I am not sensitive and for us to be able to reach that point there are several things that need to be looked into,” she said.
