We all want to mourn our late Bro Hon. Ken Okoth and respect his family especially the mother. Ken was a diligent leader who did everything to uplift the lives of Kibra constituents and Nairobi in general.

However, even as we mourn, we are cognizant of the fact that Ken had a son with one of the nominated Nairobi County Assembly (MCA) members by the name Ann Thumbi alias Anita. The two love birds did not hide the fact that they shared a son.

Unfortunately today, Anita was stopped at the Lee funeral home as she took their son to pay last respect to his father. Who does that?

Inspite of denials from some members of the family, it’s clear that Ken recognized and was there for his son as demonstrated by pictures and various documented correspondences. On 5th of July 2019, as the Governor of Nairobi, I received a text from one of Anita’s colleagues who said Anita was emotionally down and worried about the health of her son’s father, Hon. Ken Okoth.

The MP out of paternal love of his son had reportedly called her to ask her to take care of their son. She then appealed to me to help them fly to Paris to visit the ailing Ken after ambassador Judy Wakhungu posted a picture of the late MP in a Paris hospital. On the 6th I obliged to her appeal and asked them to send me copies of their passports. I proceeded to pay two tickets for the two to travel and also booked a hotel in Paris.

, A few days later, as we waited for their Visa processing, MCA Doris, a colleague of Anita, sent me a text saying Hon. Okoth had returned to Kenya but appeared very weak. Thus the Paris trip aborted.

My humble appeal is that even as we prepare to bury Ken, let’s not forget his son. He too needs and has a RIGHT to participate in the send-off of his beloved dad. As such, it’s our duty to protect the right of the child.

As a leader, I offer my support to the family of the late Ken as they undergo a difficult moment of mourning a husband, a father, a son, a brother. The family should accept Hon.Okoth’s son enjoys legal protection and recognition

Hilarious : 3 missed calls that made Gov. Laboso’s husband Edwin Abonyo shiver

The late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso’s husband, Edwin Abonyo, on Thursday, narrated how President Uhuru Kenyatta’s calls sent shivers down his spine.

Speaking at the memorial service of his wife, Abonyo recalled that sometime in the past, he had put his phone on silent mode when President Kenyatta decided to call him.

He would later find out from his call logs that Uhuru had tried to reach him three times.

“There is a time he called when I had put my phone on silent. Then I came and found three missed calls. I’ve never sweat like that in my life,” Abonyo told mourners.

“I didn’t know what to do. How do I get to this man?” he wondered.

After failed attempts to return the president’s call, Laboso’s husband decided to try his luck with Uhuru’s secretary who told him she was already home from work.

Abonyo pleaded with her to help him reach the president and she encouraged him to keep trying and finally, he was able to speak to Uhuru.

The late governor’s husband also acknowledged Deputy President William Ruto’s support during the time the deceased was ill.

“At the point of going to India, it is him we talked with. He said ‘no no no you can’t come back to Kenya. You can’t give up my brother you can’t give up’.

“Convey my message to the president, he’s not here but I do hope I’ll be able to meet him,” Abonyo concluded.

Ken Okoth should be buried according to Luo customs and traditions- Hon. Khalwale

Former Kakamega Senator, Boni Khalwale, on Thursday, found himself on the receiving end following remarks he made online regarding the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s burial.

Taking to Twitter, the politician argued that Okoth’s family went against the Luo culture when they settled on cremating the leader.

He further termed the practice as alien, disturbing and distasteful.

“Simple, mheshimiwa’s (honourable member’s) burial should accord with the rich Luo culture at his father’s home complete with ‘terro buro’.

“Cremation is alien, disturbing and distasteful. It dates from 17,000 years ago and cannot, therefore, be mistaken for modernism,” he posted.

A number of Kenyans were, however, not impressed by Khalwale’s views arguing that he did not understand the Luo culture as much as he thought.

“Culture, culture, culture… Let those talking of culture especially Luos show you if their six lower teeth are removed. Culture has been overtaken by events,” posted Allan Sule.

Others schooled the former lawmaker that even the burial he was campaigning for was not a part of African traditions.

“Mheshimiwa, even burial isn’t African, it was imposed on us by the colonialists just like cremation was brought by Asians… Before, we used to dump our loved ones when they die in the forest…Whichever way Hon. Ken is laid to rest its none of our business,” argued another user.

“Burying is also ancient and unafrican, our forefathers used to throw away corpses to be eaten by wild animals,” added Romano Githangu.

Fake PR photo lands DP Ruto, wife in trouble with netizens

A photo of Deputy President William Ruto’s handshake with his wife, Rachael Ruto, has sparked a debate about domestic relations.

The controversial image (above), which was posted on Racheal’s Facebook page, has since been deleted.

In the photo, Rachael is seen extending her hand to Ruto and bowing as she welcomed him to launch the National Prayer Altar at his official residence in Karen.

Kenyans on social media raised questions about the photo and discourse was started with respect to Rachael’s gesture.

A section of members of the public suggested that such a gesture showed unhealthy dominance in a domestic set up.

“No. A husband should be hugged sio kusalimiwa hivi kama in-law (not being greeted like an in-law),” commented Juliet Musyoka.

Others maintained that a woman who greeted her husband, in the same way, showed humility and respect.

“Please leave Mrs Ruto do what she desires, to show respect to her husband,” posted Isha Muchomba.

Eve Shorayi, on the other hand, stated that “She looks too artificial in her greeting.”

A hawk-eyed netizen noticed that Ruto did not maintain eye contact with his wife as the DP was focused on greeting the next person in line, Reverend Teresa Wairimu.

The photo also sparked memories of a previous image the DP took with his daughter, Stephanie Jepchumba, during her graduation, where he pocketed his hands as she hugged him.

Am ready to step aside to allow EACC complete their investigations- Gov. Sonko

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, has declared his willingness to step aside from his office, following a summon to appear at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commissions (EACC) headquarter, Valley Road, Nairobi.

The governor has been called up to record a statement on graft allegations he made against Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Passaris.

“I want to categorically state that, in the event it is established that I have a case to answer before the law, I am ready to step aside to allow the EACC complete investigations and determination of the matter,” he affirmed.

“I will be honouring the said summons by individually presenting myself to Integrity Centre immediately after the ongoing Memorial Services of my colleague, the late Bomet Governor, Dr. Joyce Laboso and the late Mp for Kibra Hon. Ken Okoth,” he added.

Back on June 10, 2019, the Woman Rep had challenged Sonko to present evidence backing his claims of her alleged corruption to the EACC, adding that she was seeking legal action against the governor.

Sonko, during an interview on Citizen TV, had accused Passaris of claiming double per diem from the county government and Parliament.

Director Communications Governor Press Service & Media Chief Officer Nairobi County, Jacob Elkana, affirmed the summon orders, adding that the governor would adhere to the call.

Sonko, through his communication director also made it clear that he would furnish the EACC officers with all the evidence he had gathered, maintaining that he would not relent in his fight to root out corruption in his county.

It was during Sonko’s controversial interview on JKLive, which was cut short by the stations’ producers due to controversy, that he laid out several accusations against the legislator.

“There is this per diem for my Woman Rep Esther Muthoni Passaris for Ksh 400,000 of which I have not paid and I will not pay. Why, because this per diem was paid by the National Assembly,” the governor explained during the interview.

During the same interview, the Nairobi governor alleged that Passaris had been soliciting huge sums of money from him, including Ksh300 Million to help him settle a petition challenging his election as the governor.
