One of the earliest Nollywood Movies that I enjoyed in the early aughts, was Fugitive, starring Ramsey Noah (no doubt the G.O.A.T) and Genevive (the most beautiful African woman), Rita Dominic, Alex Osifo et al.

In the movie, Ramsey Noah’s girl friend dies in an apparent drug overdose if my memory serves me right. Too bad she was the daughter of either the Attorney General or Chief Justice of the country and Noah was to be jailed for a long time had he not been rescued by some compassionate lawyer. In turn the lawyer’s daughter had a thing for Noah but that is besides the point.

Why I bring up this, is because, sometimes life throws at us certain responsibilities that are difficult to bear. Being the last person to see someone before they die is a huge responsibility. Worse, if the death is under controversial circumstances. The scene where Noah is trying to urge the girlfriend to wake up stuck in my head permanently. He is so innocent about it, oblivious that she is dead.

And his life took a sudden change for worse, even though it is just a movie.

Every day, when you wake up, you don’t know what life may throw at you. You may conceive a future president or Hitler from a sexual encounter you didn’t even enjoy. You may be a hero who rescues school children from a shooter. You may win the lottery. Such unpredictability is what intimidates us as human beings as much as it gives us hope.

What I know if daily, you set out to do the right thing, you pray, and you carry with you a genuine heart, you don’t have to fear what life may throw your way.

Lastly, here are my quick thoughts about Cheryl.
1. They did not have to reveal the name and the face of Cheryl.

2. If as she says that was the first time she was meeting JJ, it goes to show how fickle life is and how just one decision, one moment, one, one day, one thing can suddenly change your life, for better or for worse. She didn’t when she went to meet him that she will enter into the imaginations of Kenya, in a not-so-good way. But I hope she will forgive herself, her family and friends will be able to support her and stand with her to remind her, whatever happened may never have been her fault, she just happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time and for presumably wring reasons.

3. We still judge women, yet in such things it takes two to tango. I will blame the man, who is older and wiser in this case.

4. Everything is never what it seems. In murder investigations, the most obvious lead, is never the right lead (7 out of 10).

5. Murder is wrong. Karma is real. Those who live by the sword, die by the sword. There are a million creative ways of handling or containing individuals. Murder is really primitive.

6. Reading widely helps. Fiction. Non-fiction. It offers you a wide array of ideas, circumstances, situations that help you figure out how to negotiate your life out of shitty situations.

WHO will be the ULTIMATE LOSER when the ‘shyte’ hits the fan in 2017 in this Anti-IEBC Drama?

It is a propaganda war, and we will be the ultimate losers when the shyte hits the fan in 2017.

Some of the narratives being bandied around include:
– “We” are protecting the businesses and business people in the CBD from “rioters”. This of course implies there’s a we that does business and makes productive use of the CBD, and there’s a them that are just stone-throwing hooligans.

– Why must people suffer and die so that one man, “The Lord of poverty” can win. This implies removing the IEBC somehow favours one man, even though the man will not get to choose the new commissioners, and even though a fair and just commission is good for everyone.

– Why are their own children not at the forefront. Well this one assumes that the people taking part in picketing are stupid or paid a pittance to take part, rather than them being adults who can make their own decision on what they want in life. Besides, every individual leader swallowing tear gas on those streets is someone’s child.

– Kenyans want “peace” to build the nation. Of course this conveniently avoids the fact it wasn’t because of our violent nature that PEV happened, it was because of an electoral system in which people had no trust, and because of a leadership that believed winning (at all costs) an election that disenfranchised half the country was okay.

– We are mobilizing “youth” to counter them. Again there’s that “we” vs “them” narrative, this time pitting groups against each other in what can only end up in battle, all this in a country with a functional security apparatus and a constitution that allows for freedom of association and speech.

And of course there’s us, the poor masquerading as a fake middle-class that subsist with loans up to our necks and cars that belong to scrap yards, we type from behind monitors as the maids we cannot pay a living wage scrub the floors in our rented abodes. We are desperate to maintain the status quo, the one in which we are supposedly a peace loving development conscious nation.

Hey girl, I know you have been living a complete nightmare for the last few days, with all the nasty jokes, memes and statements against you. Well you may not know me, so let me introduce myself. My name is Kendi Ashitiva but my friends call me Kendi I am 32 years old well 31 and a half, am a mother, a wife and many other things but that’s not important for now.

Girl I watched in such agony the expose on TV as your name, pictures and what should have been a private conversation between you and an acquaintance (the taxi driver) was splashed all over the screen. I saw how you became a topic of conversation, scorn and ridicule on social media.

God knows what you and your family must have been feeling or going through not to mention Jacobs wife and family. Well I am not here to defend, accuse or justify anyone. I am here to tell you that you know what girl its not the end although you may feel like it is. We all have skeletons in our closets some more than others, it’s unfortunate that yours got to be told to the whole world with no one wanting to hear your side of the story.

As you know by now, its tough when a woman is associated with a sexual scandal, it is an attack to our very core. Men can do whatever they want my darling but not us, we are called the sluts. Again not justifying anything but that’s just how it is my dear. Monica Lewinsky, as well as many other prominent female leaders in our country, whose names I will not mention had their reputation torn to shreds after being associated with sexual scandals.

Truthfully whatever happens between 2 people in private is never easy to establish, however society will only expose one member of the duo and that’s normally the woman. She is the one who is hung out to dry, she is the slut, she is the dirty one, she is the despicable one. Notice how every other person’s identity on the expose was protected but yours. I noticed that no one cared to shield your identity but the police; who only referred to you as the female occupant, but your secret was safe but only for a few more hours then all hell broke loose!

The truth is since the days of the bible, women experienced less forgiveness and less grace whenever they fell, especially sexually. The world can be a cruel place for a woman my darling. Did you know that in the past Jewish men used to pray Lord thank you for not making me A LEPER, A GENTILE OR A WOMAN. Yeah you heard me a Woman!!! But thank God for ONE MAN who changed the narrative. He changed the narrative for women ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!

This man is named JESUS. He is the MAN’S MAN my dear. Jesus understood women, he was kind to women. A woman was brought to him caught in the act of adultery(true story); she was brought by men who wanted to stone her, which was the custom at the time. Jesus on looking at her is recorded to have gone down written on the ground and asked anyone who had no sin to cast the first stone. The bible records one by one they walked away dropping their rocks as they went.

Jesus again leaned in to her asked her where are your accusers? She said none. He went ahead and told her neither do I condemn you, now go and sin no more. Jesus recognized her broken heart, her shame and her guilt, and he being a perfect MAN/GOD told her I FORGIVE YOU. Go and sin no more!

Girl we are all SINNERS, yeah in capital!!! And so I am writing to you and any other woman today who is struggling with GUILT AND SHAME to tell you that I and many other women who know HIM (JESUS) do not condemn you, there is a man who loves you, forgives you, covers you and will never expose you to shame and ridicule. I know one such man, I met him 16 years ago and he changed my life forever!! And he can change yours too. Love you girl !!! We are here if you need us.

WHY Caroline Mutoko is WRONG on Moha of Jicho Pevu EXPOSING Cherly Kitonga- in Jacob Juma MURDER Investigation

I have watched that Caroline Mutoko video, and I am gravely disappointed with the manner in which she has decided to address that issue. Listen here Kenyans. That exposé was not about Mohammed Ali, we need to separate our hatred for personalities from the main issue at hand here.

Let’s begin from where it matters the most.

That girl is a prime suspect in a controversial murder case. This fact doesn’t change whether her cover was blown or not. For as long as Jacob Juma’s file is still open, she will have to be called upon a million times to shed more light into what she knows, or doesn’t know, about that issue. For those who have been involved in such cases, it is a draining back-and-forth that you wouldn’t even wish on your worst enemy.

People like Caroline Mutoko who have taken upon themselves to mentor our girls must at least try to guide them well, and in the best direction possible. I have an issue with her saying that it is okay for you to mess up in your twenties. I will tell you what. It is not okay to mess up even in your teens. Let no one cheat you.

I repeat, it is not okay to mess up even in your teenage years. People entrusted with guiding our young people must do so without fear or favour, without lying to them about basic stuff. Without justifying apparent wrongs. That teenage girl who had a quickie with a random guy in a nightclub at 18 and contracted HIV AIDS will disagree with anyone telling her that it is okay to mess up in your teens.

That UoN campus goon who harassed fellow students for a small fee during SONU elections and got expelled for life will disagree with anyone telling him that it is okay to mess up in your twenties.

Let’s not beat about the bush here.

I was expecting Caroline Mutoko to reach out to that Cheryl girl and offer to walk her through the legal process of keeping her safe from harm’s way. That’s what friends are for. Instead, she has chosen to rub her studs on Mohammed Ali’s shin in an attempt to score cheap social media points.

Anyone who really cares for Cheryl and genuinely wants to help must kindly get her a legal counsel to put her under tight witness protection. I am worried for that girl’s life. We all know how ICC witnesses were tampered with and some found floating on rivers miles away from their homes. The Mafia in this country is very brutal. Anyone who knows more than they should know is a marked person.

This issue is not even about pot-bellied senile men sleeping around with young innocent girls. Far from it. Like I have told you before, I hold the view that anyone is free to sleep around with whomever they like, as long as consent is given for it. The reason why you have a National ID and a voter’s card is because the State entrusts you with determining it’s future.

Anybody with the power to vote in or vote out a President is mature enough to make their own independent decisions and live with them. So, I have no qualms with two adults, of reproductive age, exchanging pollen grains.

But what I expected Caroline Mutoko to do, which she did not do, is to try and guide our young people into making informed choices, in their lives. I have a daughter, whom I love so much, and I wouldn’t want to entrust her with a mentor who tells her that it is okay to mess around in your twenties since the society will give you another chance once your biological clock turns 30.

Because it won’t.

WHY CORD Suspended Anti-IEBC Demonstrations, Giving DIALOGUE A Chance

There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving dialogue a chance.

Two, those comparing our situation with the Dr. Machar’s situation are forgetting that Machar had two critical ingredients to rely on; that is, (i) the gun and (ii) the oil.

If we had guns and oil; friends, it would not have been us calling for dialogue but UN’s Ban Ki Moon and US’ John Kerry.

What we have is your skulls and you have to know Raila Odinga doesn’t want to be President over your dead bodies. The whole point of wanting to be President is to improve your condition, not commemorate your demise.

The people we compete with for power doesn’t have the conscience for these considerations. Yet, we do.

Tonight if you are feeling saddened by our lack of strategy for giving dialogue a chance, give it a little, deeper thought.
Life is still precious, regardless.

So you need to understand that Raila Odinga isn’t calling you to the streets so that you be gun powder for Uhuru.
And you need also to understand that Uhuru has no moral vault to draw conscience from. I said it.

When I think of our situation I can only compare it to a scene in that movie -Django Unchained – where an abysmal winner (slave owner) clings to a slave by thinking the other guy is a sore loser. It doesn’t end well.

Even in the darkest of times we must have a moral lesson to bequeath. The realization of the lack of reverence to human life by a regime willing to main and torture and kill always weighs on the old man.

The consequence of putting a brave face to that reality is unthinkable.

Be that as it may, I have one more thing to share with you, friends.
We shall overcome.

ANGRY CORD Supporters CONDEMN Leaders SUSPENDING Anti-IEBC Protests, USA Embassy working for Jubilee

Angry CORD supporters have faulted their leaders for suspending the Monday’s anti-IEBC protests. The supporters mostly the youth said the protests had gained moment and therefore an anti-climax for suspending them.

They faulted the USA embassy in Nairobi for continually misleading the Opposition and therefore indirectly supporting Jubilee regime. Most ODM members remember that in 2007 ambassador Michael Ranberger sent a congratulatory message to Kibaki immediately he was declared winner by IEC chairman Kivuitu even as it was open elections had been massively rigged.

In 2013, it is alleged that USA embassy in Nairobi encouraged Raila to go the courts where the supreme court conduct a shoddy job.

Here are some of the comments by CORD supporters:

Hon Jim Bonnie :> “we’re suspending protests to give time for dialogue. [Then the most annoying part of it] “We’ll resume the protests if we don’t here a word from jubilee”.
Lol, Uhuru Kenyatta is the luckiest president since Kenya got its independence.

Nindo Kanindo says: It’s high time Raila ataenda hizo demonstration pekee ykee… This is why many people atimes have lost faith in this guys, lemme just ask after kaisemoke demonstration and it was said that until IEBC odhidala why now call off demonstration yet our main motive hasn’t been achieved. A time when we needed the demonstrations everyday to pile pressure on this govt and not on intervals such as Mondays only. CORD Temporarily SUSPENDS Anti-IEBC Protests to give DIALOGUE A CHANCE and BURY Victims of Police Brutality

CORD temporarily suspends Monday’s anti IEBC protests to give dialogue a chance; gives Jubilee until 5th June to initiate talks. Here below is the press statement.

CORD PRESS STATEMENT:
25TH MAY 2016
Once again, Cord wishes to send deep condolences to the families and friends of innocent Kenyans killed and wounded in various parts of the country during the peaceful ant- IEBC demonstrations last Monday. Wecontinue to condemn the brutality meted out on innocent and peaceful Kenyans who were exercising their right to peaceably assemble, picket and present petitions.

It is getting very clear that Kenya is turning into a police state where freedom of expression, assembly and lawful struggles against the State will continue to be met with absolute brute force.

This turn of events is clearly part of a long term plan conceived from the start of this administration and now being executed. This is evident from the heavy investment in life taking equipment that has been placed at the disposal of the Police.

Brute police force is clearly at the centre of Jubilee’s plan for holding on to power just as was the case in 2007-2008 when up to 500 of the over 1300 post-election violence victims were killed by police as the PNU sought to retain power by force.

It is evident in how these officers have approached peaceful protesters; wielding extraordinary arsenal including body armour, automatic weapons, sniper rifles, tanks, grenade launchers and armoured vehicles that seem meant for Baghdad, Afghanistan and other struggling states.

The equipment at the disposal of our supposedly civilian police truly belongs in military barracks and not police stations. That they are in the hands of police indicate we are becoming a police state and sliding into being a failed state.

The investment in heavy military equipment for police was never meant to fight terrorists. Al Shabaab was just the excuse. These were bought to confront Kenyans and intimidate them against demanding their rights including the right to elect leaders of their choice.

These military gears in the hands of the Police across the country are creating a feeling in people that there is an occupying force. It is alienating, intimidating and scaring citizens.

In recent days, there have been mounting calls for dialogue. The Church and the international community have called for dialogue, which is what CORD has advocated since 2014.

We remain ready for and committed to dialogue as the best path out of the crisis facing our nation.

In this regard therefore, CORD has resolved to temporarily suspend demonstrations that were scheduled for next Monday 30th May, 2016 to give dialogue and peace a chance. Instead, we shall hold forums to condole with the bereaved and comfort the wounded. The suspension expires on Sunday 5th June, 2016.
We shall dedicate next week to the pursuit of peace, justice and dialogue with prayers for peace at Uhuru Park. Our supporters in the counties will hold similar prayers in churches, mosques, temples and sanctuaries with specific appeal for peace and justice to prevail.

If by the end of next week there shall be no concrete steps towards dialogue, we shall resume our weekly protests, which will only get more intense. The ball is therefore in the government’s court.
