Lamu west MP Stanley Muiruri arrested for tax evasion

Lamu West Member of Parliament(MP) Stanley Muiruri Muthama was on Thursday night arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

On their Twitter page, DCI revealed that Muiruri was arrested for engaging in fraud.

“He will be charged in an Eldoret court with a tax-related offence,” the DCI tweeted on Friday.

The investigative body had not divulged more information at the time of publishing.

On the same night, the detectives also arrested a police constable Collins Wanjala in connection to various reported robberies.

His accomplice, Paul Kea Origi was also nabbed while driving with the police recovering handcuffs and tear gas cannisters from the scene.

In yet another incident that occurred on Wednesday, detectives raided Nairobi tycoon’s office, Paul Kobia.

They raided the Kilimani offices at around 10 am, violently broke into the premises’ gates after the workers refused to open it.

A source at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation(DCI), however, highlighted that detectives were seeking documents following a complaint by a foreigner who had been duped into a fake gold deal.

When the stars fall out the sky

People gathered around the scene. They were thunderstruck: eyes wide in shock, hands on their mouth and arms on their head. Women screamed as they stared in disbelief at what lay ahead of them. Some burst into uncontrollable, bitter sobs. Joy didn’t have any Joy at all. The sun was shining brightly outside, but her world had turned dark. The air was warm but her heart was cold.

She lay next to a body. A body surrounded by a pool of blood. Her playful and jovial boy was dead. In denial, she shook him aggressively as if trying to bring back the life in him, but nothing happened. She let out a wild deafening cry and dashed towards her husband. She beat him angrily until her hands became sore, until she couldn’t beat him anymore.

They stared at each other knowing that they were the reason their son was dead.

Well, here’s why.

Because five years ago, on a rainy cold night at club De Santa, Joy met a man named Sam.

Because she fell in love with his silly jokes, the way he smiled and the way he aroused some dead feelings in her. He had strong rough hands that knew how to touch. He looked like a keeper. She knew that he was the one.

Because they got married, had a son and worked hard to make ends meet; she as a waitress, he as a Police Officer.

Because of their endless disagreements, sad and tired, she packed her bags, the furniture, her baby and left. The only thing she left behind was an echo.

Because of Sam’s frustration, he looked for them everywhere, but in vain.

Because of the technology, he traced them, three days later. Armed with a battalion of police officers, he was ready to face whatever came his way.

Because the bubbly child loved to play, he left his friends behind and ran to his dad with a big hearty smile, on the other side of the road.

Because Sam was excited as blind Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus after receiving his sight, he opened his wide arms ready to receive his son whom he adored, loved and cherished.

Because the Matatu driver was speeding, and no one saw it coming, he hit and ran over the boy.

As the ambulance arrived and the paramedics took away the body, they cried in each other’s arms. The stars in their world had fallen out the sky.

DP Ruto did not kill anyone in Kiambaa -Hon. Mohamed Ali (Jicho Pevu)

Nyali member of parliament Mohamed Ali has come to the rescues of his enemy turned friend and master William Ruto following alleged assassination plot.
Ali who was accompanied by a group of Tanga Tanga Mps faulted the government for continued assassinations since time immemorial.
Ali popularly known as Jicho Pevu also said that they were saddened by alleged CS Tuju’s remarks about post election violence where hundreds were burned in Kiambaa church by a group sinister to the deputy president.
Mohamed told off Ruto’s opponents to look for votes from the people and not taking away people’s lives for power.
Ali said that they have not the killing of Jacob Juma and christopher Chege Msando.

Speaker Muturi comes to the rescue of journalists after public outcry

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi on Thursday promised to address the plight of journalists covering Parliamentary proceedings.

Muturi noted that it is disturbing to see journalists working in Parliament standing for hours before they can get news. He said that journalists sitting on the floor as they wait to cover parliamentary sessions is a shame to the country.

Muturi’s remarks elicited mixed reactions on social media. Most of the journalists said that they are used to poor conditions.

Muturi’s attention was caught after Roselyne Obala posted a photo of several journalists sitting on the floor to cover the sessions in Parliament.

“This has been noted. I have since instructed that whenever possible, journalists covering Parliament be adequately facilitated to do their work,” he said.

Over the years, journalists have been facing endless challenges. Some of the media personalities receive threats from unknown persons for covering certain events. At times, they also differ with the police over different issues.

Cases of journalists being attacked and beaten have also risen in the recent past. The media personalities have been calling upon the government to put in place measures to protect them.

I wasn’t paid to kill Governor Gakuru, driver testifies in court

Driver to former Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru has revealed details of happenings that took place moments before the accident that took Gakuru’s life.

Gakuru died on November 7, 2017, after his official Mercedes Benz with registration number GVN 019A was involved in an accident at Makenji, along the Nyeri-Nairobi highway.

Samuel Kinyanjui Wanyagah has revealed that he was trying to avoid an oncoming lorry, but ended up hitting a guardrail which tore into the vehicle and emerged from the rear.

He told Nyeri Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo on Tuesday that he swerved to the left to avoid the lorry, only to ram into the rail which pierced the vehicle from the left side.

Kinyanjui who has since been transfered to the health ministry said that he was unable to stop the vehicle after the metal rail pierced in, which saw the car move further ahead.

“After the airbag on my side inflated, I was unable to control the car as I was stuck. My leg remained stuck on the accelerator pedal,” he was quoted by the Standard.

The governor, he said, was pinned to his seat and recalled hearing him gasping and saying “God we are finished!” immediately after the accident.

He also denied claims that he was speeding at the time of the accident as was earlier claimed by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Peter Mailanyi.

Contrary to Mailanyi’s claims that he was doing about 130 kilometers o’er hour, Wanyagah told the public inquest that he was only doing between 100 and 110 kilometers per hour.

He also added that he has been having problems with area residents, some of whom have accused him of being part of the plan to kill the former county boss.

“I was verbally attacked inside a local supermarket by an individual who claimed I was paid to eliminate Gakuru,” he added.

DCJ Mwilu should not hold any office, very corrupt- DPP Haji

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu is not fit to continue holding office for using her status to enrich herself, evade taxes and engage in inappropriate communication with suspects in criminal cases, a petition seeking her removal states.
The petition was filed with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Thursday by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji following a pledge he had made on May 31 in his reaction to the High Court ruling on the petition Ms Mwilu had filed challenging attempts by the DPP to charge her.
Mr Haji, in the petition, asks the JSC “to find that there are sufficient and overwhelming grounds for recommending to His Excellency the President that a tribunal be appointed to inquire into these events and particularly to find reason for the removal of the respondent from the office, station and position of the Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ).”
In the ruling of May 31, the High Court held that cases against judges “involving misconduct with a criminal element committed in the course of official judicial functions, or which are so inextricably connected with the office or status of a judge that they, perforce, must be deemed to be official misconduct, must first be referred to the body responsible and the disciplinary or removal process commenced.”

On the particulars of breach of the Judicial Code of Conduct, the petition accuses Ms Mwilu of obtaining a loan of Sh12 million from the collapsed Imperial Bank by virtue of her office as a Court of Appeal judge.

The DPP says the loan was granted to her even though she had not applied for it and was therefore not appraised for her creditworthiness as required, but instead dealt directly with the bank’s managing director. Moreover, the DPP alleges that Ms Mwilu broke the agreement with the bank that she would repay the money in three months.

Similarly, Ms Mwilu is accused of failing to honour her promise to the bank to replace securities for another loan of Sh60 million.
The DPP also alleges that Ms Mwilu engaged in inappropriate communication with one Omar Ikumu Arafat, who was a suspect in two cases before the Nairobi Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court. In the first case, the suspect had been charged with the offence of obtaining money by false pretence and being in possession of forged papers.
In the second case, he had been charged with giving false information to a person employed in the public service.
Ms Mwilu has consistently denied the charges the DPP brought against her and even questioned the motive behind her arrest and arraignment in 2018.

Pressure will now be on the JSC to quickly consider the petition and come up with a determination whether the petition raises sufficient ground that warrant the removal of the DCJ.
For the DPP, the challenge will be to prove his case based on evidence the High Court had found to have been acquired illegally.

Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip set to marry Gov. Sonko’s daughter Saumu

Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip has disclosed that he will exchange vows with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s daughter.

Speaking to The Nairobian, the 33-year-old legislator stated that he and Saumu Mbuvi were planning to formalize their union after dating for a year.

Loitiptip revealed that they would have an elaborate Islamic wedding by the year’s end.

“I am in a serious relationship with Saumu and we are planning a lavish Islamic wedding whose date will be announced soon, probably towards the end of the year,” he asserted.

The Jubilee Senator, however, dismissed claims that he wanted to use Sonko’s name to gain political mileage.

“I made my way into politics through the support of Lamu electorate. Sonko is a good friend and I stand by him in his political ambitions,” he added.

Loitiptip also brushed off claims that he is married, adding that he was dating a police officer named Sophia Mohamed and they had ended things following disagreements over family, finance and career.

While referring to the Senator as her husband, Saumu clarified that he was not married.

“What is this I am seeing all over the media that my husband is married, yet I know he isn’t? I never heard of any wedding between him and any woman,” she explained.

Their relationship came to light on June 2, 2019 after the senator was attacked by unknown people while defending the governor’s daughter.

The two were ambushed by unknown people while leaving a club that is located on Thika Road.
