Unfortunately, people have rejected the “apology tweet” by Larry Madowo. We feel that his purported apology doesn’t meet set minimum threshold.
If you check the apology keenly, you’ll find Larry bragging that his abusive tweet was “explosive”. He also says that he deleted the tweet because the “responses have degenerated into a tribal war”.
What does this tell us? That Larry hasn’t owned up. He hasn’t accepted that he did a mistake disrespecting Jakom but rather he has succumbed to public pressure. He still believes baba farted.
That’s why he casually apologised and as you can see, his apology lacks certain keywords. We henceforth place him in the category of Julie Gichuru, Kendagor Obadiah, and Kameme fm presenters, and reason for this is known.
The standards for apologising to Jakom and Luos were set out clearly in the case of Mutahi Ngunyi vs Luos/Raila Odinga. It can’t be lowered. We should never make it cheap for people to abuse Raila then make it cheap to apologize.
Apology must be costly to bar future misbehavior.
We’re not in anyway saying that people shouldn’t disagree with Jakom, all we’re saying is that if you’ve to disagree with the people’s president, don’t use uncouth and demeaning terms the same way we don’t use uncouth words against jubilee president (Hehe ariambo).
