Reliable sources have confirmed to this writer that the family and doctors of the former president Mwai Kibaki are considering to fly him out to England or USA for further medical attention. England is preferred mainly because it’s closer (7 hours direct flight) unlike USA that may take at least 16 hours.
Former President Mwai Kibaki is hospitalised at Karen hospital after he fell ill at his Muthaiga residence in Nairobi.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is among those who have visited the former president. Kibaki’s former coalition co-principal Raila Odinga has been briefed but was in Mombasa and information is that he will visit him any time from now.
Kibaki served as Kenya’s President for slightly over 10 years from 2002 to 2013, he was succeeded by the incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta via a controversial Supreme Court ruling.
The former president was appointed special envoy by United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), he travelled to Tanzania earlier last month July for a water conference.
The over 84-year-old who served as MP for Othaya in Nyeri lost his wife Lucy Kibaki in April this year while undergoing treatment at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London.
