The revelation that Nyanza and Western lags behind in voter registration has shocked the two regions which are also ODM leader Raila Odinga’s impenetrable strongholds.
“We wish to remind Kenyans the exercise will continue until February 14. We urge them to register and not wait until the last day. We will not extend this period,” Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati said yesterday.
Nairobi and Central leads in new voter listing, according to data from IEBC.
Kenya Today has exclusively spoken to a top official at Raila’s secretariat who has revealed the ODM Leader will make another tour of the two regions beginning with western Kenya this weekend.
Residents of the regions have heightened mobilization efforts with news reports that many are acquiring national IDs that has in the past hindered people from getting voter cards. The two regions have over 6 million unregistered voters.
President Uhuru directed that national IDs be issued within three days, to allow as many Kenyans as possible to register as voters.
