BREAKING: CHAOS ERUPT as police ARREST Uganda Opposition Leader Kizza Bisigye

Uganda Police arrested leading Ugandan presidential candidate Kizza Besigye along one of the main highways in the capital, Kampala, BBC has reported.

Police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of supporters, who were escorting him, eyewitnesses added.

The FDC leader was scheduled to address a rally at Nakivubo stadium but was allegedly denied access. He decided to campaign within the city centre.

Besigye is one of seven opposition candidates seeking to end President Yoweri Museveni’s 30-year rule in Thursday’s election.

Uganda’s police chief Kale Kayihura told BBC he is unaware of reports that Besigye had been arrested.

Kayihura confirmed that police fired tear gas to disperse supporters of Besigye in Kampala, and some of them were arrested.

Sources said Besigye is being held at Nagalama police post outside Kampala.
