A party organised to feed street children turned chaotic Saturday after they became rowdy and fought for the food forcing police at the venue to shoot in the air to calm the situation.
The highly publicised party dubbed ‘Chapati Forum’ was meant to celebrate the birthday of State House Director of Digital Communications Dennis Itumbi and also promote Uhuru Kenya (Volunteers had Tshirts labelled Team Uhuru na Chapati) but the street children who showed up at Moi Avenue Primary School in Nairobi were more than organisers had planned for.
A number of classes at the school that were being used as stores had their window panes shattered as the street children who had not had enough forced their way in prompting the police to disperse the crowd.
According to the organisers over 3000 street children attended.
