SUPER-JOKER Gen. Nkaissery appoints Firearms Board but SHITS on national cohesion

Following High Court Judge George Odunga’s ruling that the directive by the Chief Licensing Officer Samuel Kimaru to revoke Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s firearm under orders from Interior CS Gen. Joseph Nkaissery was illegal and unconstitutional, the government has moved with speed to constitute the Firearms Licensing Board.

Joho had successfully argued that the CS and the Chief Licensing Officer had no authority to revoke his license and only a board could do that.

Sources in the Interior Ministry indicate the ministry’s lawyers had earlier pointed this to Nkaissery but they were dismissed, with the CS reminding them an order of the government has to be obeyed. However, Odunga’s ruling, which Nkaissery didn’t see coming, put the ministry on the spotlight.

In a gazette notice signed by CS Nkaissery and dated 15th March 2016, a nine member team has been appointed headed by Maj. Gen (Rtd) Enoch Sasia  Lilian Kiamba (DCI), Stanley Omucheyi (Police), Barnice Gachegu (Attorney General), Anthony Wahome (National Gun Owners Association of Kenya), William Sing’oei (KWS), George Waiguru (NIS), James Ngului (Police) and Samuel Kimaru (Police) as the secretary.

Gen. Sasia was suspended from the Kenya Defence Forces in a corruption case but was later cleared.

Judge Odunga is to hear the case on April 8.
