His Excellence the Slaying Governor! Joho’s Air cut gets Hon Passaris Salivating Wet

Ali Hassan Joho is a man of consummate class and taste. The Mombasa governor oozes all these with ease and class. I will not lie, I admire his style!

Even Nairobi Women’s Rep Esther Passaris acknowledged that Joho is a slay “king” in probably an ode to excellent style. She said:

But a recent incident has shown that even though Joho’s style looks effortless he might actually put a lot of thought into it.

The Sultan as he is affectionately referred to attended the World’s first Blue economy conference this past week. Who knew that fashion and governance would go hand in hand at the conference?

Maybe, only the Sultan. Joho got a hair cut by top Congolese barber George Dafunda. The governor looked like a pleased client after the Congolese barber had finished trimming him.

Check out more images of his dope hair-do are below:

Death of Nairobi night life confirms economy is long collapsed, even rich lost it !

By Silas N

In my free time, I roam in Nairobi at night, moving after one entertainment spot after another. It is part of my job.

I have been doing this for 12 years. And now I am deeply afraid. Gravely afraid. Guys, things are not right. I got home at 1 last night and I have not slept.

Last week, we were at a popular entertainment joint in Westlands on a Wednesday. At 8.51 p.m. there were just the two of us.

Last night same story. I patronized two joints on Mombasa Road and the places were deserted. Completely. On a Thursday night. And it is end month. And it is a festive season. Then we went to Nextgen Mall. No 7. It was empty, only one section of the expansive place was occupied.

Want to know the status of our economy? Look at the grim faces of waiters and waitresses.

This is not mere hating on Jubilee government. We no longer have the government since our leader joined it.

Of course you have read that the wages have stagnated in the last ten years. People earn less now than they did in 2008.

Ephrahim Njenga talked about the recession in the informal sector. The government hardly cares about the informal sector and often it is the World Bank and white people with a mission who map out the informal sector.

Now, it has be hit by a serious cash crunch. A fish monger probably sells less fish now than she did six years ago. Because we stopped caring about Lake Victoria, now we justify importing fish from China. That is one chain of business totally gone. Maize farmers, sugar cane farmers, coffee, no longer make a fortune from their sweat. That is for well-connected individual to import duty free and sell all the while pocketing billions for 2022.

I can go on. Corruption, the foreign debts, exceptional incompetence in prioritization, have all done a number on all of us.

If Kenya was a European country, people will be living on the streets while others commit suicide.

We were here in the 1990s. Even wore with Aids. The SAPs made Kenyans adjust accordingly. But in the 1990s, you could actually go back to the village and start over. But right now how many of you can go to the village and start over? What is left in the village?

What does it mean for you for an economy to shrink right before your eyes?

Share your experiences from your sector. If it is doing well tell us. If bad tell us….

How Kenya Power allegedly aided President Kenyatta’s re-election

Electricity distributor Kenya Power cooked its books to the tune of billions of shillings in two years after it was roped into a political scheme to keep the electorate happy in the run-up to last year’s General Election.

Auditor-General Edward Ouko has, in his latest report, laid bare the full extent of the financial misrepresentation, whose aim was to keep electricity prices artificially low and help the Jubilee government get re-elected.

Kenya Power refused to restate its financial results for the years ended June 2017 and June 2018 as Mr Ouko had advised, underlining the level of impunity at the Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed firm.

Last year the company, acting on instructions from the government (which was seeking re-election in the August poll), suspended the collection of fuel cost charge on electricity bills, leading to a pile-up of uncollected cash.

The fuel cost charge , which is used to compensate diesel power generators, was held constant at Sh2.85 per kilowatt hour (kWh) in the seven months to August last year despite a steep increase in the amount of diesel-generated power on the national grid.

Consequently, the uncollected levy piled up to more than Sh10 billion, forcing the company to ramp up its recovery of the levy after the election, and causing a consumer uproar and litigation.

According to Business Daily, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved Kenya Power’s ignore-and-bill-later strategy which was short-term policy of the government.

Delaying collection of the fuel levy, which was meant to contain public disaffection with the government over the high electricity bills in the run-up to the polls, however, left Kenya Power’s financial statements in disarray.

To pull off the scheme, Kenya Power went against International Accounting Standards (IAS) to incorrectly report sales, receivables, liabilities and profits.

The electricity distributor irregularly recognised unbilled fuel costs as revenue, setting off a process that saw it manipulate the reporting of other items in its books in the quest to avoid disclosing lower earnings.

Do you think KPLC cooperated with IEBC to rig elections?

Government to shut all porn sites in the country following Prof George Magoha’s urge

The government has granted KNEC chairman Prof George Magoha his wish in the move to curb teenage pregnancies. Prof Magoha had argued that pornography websites contribute heavily to teenage pregnancies, urging the state to close accessibility to the sites in Kenya.

As a result, the government has announced plans to close porn websites and regulate films as one way of protecting schoolchildren in the wake rise in teenage pregnancies.

Information CS Joe Mucheru said the Communication Authority of Kenya has the mandate to regulate materials shown to children.

“The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) is now under my ministry and will work together with the CAK to ensure film content shown to our young people is regulated,” he said.

Mucheru addressed the press when he opened a two-day symposium for chief information officers at Enashipai Resort in Naivasha. It was organised by CIO 100 East Africa.

He said the government had made strides geared towards ensuring technological advancements are put in place in every ministry and departments.

On ICT, the CS urged telecommunication companies to use technology in advancing the Big Four agenda.

“My ministry has also received Sh1 billion that will be used to reward digital innovators under the white box initiative,” he said.

CIO 100 chief executive Laura Chite said advancement of technology in the financial and educational sector has played a major role in service delivery in the country.

The ban on the porn websites has come after a high number of teenage pregnancies was recorded in the just concluded National exams.

Several candidates wrote their exams either  from hospitals over giving birth, or while pregnant.

Kilifi and Kitui Counties recorded a high number in these pregnancies. Parents were the most blamed for failing to effectively act on their role as parents.

They were accused of not guiding and giving their daughters sex education with the state threatening to take action on such parents.

Do you think the ban on the pornography websites will help curb teenage pregnancies?

Cheating in exams isn’t bad, the government has made it a culture for success in life

By Wandia njoya via fb

So I go back to the office and the file hasn’t arrived. The lady goes to the archive, finds the file, and takes me to go to the finance office. It’s now a thing, because they don’t see people my age coming back for transcripts.

At the finance office, the lady goes through my file and says she can’t find my fee clearance receipt. I was like: I don’t remember anything like that, because we were all JAB students in those days. But she persists, and when she doesn’t find it, she asks me when I graduated. I say 94, and she gets the fee balance file for 94 graduates. She can’t find my number. So after a few minutes, I tell her well, I was in the A level group, so maybe you could check there. She goes, gets the file, finds my number.

Apparently I owe KU money.

It doesn’t make sense. There’s a clearance form which has been stamped by Finance. But she says the only way I won’t pay is if I show her the receipt for clearing the fees. Where will I find a 24 year old receipt? And I cannot remember anything like that happening when we were undergrads. But anyway, it’s past 5pm, so I have to go back tomorrow. And clear my fees balance.

So now I’m calling my mother for the files that are still at home. I love my mother. She sees common sense which I don’t see. So she says: it doesn’t make sense that they want you to verify your own certificates. If you had got your certificates from River Road, you’ll simply go there again.

Boom!

But here’s the other absurdity of the rule. I have to verify my certificates from KU, but people who did all their degrees in Kenya don’t have to verify their certs from the same institutions. Clearly, the point is 1. to tax us who dared to study abroad, and 2. to humiliate us for daring to have options.

Again, this humiliation or hazing is still not as annoying as the two implications I’ve talked about:

1. GoK is basically saying that if you don’t do well in form 4, that result will follow you for the rest of your life, no matter what you do. And yet, the same Magoha and Amina Mohammed were saying last week that people should not feel bad if they didn’t pass, because not passing is not the end of the world. Well guess what, it actually is the end of the world. If your kid doesn’t get good marks in Standard 8, that’s the end of the road for him.

From now on, when you’re lamenting about exam cheating, please don’t expect me to join the bandwagon. Because now I completely get why people engage in exam cheating. And that’s what capitalism does. It makes you have no option but to cheat and then blames you for cheating like you had a choice.

2. the fact that lecturers, who studied in other countries and may have seen what democracy looks like, can accept this kind of humiliation, is very disappointing. But it also explains why the voice of academics is missing from conversations about what is happening in our country, and especially to our education. I have kept asking why lecturers are not discussing the privatization of education or the introduction of managerialism. But now I understand why. We lecturers are upper class snobs, just without (or some with) the wealth to go with our snobbery. That is why we bully and harass, and why we have few ideas to show for our status. We are part of the bourgeoisie Fanon was talking about. We don’t mind the humiliation because we think it makes us better and gives us the status to humiliate the next lot.

So I don’t think the education system will be redeemed by my generation. If you are my age, I’m not writing this for you. And if you have a PhD, and especially if you are permanently employed in a Kenyan university, I have even less respect for you. The government is doing all it can to humiliate us, to destroy education, and we have nothing to say. We don’t mind the system. We want to negotiate with it, and benefit from it. And humiliate our children with it. We want consultancies and admin jobs from it. We don’t care about the children of Kenya and what destroying education will mean for them.

I’m writing this for our children who are actually saying there is a problem, who inbox me to ask how they can challenge their mistreatment at the universities. They care. And I will keep quoting Nikki Giovanni to our youth:

“You, my children of battle, are your heroes/You must invent your own games and teach us old ones how to play.”

Changing the color of police uniforms is not part of police reforms

By Executive Director of International Centre for Policy and Conflict

The Constitution gave us a roadmap on the kind of police we needed to create. So the starting point is to ask the question, have we implemented the police reforms as provided in the Constitution?

Secondly, we have the National Police Service Act of 2011. Regrettably, it has continuously been amended. So the enabling legislation has never been implemented.

So essentially we have not been able to change the character of the national police as envisaged under the new constitution. So what difference will it make with the kind of reforms they are undertaking now?

We are dealing with the form of the police not the structural problem. The problem is the software. For instance, police were killing people under the old Constitution as they do now under the new law.

Were the reforms Kenyans wanted about police uniforms? Even if you buy the most expensive uniform and you don’t change the software of the police, will that police change?

If you go to Chapter 14 of the 2010 Constitution, it provides for an independent police that is not controlled by the executive. However, the police as we knew it is under the control of the political executive and the civil service has not changed.

Under the new order, the police were supposed to be impartial in their handling of public affairs. But we still have a regime policing force. Its about protecting the regime in power.

The Constitution also makes it clear that Kenya was supposed to have a people-centred police service. The service was supposed to respect the rights and freedoms of citizens. Today, police are being accused every day of extra-judicial killings. Police are meting violence on Kenyans on a daily basis.

These are the provisions of the Constitution that ought to come first in police reforms. Have they implemented that? No. So the kind of reforms we are doing are superficial. Without these changes, even if you were to come with whatever structure of the police it will not make a difference.

Lastly, Kenyans were not stupid to create the National Police Service Commission in the Constitution. But that Commission has been completely cannibalised and its mandate shredded.

CS Matiangi at ground zero, See what he did to Police officers manning a Road Block

Interior CS FRED Matiangi today made a stop at Naivasha for a one-on-one with matatu operators, passengers and even police officers on the crackdown on rogue operators. Remember CS Matiangi is in charge of Interior not Transport CS whose boss is one James Macharia.

Matiangi’s visit was a suprise and he had fun with the passengers and the officers, see video below. Amazing stuff!

Blogger Wahome Thuku notes that one of the reasons the late Hon John Michuki (God rest his soul) succeeded and won the hearts of Kenyans was because of getting down to the service users to hear their opinion.

Blow to Journalist Moses Dola faces a blow as Court slaps him with a 10 year imprisonment for Killing wife

Moses Dola, the journalist who was convicted of manslaughter following the death of his wife, former NTV reporter Sarah Wambui Kabiru, has been send to prison for a period of 10 years.

This is after High Court judge Roseline Korir handed down the sentence on Thursday at the Milimani Law Courts in the capital Nairobi.

On October 5, Judge Roseline Korir found Dola guilty of manslaughter and ordered the cancellation of his bond terms.

The judge also directed that he be held at the Nairobi Industrial Area Prison while awaiting his sentence.

“I am not sure he intended to kill her, the court is prepared to give him the benefit of doubt,” Justice Korir ruled.

The judge ordered for a pre-sentencing report, saying that it would not interfere with her decision on the sentence she was going to hand him.

The accused, who is being represented by lawyer Cliff Ombeta, denied committing murder in the trial that began about seven years ago.

Ms Kabiru was killed on May 1, 2011 at the couple’s house in Nairobi’s Umoja estate. Her lifeless body was found in their locked bedroom carefully tucked in bed.

On the fateful day, the accused allegedly left his dead wife in their house and went on a drinking spree while pretending that all was well.

It is the deceased’s brother and neighbours who later found her dead body in the locked bedroom of their house while Mr Dola allegedly went into hiding for a few days before surrendering himself to the police in Naivasha.

The couple’s househelp told court that the deceased would usually hand the baby to her in the morning but, on that fateful day, Dola was the one who did it.

In his defense, Dola told court that the deceased attacked him with a pair of scissors and a struggle ensued, during which his wife fell down and hit her head. Do you think the sentence ruling was made fairly?

The Blue economy was just another strategy to exploit Kenyans

Wandia Njoya via fb

One feature of whiteness is to spend resources looking for a magic solution while ignoring the answer staring you in the face. Because the bigger point of such adventures is power built on exclusivity. And that’s what this talk of blue economy is about. The people of Kenya ARE RIGHT HERE. They are not getting a good enough education to help them deal with life’s dilemmas. They are not getting publicly funded social services so that they can spend their time innovating. Their labor is being stolen through scandal, upon scandal, upon scandal. And instead of fixing these glaring and obvious problems, and actually trusting and investing in Kenyans, the government is telling us about going into the water and “exploiting” it.

This government gives nothing. Builds nothing. It just exploits. It exploits prisoners. It exploits wildlife. Now it wants to exploit the water. I can’t think of how much more colonial this gets, and yet if you pointed at how twisted and sick this is, the government won’t get it. It just wont. If Brand Kenya can tell wazungu to colonize us and not think it’s a problem, if a lecturer can tell BBC that voluntary colonialism is worth considering, what hope is there for Kenya? It’s like we’ve decided not to be human beings.

I want this government sent into pigs and the pigs thrown over the cliff. If it goes into the ocean, may it drown and not come back. I’m sick of this government’s colonial sickness. And it’s too sick to see that it’s sick.

Please save me the Embarrassment of standing trial with the Akasha brothers on the drugs: Joho begs President Uhuru

”This is the primary reason why Hon. Ali Hassan Joho is weeping like a child before tyrant Uhuru Kenyatta: “Please save me from being extradited to stand trial in New York with the Akasha Brothers,” Joho begs Uhuru Kenyatta daily. Election thieves, drug dealers, murderers and looters must fall. #SayNoToUjinga”  says miguna miguna.

The Mombasa governor and his elder brother popularly known as ”ALPHA” had earlier on been linked to a parliamentary drug report back when he joined parliament.

The accusation have been on air for a period of time with the governor continuously denying the links.

Could it be that governor is part of the reapers of the handshake?

Miguna Miguna has continously claimed theat the likes of Mombasa  governor Ali Hassan Joho never had a vision within the NASA agenda and that his main aim was to safeguard his ”illegal business”

”For Baktash, no judge, prosecutor, policeman or lawyer was unreachable. For him and his empire, everyone was fair game. Everyone had a price and the Akasha Empire, for which he served as judge, jury and executioner, had the resources to sway the conviction of almost every man or woman who found himself face to face with him.” Quotes the standard

”For tyrants and their sycophants, you’re celebrating too soon. For 25 years Agustino PINOCHET was a Chilean military autocrat backed by the USA who had helped him overthrow the popular and democratically elected President of Chile Allende in 1973. On Oct. 10, 1998, after 25 years of horrendous human rights abuses in Chile and after Pinchochet had secured “immunity” from prosecution, a Spanish magistrate, Baltasar Garzon, indicted him for human rights abuses in Chile that he had committed decades before. He was arrested in London 6 days later and detained until March 2000.

Ignorant people may think that Uhuru Kenyatta is above the law, but they must be reminded that Pinochet was 100 times more powerful, brutal and much loved by the Americans and the so-called western “allies.” He still went down in ignominy.

We are patient and we know what we are doing. So, celebrate now at your peril!” laments Miguna Miguna

Drama as West Pokot Governor John Lenyangapuo publicly insult CS Fred Matiang’i (Watch Video)

West Pokot governor John Lenyangapuo has come out blazing to defend his people who are affected by the Michuki Rules and the crack down which was announced few weeks ago.

The crack down according to the CS Matiang’i and inspector General Joseph Boinnet was meant to restore sanity in the roads. Basically was to root out rogue matatu from the roads and also come into play in efforts of reducing the number of road accidents experienced in the country.

West Pokot Governor has come out boldly to say enough is enough. Governor John Lenyangapuo has said that the laws which are manufactured in Nairobi are affecting the people of West Pokot especially Boda boda riders.

In defense of his actions the governor has said that the Traffic police have planted road blocks a long each road and they are arresting boda boda riders demanding one thousand for each person arrested.

The governor has outcried that the business of boda boda has helped most of the youths quit otther crime activities such as banditry.

Lenyangapuo has urged the CS Fred Matiang’i and Police Inspector General Joseph Boinnet to train the officers running the crack down as some are persecuting the road users in his county.

This action by Governor of West Pokot as the government heightened the Michuki rules targeting all road users. The rules are meant to restore what has been lacking in the Kenyan roads leading to increased cases of crime.

Kenya ‘geared up’ for the Blue Economy Agenda after concluding Nairobi conference

President Uhuru Kenyatta has lauded the just concluded Nairobi conference as one that generated the right momentum for harnessing the enormous economic potential of the blue economy.

Speaking when he closed the historic three-day global Sustainable Blue Economy Conference at Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi, President Kenyatta said the conference provided an avenue for the world to make innovative and practical contributions to harness the full potential of oceans, seas, lakes and rivers and expand opportunities for all.

“The truly global representation at this Conference and its far reaching and collective beneficial outcomes, have reaffirmed my belief in the transformative power of multilateralism,” President Kenyatta said at the closing ceremony that was also attended by Deputy President William Ruto. “There is no problem that is too difficult to solve when we come together as a global community,” President Kenyatta added.

The Kenyan leader, however, sounded the alarm bells over the unsustainable exploitation of the blue economy and called on the delegates to put long-term common interests above short-term selfish motivations. “Managing oceans, lakes and seas is complex and it requires us all to put long-term common interests above short-term self-interest.

Failing that, our waters could easily become the tragedy of the commons of the 21stcentury,” President Kenyatta pointed out. Noting that the conference came up with the Nairobi Statement of Intent on Advancing Global Sustainable Blue Economy, President Kenyatta urged the delegates to implement the identified strategies to expand economies, create shared prosperity and increase revenues and job opportunities through ocean-based industries.

The Nairobi Statement of Intent on Advancing Global Sustainable Blue Economy partly states that “the development of a sustainable blue economy is possible with the full and effective involvement and participation of all relevant actors working together and is the primary purpose of SDG 14”.

The President noted that future efforts such as the UN Ocean conference of 2020 that Kenya and Portugal will host, will build on the Nairobi Statement to advance the journey towards a Sustainable Blue Economy.

“Let us all work together to realize this worthy objective. It is the right thing to do,” President Kenyatta said. He underscored the importance of harnessing the blue economy resources in a responsible manner, adding that some of the actions agreed upon at the conference included putting in place solid environmental standards, strengthening programmes to support poorer countries manage and recover from climate related catastrophes and ensuring more effective control of Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) fishing.

“Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported fishing represents a major threat to marine ecosystems, it can hinder the recovery of overfished stocks and can push fishery to the point of collapse, thereby reducing biodiversity in important ecosystems,” President Kenyatta said.

The Kenyan Head of State also commended the conference for agreeing to strengthen political leadership and international cooperation as well as committing to work collaboratively on data analysis, information and intelligence sharing to curb the IUU threats to marine resources.

“The availability of reliable, up-to-date, accessible data and information is essential as a basis for integrated and sustainable management of the ocean and coastal resources,” he said. The conference committed to protect ocean and coastal resources, help them regenerate, and to ensure they remain viable for the present and future generations.

Given the trans-boundary nature of oceans, President Kenyatta said international mechanisms for negotiation and collaboration are critical to preventing, rolling back and managing IUU marine threats.

He pointed out that the trans-boundary nature of the oceans and the fact that two-thirds of global waters lie beyond national jurisdiction, requires concerted efforts to put in place appropriate international mechanisms for negotiation and collaboration to ensure its sustainable management.

“I am pleased to note that we have agreed to build capacity in the poorer countries, to more effectively patrol the seas and oceans and to access scientific and technology resources, to strengthen overall marine capabilities including surveillance and stock taking,” President Kenyatta said.

Other speakers at the closing ceremony, attended by Seychelles President Danny Faure and Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila of Namibia, were Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma and Canada’s Minister for Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard, Jonathan Wilkinson.

A Rare Moment, Hon Moses Kuria Talks Sense Over Maize Cartels and Gender Bill

Education CS Amina Mohammed hints at KCSE release day shortly after exam completion

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam’s results could be released before Christmas as confirmed by  Education CS Amina on Wednesday.

Amina said releasing the results early would help parents to properly budget for end-year festivities.

Amina who was speaking at Nairobi School said the exam was over and that teachers were retreating for marking.

She said national monitoring team comprising officials from Kenya National Examinations Council, the Teachers Service Commission and the ministry witnessed the sealing of Art and Design papers.

“This signals successful completion of KCSE exam. We promise to work very hard to ensure we deliver the results before Christmas,” Amina said.

She was with Knec chairman George Magoha. Amina said the exam was credible, thanks to robust monitoring.

“We have already started receiving numerous requests for bench marking from other countries from the continent,” she said.

She said more than 98 per cent of contracted professionals and teachers who oversaw the exam displayed unparalleled commitment to high integrity.

She said the test was smoothly undertaken in the 22 schools put under high surveillance due to previous records of cheating.

“Minimal malpractices were detected in two of the centres but that did not compromise on the quality of the exam,” Amina said.

Ten officials managing exam centres were releaved for allowing transportation of exam materials in private vehicles contrary to regulations. The ministry had ordered that only government vehicles be used.

Governor Sonko’s worst mess that is now crippling Senator Sakaja’s office

Taking over an office right now in Kenya is as risky as not even not accepting the role at all. The corruption and unaccountably in the running of the office practices is just at its peak.

Most people have landed themselves in trouble just because the previous office failed to clear their dues. This is the same exact Situation in which Nairobi Senator is in right now.

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has threatened to freeze the  senator’s office account over Ksh14 million not paid during Mike Sonko’s tenure as Senator.

The office owes KRA Ksh13.9 million outstanding tax arrears for the period between 2013 and 2017.

In a letter dated November 14, KRA mentioned that the Senator’s office has not remitted PAYE for payroll month of July 2013 to August 2017.

“Note, due to the unavailability of PAYE returns and payroll records, the amount due have been estimated and subjected to late payment penalties and interests.”

“You are therefore required to remit the outstanding amount of Ksh13,952,551 to the commissioners of domestic taxes immediately to avoid further accrual of penalties and interests,” the letter read.

In a letter  to the Senate Clerk, Sakaja stated the arrears including interests and penalties amount to Ksh14,096,753.

He indicated during his tenure his office has complied fully with statutory deductions.

“I therefore request your office to take up the matter and expedite it to avoid halting of operations in our office since KRA has already initiated a debt recovery process and have indicated that they will be freezing all the funds in our bank account meant for salaries and office operations,” the letter read in part.

Three Conditions Uhuru and China Must Fulfil Before Signing New Loans, na sio tafadhali

By Joseph Githu for Kao news

Let’s talk

If we must borrow from China for infrastructure growth 3 things must happen, yes three solid conditions must be fulfilled

One 30% of the entire contract must be supplied by the locals, that includes human resource, raw materials and technical support, otherwise we shall be complaining of unemployment while we are actively providing employment in China!

Two, our professional in that particular field must work hand in hand with the professional from China for a technology transfer, it beats logic to keep producing civil engineers in our institutions of higher learning but keep paying engineers from China to do what local engineers can do……. infact we should have a technology transfer institute, this is where we get our young graduates into areas of expertise even in diffrent countries to go out there and bring the best practice home.

Three, we must accept to change our archaic ways of doing things, for example, it is proven now that filling roads with rocks is not a sustainable way of building long lasting roads, by now we all know that if we compact red soil and cement we make more durable roads than having lorries and lorries of hard-core rocks which after 6 months will break and the roads go back to the same dilapidated situation they were in.

I once asked a road engineer why they insist on building our roads with those rocks and some women who sit arranging them for months while the Chinese guys use red soil which is readily available at no cost and the engineer told me that it would be almost impossible to raise the bill of quantities….. so it’s all about money, we build in the most expensive way the most useless roads.

Let’s keep this discussion going.

It’s time to talk!

Details of Rosemary Odinga ailment, struggles: A story of rare fortuse and courage

By Salim Lone

A STORY OF RARE FORTITUDE AND COURAGE
Rosemary Odinga’s public appearance on Tuesday marked the culmination of a heroic two-year struggle, and of a profound inner strength, against seemingly impossible medical and other odds. She has somehow managed to overcome the horrors and demons of her wrenching ordeal to a point where she could do something this week that was unthinkable at many points of this long journey of hers.

I personally know of no more compelling story of prolonged fortitude and courage against impossible odds like Rosemary’s and her family’s. It is a story that should be recited to provide strength to all those who face unbearably hopeless calamities, and do not believe that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Rosemary’s recovery to even this frail condition that we saw is of course her very own doing, but it was also only possible because of the utter devotion that Raila, Mama Ida and sister Winnie somehow managed to summon, so soon after they had inconsolably lost their first-born Fidel. And of course, Rosemary’s two loving girls, who always wanted to be by her side, the younger one not totally comprehending, made a decisive difference to Rosemary’s ability to pull through to this level. I am sure all Kenyans are praying that this recovery continues to an even better conclusion that what we have already seen.

Among the most traumatizing episodes the family lived through was the fear-filled race against time on a plane carrying a very ill Rosemary to an advanced medical facility in South Africa in late February 2007, with no certainty that the urgently-needed brain surgery could be performed in time.

One can only imagine how Raila and Mama Ida coped with the excruciating dread of that flight, holding onto Rosemary as if giving her dear life. Raila had of course put off his early March engagements in the US at that time, and once Rosemary was out of the woods, he flew to New York for a few days and then returned to South Africa to be with her again.

There was also another trip to a specialized medical facility in China that Raila and Ida took to obtain further treatment for Rosemary.

Despite their unspeakable anguish over her suffering in the last two years, the family was able to muster the enormous reserves of strength and will needed – strength I am sure they were never knew they had – for the support and care that saw Rosemary through to where she is now.

But of course, it was Rosemary’s own strength and determination that was the paramount game changer. In the two months I spent in Nairobi for the 2007 election, I saw Rosemary a few times at their Karen residence as she kept on making the heroic effort to do what was needed to undertake what was going to be a long, slow recovery. There were occasional setbacks to her health on the way, but not to her desire and will to overcome her crisis.

It’s no less than a miracle that Rosemary was able this week to somehow to recover enough strength and determination to participate in a public event for something very dear to her heart – the well-being of women, especially those with whom she has grown up in Kibera. She provides an astounding example and role model to Kenyans and particularly women to emulate.

What a glorious and heart-wrenching moment this must have been for Raila, Ida, Winnie, Rosemary’s girls and all the others who love Rosemary. May God continue to strengthen her.

Hilarious: Breaking down Mike Sonko’s American Accent, were it to be Gov Waititu

By Onyinkwa O

You must have heard the linguistic acrobatics that some Kenyans from ‘bara’ pull whenever they are speaking Swahili to a coastal. Or those so called ‘life coaches’ or ‘motivational speakers’ on Kenyan TV who do that annoying fake American twang that they think makes them sound wise and knowledgeable. Or some of the Kenyans in the diaspora who come over for the first time and have a point to prove. Or any other individual that ignorantly imagines that an American accent is the epitome and hallmark of proficiency and flawless speech in English.

It always borders on the hilarious. But i have never heard anything as hilarious as listening to Mike Sonko’s speech at the Blue economy conference yesterday. For those of you who might have gotten lost along the way, here is a translation of some of the terms he pronounced different from how he does when not trying to prove what a good speaker of English he is. The name ‘Kinyara’ is ‘Kenyatta. The term ‘Woras’ is ‘Waters’. The term ‘Ciry’ is ‘City’. And the term ‘Hedkworas’ is ‘Headquarters’.

And if you think that we were unfortunate to have the conference in Nairobi where it had to be addressed by Sonko, then you are a pessimist who see the glass as half empty. Just think of what it would have been like to have in Kiambu and have Waititu address it! And maybe have a cheeky speechwriter insert such words as ‘Parallelogram’ and ‘lollipop’ in there! I would have advised him to pull the stunts that one of our former mayors in Kisii town back in the day used to pull whenever he was required to deliver a speech in English. He would always get involved in a road accident on his way there, and have his deputy read his speech on his behalf!

DP Ruto’s Maize Cartels applauded for teaching Kalenjin maize farmer Political Lesson

The people of the North Rift do not eat fish and did not give a fuck about the importation of Chinese fish. The fishing industry in Kenya could as well die for all they cared, because they were in Kafamen, and therefore insulated from the transgressions of Uhuruto. Or so they thought.

They egged on, those who flooded the local market with cheap contraband ~ even toxic ~ sugar because they were told this would kill two birds with one stone. It would help grow the war chest for the 2022 bid on the one hand, and impoverish and soften the Luhyas and Luos that were the biggest obstacle.

Where the sugar in their tea came from was not their concern, as long as there was sugar in their tea. That is why we shouldn’t give a hoot where the maize we consume comes from. Whether it comes from Uasin Gishu, or from Mexico, or from Ulliam’s 500,000 acre farm in the Congo, i won’t give a rat’s ass as long as i have ‘enche’ on my table. If anything, Congolese maize could do to our tongues what Rhumba music does to our ears! Who knows?

End of lesson.

Hon Kuttuny vs Murkomen war confirms DP Ruto Failed, Kalenjins suffering as Cartels Eat big

KUTTUNY-MURKOMEN DESPICABLE TELEVISION SPAT EXPOSES WILLIAM RUTO’S POLITICAL TOWER OF BABEL

Tuesday evening’s bitter and primitive quarrel on Live Television between Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and outspoken Cherengany Member of Parliament Joshua Kuttuny disguised as debate over the raging Maize Sector crisis is a big shame to the Kalenjin Nation and an indictment to our legislature.

Apart from the Presidency, traditionally most Kenyans view election for leadership to Parliament (National Assembly and Senate) as the height of political leadership, success and maturity. Hence, those lucky to land those positions have always enjoyed the revered title of Honorable and are always given respect and recognition wherever they go.

However, with skyrocketing vices like negative ethnicity, corruption, election rigging, economic crimes and mafia politics, our political sphere has rapidly been invaded and captured by shameless crooks who scoop these honorable positions for ulterior motives, and not for service to voters nor the nation. One wonders whether the title honorable is still deserving to such misfits.

Considering the political significance and experience of both in Deputy President William Ruto’s battalion of elected leaders in Kalenjinland it is now evident that the DP’s is a totally failed leadership for the Community.

His one-time bossom friend and defender turned critic (Kuttuny) ably told Kenyans, with evidence, that the DP is the godfather of a Cartel fleecing the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and government funds meant to pay maize farmers and also another cartel fiddling with subsidized Fertilizer.

But on the other hand Mr Ruto’s current lead hatchet-man (senator Murkomen), in defence of the DP hit the roof and started throwing a barrage of base expletives at the MP to distract and scuttle the allegations. To Murkomen’s credit, the debate surely degenerated into name calling and outright vendetta. If these are a sample of Ruto’s MPs and other elected leaders in Kalenjinland, then he has surely auctioned the community to mediocrity and suffering.

In their own words, during the Citizen TV debate, one is a sycophant and permanently fuelled by handouts from a corrupt godfather high up the political pyramid to protect maize sector cartels frustrating farmers, while the other is a player in the infamous drugs business underworld bedeviling the country and a gun for hire by political opponents of the corrupt big-man out to undermine his rise to the top.

They even cross told how they were recruited from the gutters to parliamentary politics, meaning they did aspire for leadership but were recruited and sponsored to serve partisan interests and not the people.
Kenyans watched in horror as the two threw caution to the wind and went personal in the most despicable manner, tearing into each other in the most uncouth terms. Weighed against African or Kalenjin traditions or against Christian Values and also against constitutional bench marks of what is expected of public officials, both Kuttuny and Murkomen violated society and must apologize.

Their pendulum of mutual accusations and filthy tirades mutually condemning each other’s personality and conduct with either disrespecting and abusing the other before the whole nation should condemn them to the void of infamy and strip them of any leadership honors and credentials they claim.

More importantly, Kenyans have heard and seen for themselves how not to formulate a leadership team for a community. It is a big indictment of Deputy President William Ruto and his radical wing in the Jubilee leadership for erecting leadership on blackmail, handouts, corruption, economic crimes and sycophancy as opposed to the expected leadership focused on serving the people and boosting their welfare.

What we are witnessing is a bitter truth scenario where bottled up anger and the simmering volcano over massive frustration of the people’s welfare and economic emasculation of the masses in the Rift Valley has exploded to the surface and William Ruto’s Political Tower of Babel in Kalenjinland is crumbling before his very own eyes as his foot soldiers scatter and begin to speak in tongues.

How DP Ruto team bribed Citizen TV Hussein Mohamed to Link rebel MP Kuttuny to Druglords-Akasha brothers

When Murkomen dropped the Akasha drugs bombshell on Kutuny, Hussein Mohamed immediately pulled out the Daily nation newspaper from his pocket where the issue was first reported to read it out. It is a script they both had in the wider scheme of Ruto to silence Kutuny after the ICC stories backfired. Hussein is a Ruto stooge.

Tanga Tanga squad sponsored an article on Star claiming Kutuny fixed Ruto in ICC, but in reality, it was Murkomen who brochured witnesses to testify against Ruto, something that caught him off guard and never responded.

Long gone are the days when Ruto would use his constituents and whip their emotions on such like matters to seek sympathy for political capital.

Final results on tonights debate, Joshua Kutuny: Reasoning 88%, Facts 85%, Sycophancy 8%, Almost crying on TV 5% Kipchumba Murkomen: Reasoning 11%, Facts 4%, Sycophancy 99%, Almost crying on TV 93% Via @OtienoMfalme

Angry Murkomen confirms they have fixed Hon Kuttuny with Akasha drugs for soiling DP Ruto name in Maize scandal

Murkomen: “The thermometer for sycophancy is you Kutuny. The deputy president picked you from the bush where you were selling charcoal and made you MP.
“I picked you in the streets and took you to parliament. I used to give you money every week; my wife used to support you. Even the car you used to campaign- Harrier- was mine, I gave you.” Kutuny.

Now it seems Kuttuny is also in radar of Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) according to Murkomen. Kumbe Kutuny is also a pharmacist?

Drama: Hon Kuttuny humiliates Senator Murkomen over maize cartels- Watch full interview

There was drama, name calling, noise and trading vile on Citizen TV interview moderated by Hussein Mohammed between senate Majority leader Hon Kipchumba Murkomen and Cherangany MP Hon Joshua Kuttuny.

Hon Kuttuny accused senator Murkomen of defending maize cartels who looted funds meant for maize farmers while Murkomen accused Kuttuny for cheap publicity and looking for political mileage by linking DP Ruto to the shameful Maize scandal that has seen Kalejin farmers suffer in the hands of Jubilee regime.

Hon Murkomen was however unable to explain why a company associated with DP Ruto was in the list of those being investigated by the ethics and anti-corruption commission and the directorate of criminal intelligence.

Hon Kuttuny dig deeper by accusing Murkomen of lying to farmers, he said north rift farmers had diversified into other farming including horticulture and dairy farming but their produce was rotting in the farms for lack of cooling facilities, Kuttuny said the region also needs factories to process farm produce as an add value so that farmers can maximise profits and promote employment opportunities mashinani. He faulted Jubilee for reneging on promises since 2013

Hon Murkomen who seemed visibly angry resorted to name calling and making wild allegations to embarrass Kuttuny who was clearly the man of moment given his factual account of problems facing farmers.

Murkomen: “The thermometer for sycophancy is you Kuttuny. The deputy president picked you from the bush where you were selling charcoal and made you MP.

Kuttuny: “I picked you in the streets and took you to parliament. I used to give you money every week; my wife used to support you. Even the car you used to campaign- Harrier- was mine, I gave you.” Kutuny.

Murkomen also hinted that Kuttuny is in the radar of Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) over links with drug barons -the Akasha brothers.

Kuttuny defended hismself saying Murkomen lacked facts and was only dragging his name in the mud to divert attention from the Maize scandal.
