Former Minister dumps Ruto for Gedion Moi’s KANU

Former Cabinet Minister for East African and Regional Cooperation, Musa Sirma, dumped DP William Ruto and joined KANU’s Gideon Moi on Sunday.

Sirma, during the ceremony which took place at the Baringo Senator’s Alphega home in Mogotio Constituency, denounced the famous 2006 Eldama Ravine declaration that saw the Kalenjin community rally behind Ruto as the community spokesperson.

The former Eldama Ravine MP recalled that the declaration was the one that made DP Ruto the deputy president and a Kalenjin elder, hence his current political status

“I regret that pronouncement and apologise to the Kalenjin community for the declaration. I did not know that I was supporting a leader who could be against me with time,” Sirma regretted.

It was in Sirma’s Eldama Ravine Constituency that MPs from the Kalenjin community converged and endorsed Ruto, who was then Eldoret North MP, for president on an ODM-Kenya ticket ahead of the 2007 elections. Sirma thereafter led a team of crusaders in revolting against the Moi family in the North Rift.

“I have accepted to work and assure you we will walk together. Someone should not tell us Gideon is a son to a dynasty. It’s better to have a dynasty than a corrupt individual,” Sirma declared.

Gideon applauded Sirma’s decision, saying he was ready to work with leaders like the former MP, who were genuine and honest. According to him, Kanu party was quietly conducting recruitment even as it supported President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government, as it planned to be part of the government in 2022.

He dismissed claims that he had been blocking politicians from seeing former President Daniel Moi at the latter’s Kabarak home.

“I’m not a watchman. You cannot ambush former President Daniel Moi. Even President Uhuru makes arrangements. I also don’t just enter his place anyhow. There are protocols, just make arrangements,” Gideon stated.

Sirma, who was accompanied by 300 supporters and members of the Lembus Council of Elder, was immediately declared the Eldama Ravine sub-county KANU branch chairman.

Kalembe Ndile cries foul, claims life in danger after confrontation with Gov. Mutua

Rivalry between Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua and former Kibwezi Member of Parliament Kalembe Ndile has now taken a new twist after the latter recorded a statement with the police over alleged threats on his life.

Addressing a press conference in Nairobi, the ex-politician said he was accosted by unknown individuals in a Machakos County government vehicle who threatened to break his leg if he did not stop antagonising the former government spokesman.

Ndile, who recorded the statement at Parliament Police Station in Nairobi, said he did not take the threats lightly, further accusing Governor Mutua of using county resources to harass him.

“A man in a white pick-up vehicle with county government number plates approached me and told me to move from Mlolongo or else they will break my other leg,” said Ndile, who previously suffered a broken leg in an accident two years ago.

The former legislator, who was flanked by by former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo and Nairobi businessman Stanley Livondo, called for government protection saying he will not be intimidated.

Ndile has in recent times been embroiled in a squabble with Governor Mutua over utterances he made after the county chief visited Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and lamented over the poor state of national statues and monuments.

Mutua promised to personally oversee the refurbishment and maintenance of the statues, remarks which were rubbished by Kalembe who urged the governor to use the funds to develop Machakos County instead.

Following the statement, the county government Health department on Wednesday moved in and closed Ndile’s Macha Beach Hotel and arrested seven workers who were later charged.

The hotel was also cited for being built on riparian land among other illegalities.

The former MP’s rental apartments in Mlolongo were also raided by county government officials and tenants arrested.

The county government, in a notice to Ndile, accused him of constructing a commercial building without approved drawings and occupying the building which was under construction without a certificate of occupation.

He was thereby directed to produce the documents or have the tenants vacate the building.

Ndile has however said he has all the documents relating to the building and would sue the county government on Monday.

His tribulations have roped in Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko who on Thursday visited Machakos with several city legislators and condemned the closure of the hotel and arrest of workers.

Governor Mutua has since stated that his comments on the neglect of statues in Nairobi was not directed to Governor Sonko but the National Museums of Kenya.

Stop making unnecessary political trips to Nyamira, WON’T vote you, DP Ruto told

Deputy President William Ruto’s tour to Ekerenyo on Monday has elicited reactions from Orange Democratic Movement party.

Former Kitutu Chache South MP aspirant Samuel Omwando said DP Ruto’s visit to Ekerenyo in Nyamira County on Monday is of less importance.

The vocal politician urged DP Ruto to stop making unnecessary trips to Nyamira.

“DP Ruto is trying to seek political relevance where he can’t get it. Nyamira remains an opposition stronghold even if DP Ruto sets up camp in Nyamira ahead of the 2022 polls,” said Omwando on Sunday at Nyamataro.

Omwando, who doubles as Kisii County Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party chairman, termed DP Ruto a petty loser loitering across the country.

“DP Ruto should first tell the people of Nyamira why the several projects he has been launching and commissioning such as Bonyunyu dam are yet to start.

“It is high time DP Ruto to stop wasting time visiting the vote rich county in seek of support ahead of the 2022 polls,” Omwando argued.

Omwando noted that DP Ruto even if he presides over a million fundraisers in the vote rich Gusii region, he won’t get votes in 2022.

The country is heading on the wrong direction- Infotrack

Poll results released by infotrak on Sunday disclosed that Kenyans viewed unemployment as the biggest issue facing the country as at June 2019

The research and consulting firm carried out a trend analysis of the issues of most concern to Kenyans between August 2018 and July 2019.

29 per cent of Kenyans singled out unemployment as the single most pressing concern, with the high cost of living coming in at number two with 21 per cent.

Corruption, insecurity and food security made up the other three positions in the top five with 16%, 5% and 4% respectively.

This was a shift from the results gathered back in December 2018 in which the high cost of living was the biggest issue for Kenyans at the time with 24 per cent of the sample size agreeing.

Unemployment was the second biggest issue back then with 23 per cent of Kenyans picked during the survey ticking the unemployment box, which was the same figure captured in August 2018.

A closer look at previous surveys by the same pollster indicates that unemployment, corruption and the high cost of living have always topped the list of concerns at the close of the year.

2019 was heralded as the opportune time to usher in an era of economic prosperity, anchored on a lower cost of living, increased business and job opportunities.

However. that was not the case as shown by a comparative analysis of the issues Kenyans consider most pressing in the latest poll.

The Jubilee government has however maintained that Key investments in the Big Four agenda will put the country’s economy back on track.

Ruto is an enemy of the handshake, has no goodwill for Kenyans- Hon. Kutuny

Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny has asked leaders from Jubilee and NASA to support the handshake.

Speaking at Chebara Primary School during a thanksgiving ceremony following the retirement of his mother-in-law Ruth Kiptoo, Kutuny said that the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga has benefitted Kenyans in various ways.

The lawmaker argued that leaders opposed to the handshake between have no goodwill for Kenya as a nation.

He also reminded Kenyans on the need to embrace the good ideas of the two leaders if they want to realise development in their regions.

The MP further hailed the ODM leader for agreeing to work with Uhuru.

“He saw the country as bigger than his personal political ambition and entered a pact with the President, which calmed political tension. Those opposed to the handshake are enemies of peace,” said Kutuny who also noted that no one can afford to ignore the opposition leader as long as he remains in the political arena.

“You cannot afford to ignore Raila by eating while he is outside,”

“I am sorry my brother” MUTUA apologises to SONKO in MUSYI FM

By Jacob Mutinda

Embattled Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has apologised to Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko for attacking him by saying he had failed in maintaining the national monuments in Central Business District.

Speaking yesterday to one of popular Kamba radio stations Musyi FM, governor Mutua said he didn’t know all the statues are supposed to be maintained by the Ministry of Vulture and Sports through National Museums of Kenya.

The former government spokesman regretted that he rushed into condemning the Nairobi County boss without establishing the facts.

He asked governor Sonko for forgiveness saying he never meant to be disrespectful towards him by undermining his work.

Mutua’s apology comes after governor Sonko and other Ukambani leaders held a mega rally outside Machakos police station where Mutua was roasted for being disrespectful.

I humbly ask my brother governor Mike Sonko to find it in his heart to forgive me for what I said about me. I never meant to offend or attack him althpught I was misled that national monuments are under County Governments. I also request my brother and other leaders from Ukambani to stop attacking my person in public Rallies. Kama kuna shida, gavana anitafute tuongee. Hakuuna haja ya matusi” Said Dr. Mutua.

According to political analysts, Mutua’s move to apologise was the best he could do to quell the fire that he started.

People faulted Mutua for traveling all the way from Machakos County to Nairobi to purport to oversight another governors job.

Mutua however requested Sonko to work with him.

Stop campaigning in western Kenya, Ex CS Echesa tells DP Ruto

Former Sports and Culture Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has told Deputy President William Ruto not to waste time campaigning for his 2022 presidential bid in Western Kenya.

Echesa argued that he had volunteered to mobilize other Western Kenya leaders to canvass for the support of Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambitions across the region.

Speaking at a function in Mumias, Kakamega county, where the DP and other leaders from the region had attended, the former CS admitted that campaigning for a presidential seat was not a walk in the park.

He also said winning presidential elections was not easy and that it necessitates concerted efforts from a group of united leaders, who would unleash a strong and incontestable campaign strategy.

Echesa further advised ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to jump ship from the opposition side and join the Deputy President so that they would win the top seat as a team.
The ex-government official told the DP that there was no need for him to campaign in Western Kenya since he had a team that would do so on his behalf.

“You don’t need to campaign here. You are at home. Leave that job for us,” he said.

While appealing to Ruto’s allies to unite in preparation for 2022 elections, Echesa also requested them to be open to partnerships from other political players.

Tanzanian MP cries for Hon. Babu Owino’s help after abduction of his aide by the state

Kigona Urban MP Zitto Kabwe has written to Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino over his missing aide.

Mr Kabwe, in a letter posted by the youthful MP, said that Tanzanian authorities abducted a Kenyan citizen, Raphael Ongangi, who served as his aide before venturing into business.

According to the veteran MP, Mr Ongangi was kidnapped by state agents but efforts to know his whereabouts remains futile. He says that Kenyan embassy is yet to address the matter.

“Today is the 6th day since he was abducted on Monday night 24th June. He was with his wife ( a Tanzanian ). Kenyan embassy here in Dar was properly informed and police was informed by the wife immediately after abduction. Raphael was my PA between 2009 and 2016. Then he ventured into business,” wrote Zitto.

He claimed that Kenyan High Commissioner to Tanzania Dan Kazungu has refused to give him attention. He now wants Babu Owino to formally introduce the issue with Kenyan government.

“Kenyan govt is quite about the matter while we know Raphael is with state security. I tried to meet Kenyan ambassador in Dar he declined to see me. I kindly ask that you take the matter with Kenyan parliament to demand GoK to explain what it is doing about Raphael abduction. Also we ask for your support on social media to raise the issue,” he said.

Ongangi’s wife Veronica Kundya had narrated the woeful experience surrounding the alleged abduction. The abductors did not give any explanation while whisking Ongangi away.

“They left me with instructions to wait for further information, and about an hour later, I received a call from my husband with instructions that I should go home and not report the incident anywhere,” said the mother of two.

Mr Owino is expected to raise the matter formally in Kenyan Parliament next week after he returns from South Africa where he is attending a Parliamentary function.

ODM will be the winning team, We will form the next government- Gov. Oparanya

ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga will oversee the overhaul of the opposition party in preparation for the 2022 General Election.

Nation reported that ODM’s top party organ the National Executive Council, on Friday gave Odinga the go-ahead to start shopping for potential partners ahead of the 2022 polls.

The party has embarked on a drive to strengthen itself at the grassroots as well as the top in order to clinch power when President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term comes to an end.

Deputy Party Leader and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya told reporters that the party will quietly begin reaching out to possible allies with whom they share the same vision for the country.

Going forward the opposition party will constitute a board to oversight the secretariat. ODM will also change the process of selecting its flagbearers for different elective positions.

“The choice of partners has been our undoing in the last two presidential elections. Guided by our party leader, we are keen to do it differently this time. I can assure you it will be the winning team, we will form the next government,” Oparanya vowed.

ODM’s National Executive Council (NEC) met in Nakuru for two days, ending Friday to review its systems and processes amid growing internal concern.

“Going forward, we will have a board to oversight the secretariat, not because they have not done well. The aim is to make the party more vibrant as we head to the next elections,” ODM Chairman John Mbadi disclosed.

Close allies of Odinga have been pushing him to take another shot at the presidency in 2022.

The only time ODM went for elections alone was in 2007 when it failed to clinch the country’s top seat by a whisker. In 2013, the party teamed up with Wiper and Ford Kenya to form the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD)

In 2017, other than the two parties, former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC party joined the team to drum up support for Odinga in an outfit they named the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Ruto’s biggest headache! Murathe remains Jubilee party Vice Chair months after resignation

Barely five months after his dramatic exit from Jubilee as the Party vice chairman, party records shows that David Murathe is still the party’s Vice chairman despite publicly declaring that he had resigned.

According to the latest report by Auditor General Edward Ouko which was carried out in a move to determine the total amount of money each party was allocated after the 2017 general elections, records from the Jubilee party show that Murathe was still in charge of the party’s vice chair post.

David Murathe had announced his resignations from the party in January 2019 after going on an all-out assault on Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential ambitions.
This was after an uproar from a section of leaders allied to William Ruto calling for his resignation.

After days of tension in the party, Murathe decided to quit saying his position at Jubilee was no longer tenable.

“I now find that it is no longer tenable to stay on as the party vice-chairman. There is no way I am going to sit in the same NEC with someone who feels I am out to block him from ascending to the presidency. I have quit my position,” said Murathe in January while announcing his resignation.

Murathe, who is a close friend of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ex-Gatanga MP, has been so vocal against William Ruto’s 2022 ambitions maintaining that Ruto is not eligible to run for president because his fate is constitutionally intertwined with the President’s.

He had threatened to move to court to seek the Judicial’s interpretation of the constitution which states that the President can only serve for two terms in office. According to Murathe, Deputy President’s office is part of the presidency since the two are elected at the same time hence their respective terms should also end at the end of their second term in office.

“Section 148 of the Constitution says nobody can run for Deputy President for more than two terms. And why does it say that? Because Section 142 also says nobody can run for President for more than two terms, and this presidency is a pair…

If for whatever reason the president is not able to carry out his functions, who becomes the president? Can the President sack the DP? Can he? So in essence, if he automatically becomes President without going for the mandate of the voter, it means he is still riding on the very first mandate they were given as a pair. Then that is why he can’t run again…” observed Murathe.

Recent reports indicating that Murathe still holds the post despite resigning is expected to deepen cracks in the ruling party which is currently fighting for its survivals beyond 2022 after a series of disagreements and blame games between its members.

This comes at a time William Ruto’s brigade is also calling for the resignation of the party’s general secretary Raphael Tuju who according to them, is working with their enemies to jeopardize William Ruto’s 2022 ambitions.

The leaders have vowed to continue billing pressure on Tuju to resign over what thy allegedly as fueling division within the ruling party. The legislators cited an audio clip doing rounds on social media, featuring voices suspected to be those of Tuju and Kiambu politician George Nyanja.

From the audio Tuju is allegedly accused of fixing William Ruto in the 2007-2008 Kiambaa church massacre accusing him of going round dishing out cash to other churches while ignoring the Kiambaa church which was razed down by alleged Ruto’s goons.

LEAKED: List of DP Ruto aides who authored fake murder plot letter- DCI reveals

Investigations into the alleged “assassination plot” targeting Deputy President William Ruto continued at the weekend even as police narrowed down to two aides suspected to have generated and circulated a fake letter. DP Ruto has the highest number of communication professionals in the government payroll, much bigger than Statehouse. Some of the aides joined DP Ruto PR team after they were kicked out from Statehouse following persistent misconduct including undermining their former boss Manoah Esisipus who is now Kenya’s high commissioner to United Kingdom.

In 2018 employment contracts of the notorious Statehouse directors came to an end and they were renewed under DP Ruto’s office since Statehouse had already kicked them out. The said directors among them Itumbi, Munyori Buku, Eri Ngeno, James Kinyua now operate from DP Ruto’s Karen office and rarely step at Harambee house annex. They joined Ruto’s old team that is headed by David Mugonyi (who is a permanent staff of Parliament but seconded to DP Ruto’s office) and the colorless Emanuel Talam a former KTN business news anchor. It is suspected that Talam and one other are the authors of the said fake letter.

Nation media further reports:

BACKFIRED

Authorities are now convinced that the duo from the communications department were behind the document that has created a storm in the last week after four Cabinet secretaries were summoned at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation on Monday.

There had been strong indications Friday that the pair from Dr Ruto’s office, whose phones were off throughout the weekend, would be questioned by detectives but this is yet to be done as investigators follow crucial leads. This came as questions linger over the intention of releasing the letter and a subsequent audio clip that appeared to “confirm” such a meeting took place.

On Saturday, DCI boss George Kinoti remained tight-lipped on whether there would be arrests as his officers confided that investigations so far had absolved senior government officials who were alleged to have been in a meeting to plot the murder”.

“Investigations are still ongoing. I can’t say anything that can jeopardise them,” Mr Kinoti told the Sunday Nation.
Related Stories

A high-ranking official at the Interior ministry conversant with the matter told Sunday Nation that detectives had been instructed to adopt a wait-and-see approach before making any move on those suspected to have drafted the letter.

The fear of spending the weekend in the cells had seen one of the two aides to the DP move out of Nairobi as the other switched off his phones.

“Those who wrote the letter are now well-known. Whatever they had in mind has backfired,” said the official.

CONTENT

The letter is believed to have been drafted and printed in a cybercafe on Lang’ata Road with the intention of disrupting meetings held by senior Mount Kenya officials to apparently counter Dr Ruto’s inroads in the region.

Dated May 30, 2019, the letter claims that a meeting was convened at Hotel La Mada behind the National Intelligence Service (NIS) headquarters to discuss how to “shore up support for the President in Mt Kenya and its diaspora” and the issue of Mr Ruto’s “assassination”.

So far, investigations into the letter’s contents has left more questions than answers on whether there was such a plot in the first place.

Strange similarities between Miguna and Robert Alai; both used, dumped by Uhuru, angling for Ruto cash

By Onyinkwa Onyakundi

Miguna Miguna and Robert Alai hail from the same area. Their homes are just a short distance apart in Nyando, Kisumu County. They both came into the national limelight through their bold pro people activities, and support for Raila Odinga’s push for a better Kenya. This made both of them extremely popular with the masses. Both ~ tragically ~ were in it for personal benefit, and after making their names under the shadow of Raila’s wings, made the fatal blunder of thinking that their popularity was a product of their own making, and that it’d follow them to wherever they went.

Both fell for Uhuruto’s treachery when the deceptive duo dangled loads of cash, and they crossed over to Jubilee, bought off like Goats at a Market. To make their mark in Jubilee and prove their value, both engaged in some of the most venomous loads of insults ever aimed at Raila Odinga. This obviously greatly diminished their value in the eyes of Kenyans. It angered Kenyans so much that when the same Jubilee on whose behalf they had turned against public good begun punishing them, most Kenyans saw and treated it as ‘Msiba wa kujitakia’.

Both are currently in one form of incarceration or the other. Miguna Miguna is out there in the cold, declared a foreigner and banned by his Jubilee boyfriends from ever setting foot in Kenya. Robert Alai is in some dark, cold cell declared a terrorist and banned by his Jubilee boyfriends from stepping outside. And Kenyans don’t give a fuck because they say ‘snitches deserve stitches’. And oh! Upon being bought, both insulted the ‘walking constitution’ that previously used to bail them out whenever Jubilee attempted what they are doing to them now.

And on a slightly different note folks. Did you know that the name ‘Nyando’ is a Kisii name? The name ‘Nyando’ is Ekegusii for ‘the place of Lions’. Back in the day we the Abagusii lived in Kisumu, the area presently known as Nyando was teeming with wildlife, and that particular area along which River Nyando meanders, is where prides of Lions would hang out waiting for prey coming from all over to quench their thirst. As recently as when we were kids, one of the things we looked forward to whenever we went on a road trip to Kisumu was to see the herds of Impala that would be grazing by the roadside from around Katito all the way to Kisumu town.

My point is that from a Kisii perspective, both Miguna Miguna and Robert Alai desecrated the name ‘Nyando’ by acting like Hyenas rather than the Lions that we expect to see emerge from Nyando. It makes us wish we had named the place ‘Nyang’au’. It is on this basis that we the Abagusii Men’s Emancipation Network ~ AMEN ~ urge the people of Nyando to banish the two Hyenas from their constituency. The only place fit for them is Ondiek Estate of Kisumu City.

Memo to Uhuru Kenyatta: Finish up and Go

By David Ndii

December 30 ought to be a memorable day on Kenya’s political calendar. On this day in 2002, Mwai Kibaki took office as the first democratically elected President of Kenya. When it is remembered, though, it is not for the inauguration of Kibaki, but for Moi’s humiliation. The only account we have of the chaotic event is that of Lee Njiru, Moi’s communications chief. According to Njiru, as soon as Uhuru Kenyatta conceded defeat on the afternoon of the 29th, the Kibaki people insisted on an immediate handover. The inauguration was scheduled for the following day without any consultations. At 3 p.m. on that day, Moi got tired of waiting and decided to go down to Uhuru park to get it over and done with. This is how he ended up in the chaotic situation, being jeered at and pelted with mud, bottles and whatever else people could lay their hands on. Kibaki’s description of Moi’s tenure as “years of misrule and ineptitude” did not suggest that there was any intention to treat Moi kindly.

Shortly after assuming power, the NARC administration replaced Moi’s face on the currency with Jomo Kenyatta’s. It was illadvised. By then, the NARC dream had dissolved into a toxic nightmare. The Kibaki men — later to emerge as the AngloLeasing cabal — had walked out of Bomas and gone off to write the Wako/Kilifi draft constitution. Seen through the prism of the NARC fallout, this was not just further humiliation of Moi; it symbolised the resurgence of Kikuyu restorationism — the thing Kikuyu supremacists metaphorise as gΕ«cookia rΕ«Ε«Δ« mΕ«karo, literally, returning the river to its course, meaning the return of power to where it belongs. For some reason, the Kibaki men seemed to have conflated Moi’s humiliation with the redemption of Jomo Kenyatta. They were mistaken. The rejection of Uhuru Kenyatta in the presidential bid in Central Kenyawas, in part, antipathy towards his father’s rule which had already cost him the Gatundu parliamentary seat in 1997. KaΔ« tΕ«gΕ«thΔ«njΔ«ra hiti keerΔ«? (are we to slaughter our goat for hyenas a second time?), people would ask.

A decade later the humiliation was invoked in conversations that would have seemed completely unrelated — the constitutional debate on the features Kenyan currency should have. It is these sentiments that informed the constitutional provision that outlaws portraits of individuals on the currency. So there was considerable disquiet in many quarters recently when new notes revealed a disingenuous way of keeping Kenyatta’s image on the currency — his statue prominently in the foreground of the Kenyatta International Conference Centre. There are many arresting images of the KICC that do not feature the statue. The State will no doubt seek, and may find defense in legal interpretation, but it is not lost on anyone that the intention is to defeat the spirit of the Constitution. The timing is awful.

I was at a social gathering in Kiambu recently where the dismay and disillusionment with Uhuru Kenyatta hovered over the otherwise succulent goat ribs and aged single malts like the smell of stale beer. The question was raised as to how the gathering would like their sentiments conveyed to Kenyatta. The “session chairman” distilled the sentiments aired into a four-point message: AndΕ« mena thΔ«na mΕ«no (the people are suffering a lot); Ee toro ta Njoramu (he slumbers like the biblical Joram); NΔ«tΕ«menyete nΔ« mΕ«koroku ta ithe (we have learned he is as greedy as his father); NΔ« gΕ«tee (we wasted our votes).

Seemingly unaware of these undercurrents in his backyard, or perhaps all too aware of them, Kenyatta recently appeared at a public gathering where — forgetting that he is the president of all Kenyans — he unleashed a diatribe in Kikuyu, repeatedly addressing the gathering as “andΕ« aitΕ«” (“our people”), and assuring them that he was on top of things. I gather that the outburst was triggered by his deputy arriving at the meeting fashionably late. We witnessed the same thing happen at Kenneth Matiba’s funeral service in Murang’a when Kenyatta came out guns blazing. But his outburst at the Akorino event is of far greater significance.

I was at a social gathering in Kiambu recently where the dismay and disillusionment with Uhuru Kenyatta hovered over the otherwise succulent goat ribs and aged single malts like the smell of stale beer.
The Uhuru-Ruto political pact was sold to the Kikuyu as a peace treaty that would shield the Kikuyu diaspora in the Rift Valley from politically motivated violence — a homegrown solution for which the Kikuyu sacrificed justice for the victims of the 2007/8 post-election violence. The Akorino community has a large presence in the Rift Valley epicenters of political violence. With their distinctive white turbans, this insular, exclusively Kikuyu sect, is a vulnerable, easy target. During Ruto’s trial at the International Criminal Court, evidence was adduced that the Akorino were specifically targeted using the euphemism “plucking mushrooms.” Ruto was personally implicated in the incitement and his defiant arrival at the Akorino meeting would have been unsettling for both Kenyatta and the Akorino — it was as if he had showed up to remind them that they have a deal, and that choices have consequences. Kenyatta, who is not given to introspection or self-restraint, let rip.

The Kenyatta-Ruto succession is the third chapter in the Kikuyu-Kalenjin land-for-power pact which began with the cooption of KADU into the Government, bringing Moi into the centre of power at the expense of Oginga Odinga. In 1967 Moi was elevated to the vice-presidency at the expense of more capable leaders — notably Tom Mboya. Prof. Anyang Nyong’o recalls asking Lee Kwan Yew for his thoughts on how Singapore’s and Kenya’s development trajectories diverged, to
which Lee Kwan Yew quipped that we had killed Mboya. The deal with Moi facilitated the migration of the Kikuyu peasantry into the Rift Valley, which in turn enabled Kenyatta and other wealthy Kikuyu notables to acquire for themselves the migrants’ more valuable ancestral lands in central Kenya.

Then came the Kenyatta succession intrigues that can be said to have begun with Mboya’s assassination and the Gatundu oathing ceremonies that sought to ensure that “biki biki itigakΔ«ra Chania (the motorcycle outriders will never cross the Chania River, meaning that power would remain in Kiambu). The machinations ranged from an attempt at constitutional change to preclude the Vice President from assuming power in the event of the president’s death (that elicited Charles Njonjo’s decree purporting to criminalise imagining the death of the president) to the more sinister Ngoroko affair, a hit squad embedded in the anti-stock theft police unit suspected to have been meant to assassinate or otherwise incapacitate Moi when Kenyatta died. The scheme was predicated on Kenyatta dying in Nakuru, his favourite retreat, in which case the schemers would have been the first to know. But Kenyatta died at the Coast.

It is now clear that, for whatever reason, Kenyatta and the interest groups he represents have decided that it is not in their interest that he be succeeded by William Ruto. What is unclear is whether there is a Plan B because Plan A, a corruption takedown, is not working. There is only one way to make it work and that is to convict Ruto for corruption. But such is the obsession with neutralising him that they just could not resist the opportunity to weaponise the change of currency notes for a financial takedown. It is believed that a sizeable chunk of William Ruto’s seemingly inexhaustible political war chest is hoarded in cash that he may not be able to convert to the new currency, in effect rendering the stash valueless.

Prof. Anyang Nyong’o recalls asking Lee Kwan Yew for his thoughts on how Singapore’s and Kenya’s development trajectories diverged, to which Lee Kwan Yew quipped that we had killed Mboya
Article 262 (34) of the Constitution — the transitional provision relating to the currency change — states that “Nothing in Article 231 (4) affects the validity of coins and notes issued before the effective date.” Conflating the currency change mandated by the Constitution with this purported war on money laundering has left Ruto’s takedown hostage to the interpretation of this provision by the courts. But even the presumption that repudiating the cash hoards will cripple Ruto financially, and that crippling him financially will neutralise him politically, is wishful thinking. Uhuru Kenyatta’s anti-Ruto schemes are evidently as hare-brained as his father’s acolytes’ ill-fated anti-Moi schemes. And like Moi before him, the longer he survives this onslaught, and the more Uhuru Kenyatta reverts to type — ethnic chauvinism, contempt, dynastic privilege and arrogance of power — the stronger Ruto becomes.
The Kenyatta-Ruto succession is the third chapter in the Kikuyu-Kalenjin land-for-power pact which began with the cooption of KADU into the Government, bringing Moi into the centre of power at the expense of Oginga Odinga. In their “handshake” memorandum, titled “Building Bridges to a New Kenyan Nation,” Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga promised
to lead the nation in correcting the sins of their fathers:

We are grateful for our fathers, we stand on their shoulders. Yet we can also see that the promise of our nation has not been met as fully as it should have been; we know there are different measures our founding fathers should have taken as they forged this young nation. H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta and H.E. Raila Odinga are the two leaders who symbolise the many ways in which the country has gone full circle in its divisions. Intent on not witnessing the country suffer similar future cycles of the same tribulations it has since 1963, they are determined to offer the leadership that prevents future generations inheriting dangerous divisions and offer them a path to a bright future for all.
We have seen none of this. What we see instead is the same shameless politics of self-preservation, cynical ethnic mobilisation, arrogance of power and that quintessential Kenyatta disease — greed.

It has recently emerged that Uhuru Kenyatta is exerting pressure on the government to prioritise the upgrading of the Nairobi Eastern by-pass specifically to benefit the Northlands satellite city project on one of the family’s expansive, dubiously acquired, land holdings. Last week, the official State House twitter handle @StateHouseKenya was promoting Stawi, the lending platform fronted by the Commercial Bank of Africa, the Kenyatta family bank featured in this column some weeks ago. The Central Bank Governor — who is now doubling up as CBA’s chief marketing officer — lied to the public that Stawi will provide cheap credit to small businesses at an interest rate of 9 per cent per year, while in truth, the cost of the loans as measured by the annual percentage rate (APR) averages 35 per cent, and is no different from other digital lenders in the market. Corruption could not be more egregious.

In their “handshake” memorandum, titled “Building Bridges to a New Kenyan Nation,” Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga promised to lead the nation in correcting the sins of their fathers
Yet some Kenyans continue to cling to the hope that he is fighting corruption. Uhuru is not fighting corruption. He is fighting Ruto. And he no longer bothers to hide the fact that he is using state power, his office and public resources to further his private business interests. Much of what we are seeing from him suggests that he may be under the impression that the “Kenya” in Kenyatta is proprietary. One of the sins of the fathers is the personality cult that Uhuru Kenyatta is hell-bent on perpetuating by retaining his father’s image on our currency, against the letter and spirit of the constitution he has sworn to defend. But all is not lost. By showing us the middle finger, Uhuru Kenyatta has ensured that there will come a time to do unto Kenyatta what was done to Moi. And when the music starts, it will not stop at the currency — streets, airports and universities will be fair game.

Having floundered on providing the promised leadership — no surprises there — the handshake is now clinging onto the hope of constitutional amendments to either exclude or neutralise Ruto, a scheme reminiscent of the 1966 Limuru KANU Conference constitutional amendments that replaced the deputy party leader’s position with eight regional vice presidents, in effect ending Oginga Odinga’s chances of succeeding Kenyatta. This constitutional amendment scheme is now a poisoned chalice. We say in Gikuyu, mbΕ«ri igΕ«thinjwo ndionagio kahiΕ« (one does not approach a goat for slaughter with the knife in full view).

We have seen none of this. What we see instead is the same shameless politics of self-preservation, cynical ethnic mobilisation, arrogance of power and that quintessential Kenyatta disease — greed.
I have stated many times, and I will restate here again that the leadership that Uhuru and Raila promised behoves them to play the role of honest statesmen who would midwife political reforms leading up to a free and fair election, followed by retirement for both of them. But they have eschewed statesmanship for skulduggery and political intrigue, lending credence to suspicions that the handshake is nothing more than a Kenyatta self-preservation scheme to which Raila Odinga has been enticed with a share of the spoils and a reinstatement of the Odinga clan to the pantheon of Kenya’s ruling dynasties. It is time to end this nonsense.
With nothing but political blunders and policy failures behind him, there is only one thing left that Uhuru Kenyatta can do for Kenya, and that is this:

Mr Uhuru Kenyatta please do us and yourself a big favour; you have neither the mandate nor the wherewithal to shape our political destiny. Just finish up and go

DP Ruto is a coward, can’t face CS Matiangi, instead targets PS Kibicho coz he is Kikuyu

By Sospeter Otieno

I have known Dr. Kibicho since I was like 17, and he is such a humble man, who even though he was relatively successful, had time to mentor small boys. So if you have a tiff with him, you are most likely the bad & disrespectful one. The guy can’t even hit a fly. The only reason the DP would target Dr. Kibicho and not his boss Dr. Matiang’i is because of 41:1(well chosen targets). Dr. Matiang’i has the overall execution responsibility over the interior docket, and has huge sway over the Kisii vote. So it’s politically convenient to target his mtu ya mkono, only because he is a Mugikuyu. Purely political move.

The DP has given up on Mt. Kenya vote & seems to have made up his mind to focus on the 41 tribe non-Kikuyu vote and is now leading a hate campaign against the Mt. Kenya leaders. How can greedy Ndindi Nyoro, Waititu, Kimani Ngunjiri and Kimani Ichung’wa -guided by their greedy stomachs- collaborate in this heinous scheme against their own people?

The assassination allegation by DP wing is a dangerous, well calculated and coded incitement message, that seems intended to reset his tribesmen into the 2007 Kiambaa church burning mode. Already, one of the radicalized Ruto supporters invaded State House with a knife πŸ”ͺ with the intention of stabbing the president. Rather than make radicalization grade charges, Ruto should have gone through the government channels.

The DP comes out in all this as an insecure, rubble rousing and antagonistic individual, into whom power had gotten, but which is now being deflated slowly, and you know what happens when a hot air balloon deflates? It starts descending, at a rate proportional to the speed of deflation. The DP is a drama queen who is scared of not whether but when and how hard he is gonna hit the ground. I would be scared too.

…perhaps Mt Kenya voters should tell us how peace has brought development with Jubilee in power via rigging…..

It is no longer a matter debate that Jubilee six year rule is nothing but economic plunder, misrule , corruption and unemployment, all these vices are ingredients of a near failed state with more than 60% of the population living below the poverty level. Well, an opportunity to kick out Jubilee and set country on a recovery path under Baba Raila, Musalia Mudavadi, Isaac Ruto among other well meaning Kenyans was muted by Mt Kenya mafia who clinged onto power and requested for peace in order to spur economic growth

Question to Moses Kuria and his Nairobi business community; how has the peace you demanded help sort out poverty stricken Mt Kenya voters? Can we ever rise above politics of tribe?

SOME THOUGHTS ON THE ON-GOING CULTURE OF PERSECUTION COMPLEX AMONG SOME KENYANS

Defined, the term “Persecution Complex” is “…..an irrational and obsessive feeling or fear that one is the object of collective hostility or ill-treatment on the part of others.” (Wikipedia)

A close relative of the term is “Persecutory Delusion”: A set of delusional conditions in which the affected persons believe they are being persecuted (Mayo Clinic)

Finally, the corollary of the foregoing is playing victim or developing a “victim mentality”.

Defined, a “victim mentality” is an acquired personality trait where a person sees themselves as a victim of the negative actions of others, and behaves as if this were the case even when the evidence of such circumstances is scant. (Wikipedia)

I wanted to address this construct because of yet another attempt by some Kenyans to deflect from the on-going reality of a leaderless and rudderless country and a moribund economy in a deep nose-dive to a desperate search for sympathy – as reflected in the inanity – that the “right to assembly and association (sic)…..is no longer a guarantee…..blah….blah…..” – as read on some FB wall.

This desperate search for sympathy has been latched onto by many including one commenter during this AM’s exchange who offered that “the persecution complex has to be there”.

The commenter offered the view in response to the morning’s post about the treachery of Uhuru Kenyatta and his Mt. Kenya base – against William Ruto and his Rift Valley base.

Let me set aside the ensuing avoidance when I explained the irrationality that underpinned the comment and point out that there IS a belief among some Kenyans that they are (being) “targeted” i.e. (being) persecuted for a host of reasons:

These Kenyans believe that they are (being) persecuted because they are “hard-working”; “god-chosen”; “stalwarts of the fight for independence” and a host of other self-congratulatory bullshit that they pile on to make themselves feel, in the words of John Rogers, “hard done by” – ESPECIALLY when criticized or called to granularize their self-perception.

They go on to distort any questions about their self-perception and self-described “accomplishments” and “achievements” into a woe-is-me narrative; that since they are “being persecuted”, they must be doing something “right”; this the classic argumentum ad martyrdom trope.

These folks have convinced themselves that their allegedly prominent role in Kenya’s “fight for independence” and her “unparalleled and enviable development” has made them the targets of “hatred” and of “jealousy”; of “kimnadho” by others not so “blessed” with such grit and determination!

The self-fulfilling and circular narrative of personal certainty continues along this line: Why would anyone subject themselves to “such hatred” and “vitriol” unless they were doing something “right”; unless they believe in their “vision”; in what they are doing?

Convinced that “everyone” is out to get them, these people circle the wagons and dig in their heels – deeper!

Unfortunately, what they forget is as elemental as it gets:

– That self-perception is as powerful and as it is misleading.

– Worse, that some people have suffered, even lost their lives trying to prove falsehoods. Some have lost everything supporting demagogues or holding on to interpretation of history written by slick-sounding snake oil salesmen – aka politicians – and their toadies aka 36 Bloggers.

And when asked to personalize these slights of persecution i.e. to offer evidence that they ARE indeed victims of unfair and/or unwarranted hostility, very few of the supposedly persecuted can do that and if/when they do, their narratives are few and far between.

Importantly, most of the narratives these people offer reflect (genuine) differences of opinions and/or of philosophies.

Most of them default to sweeping banalities including the tried and true “We just want ‘peace’ so Kenya can ‘develop’…” – as if those who disagree with them love dodging bullets or truncheon-wielding policemen while living in a permanent state of chaos!

Others echo a triumphalism and chest-thumping that masks genuine fear because they know the country’s history and it has proven them wrong – repeatedly so.

The fact is EVERYONE has their story, their truth to tell.

However, dismissing the reality of those in danger or less-powerful; those threatened or hitherto shut-out by a system, any system – instead, flipping the discussion to one more favorable – only widens an existing chasm while heightening the skepticism – offered by those crying foul.

For my part, I will repeat what I wrote in response to comment on persecution complex:

That I am at a peace with speaking out against and/or calling out the socio-political happenings in Kenya as I see them; as I see fit – confident in my opinions and in my views and those who feel “persecuted” can continue to feel so.

“Now go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble.” – Judges 10:14

DP Ruto is too small for me to complain over, PS Kibicho blasts fake reports

The PS had been said to have complained to the DCI that the Deputy President was harassing him. He said he was equally shocked about the reports.

“It is utter nonsense,” Dr Kibicho told press. “I have not made any complaint to anyone. There are people out there hawking falsehoods and they will be embarrassed,” he said.

Dr Kibicho’s comments are likely to further increase tensions between the two Harambee Houses — Annex, which houses the DP’s city centre office, and the Office of the President, which houses the Interior ministry.

Mr Ruto’s allies have consistently accused the Interior PS of being behind attempts to cut the DP down to size.

They claim that it is this attempt to manage the DP’s political influence that has seen county commissioners miss some of Mr Ruto’s events or a failure by the State to provide security at other functions.

As a result, detectives have decided to focus their energies on who wrote the purported letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta claiming that four Cabinet secretaries and Dr Kibicho had met to talk about assassinating Mr Ruto.

Starehe MP “Jaguar” to spend 5 more days behind bars

Starehe Member of Parliament Charles ‘Jaguar’ Njagua will spend another five days at the Kileleshwa police station to allow for more investigations into his incitement case.

This was after the court on Friday granted the Prosecution three working days – excluding Saturday and Sunday – to secure witnesses.

The prosecution had sought to have Jaguar detained for 14 days at the Kamukunji Police Station to allow them finalise their investigations.

Jaguar, who was before Senior Resident Magistrate Sinkyani Tobiko, was charged with making alleged inciteful remarks against foreign traders.

Court papers seen by Citizen Digital on Thursday, said credible intelligence showed that Jaguar had been allegedly planning to mobilise gangs to invade private property and attack foreign nationals residing in the country.

Detectives further revealed that they have so far seized the MPs mobile phone which is yet to be forensically examined.

This follows remarks he made while visiting traders along Kirinyaga Road condemning foreigners from running businesses in Nairobi.

” If you assess our markets, Ugandans and Tanzanians have taken over our businesses… Now we are saying enough is enough. If a 24-hour ultimatum is not enough for them to be deported, we will remove them and we’ll beat them up and we will not fear anyone,” said Njagua.

Citizen TV is fake , being used to fight me, Gov. Sonko says after Mbagathi hospital expose

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has blasted Citizen TV over a story it ran about the state of Mbagathi Hospital.

According to the story, expectant mothers were forced to labour on benches outside, forced to share beds with their newborns due to the negligence of the Nairobi County Government. On the same day, Sonko had donated medical equipment to Machakos County.

Sonko has blasted the media house claiming that the whole story was pure malice sponsored by his political rivals to destroy him.

The controversial county boss who defended himself claimed that the reporter used a stale video clip taken months ago before he had stepped in renovating the hospital.

“They’re saying this is the situation since 26th April 2018 while I personally toured the hospital on 3rd May 2019 to inspect the rehabilitation of the main 120 bed capacity maternity wing with a newborn unit, Labour ward, Kangaroo mother care, 2 maternity modern theatres, an ICU room and a pharmacy which will be ready for use once the works are complete within a month”, read part of his Facebook post.

Mbagathi Hospital has been on the spot over lack of medicine, lack of equipment and facilities, inadequate and qualified manpower, leaking roofs and cracked walls for a while, remarks which Sonko refuted being the hospital’s current situation few months after he rehabilitated.

Sonko who questioned the authenticity of the story asked why the reporter never interviewed any of the patients or their relatives to prove the allegations.

“The framed story was full of malice coz apart from the reporter kuropoka kama parrot there’s no patient or any patient’s relative being interviewed to air their grievances or confirm the said allegations as reported,” he ranted.

Photos: DP Ruto attends daughter’s graduation in Athi River(Daystar university)

Deputy William Ruto and his wife Rachel Ruto on Thursday attended the graduation ceremony of their daughter Stephanie Jepchumba at Strathmore University.

During the graduation ceremony, DP William Ruto rejected to seat at the high table and insisted that he had attended the ceremony as a common parent.

For the big day, the Deputy President opted for a casual look in blue jeans and a maroon t-shirt while his wife chose a short white number.

In June, Ruto’s other daughter, Charlene, was also among hundreds of students from Daystar University in Athi River who graduated with a communications degree.

During that period, he took to social media to celebrate Charlene’s academic achievements.

The deputy president shared photos from the graduation ceremony on his Instagram page with the message, “Today I am a proud father, our daughter from Daystar University. She has made my wife Rachel and I proud. Parents should always strive to support their children in whatever way they can.”

DP Ruto’s mother also attended the graduation.

OLUNGA: “Governor SONKO’s promise of Sh20m motivated us”

By Joseph Mathenge
Kenya’s assistant captain Engineer Michael Olunga has said that their win against Tanzania yesterday was inspired by Nairobi governor Mike Sonko’s promise of Ksh20million.

According to Olunga who also pulled a brace against Taifa Stars, the boys felt motivated by the cash and were eying the prize.

Speaking while receiving his man of the match award, he said the boys will put up the same spirit against Senegal and fight with to the end. He said if they humbled Ghana, they can do it against Senegal.

The brace propelled the Japan-based hitman to the top of Kenya’s all-time top scorers list in the competition with two goals.

Michael Olunga announced himself to the Africa Cup of Nations in spectacular fashion on Thursday night with two quality strikes that powered Kenya to a 3-2 victory over Tanzania in a Group “C” match at 30 June Stadium in Cairo.

All other Kenyan scorers at this stage have just one goal – Jonathan Niva, Daniel Arudhi, Peter Ouma (1972), Micky Weche (1992), Emmanuel Ake, Dennis Oliech and Johna Baraza (2004).

Olunga guided an overhead kick low into the net to open Kenya’s account on the day and then grabbed the winner in fine fashion, charging into Tanzania’s danger area before unleashing a ground hugging shot that beat the despairing Tanzanian goalkeeper Aishi Manula all the way. Johanna Omollo accounted for the other goal by Kenya.

First I want to thank God for the victory. We knew it was a do-or-die match for us. It was very important that we win and we prepared for this,” Olunga said.

I want to thank the leadership of Nairobi led by his Excellency Governor Mike Sonko for the motivation and continued support that propelled us to victory” He added.

DP Ruto will punish entire Mt Kenya if he wins 2022, he is bitter, angry and unforgiving- Hon Thuku

By Wahome Thuku

WHEN Moi was Vice President, he was mistreated and humiliated by a handful of Kikuyu mafia from Kiambu. Its said one or two of the them even physically assaulted him with impunity.

When he took over power in 1978, his mind was fixed on one and only one agenda, to run over the entire Kikuyu race like an earthmover. Not just the few – 10 or 20 – mafia who had offended him but the entire tribe irrigadless.

If he was not detaining them, he was rendering the economically useless. He ensured every sector of their economy collapsed by every available means. He used his henchmen from other regions, he frustrated their businesses, he sparked off tribal clashes leading to death and eviction of young and old Gikuyu generations.

It didn’t matter who you were as long as you came from Central Province you were enemy number one.
You would only survive if you were dead in KANU and Nyayo sycophancy.

Ofcourse the MPesa generation will never know about this, untill history repeats itself.

Team Embrace visits Raila’s bedrock, plans to meet Baby Pendo’s mother

The Embrace Women Group will today (Friday) be pitching camp in Kisumu County, after its recent tour of Muranga County.

The group consists of women leaders in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 2018 truce with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

Led by Youth Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh, the group has argued that its agenda is preaching peace and cohesion among Kenyans.

In a tweet on Friday, the group said that it will be pitching camp in Kisumu County where it will be hosted by area Woman Representative Rosa Buyu.

“Today we are heading to the lakeside city hosted by Hon Rosa Buyu Tukutane Kisumu #EmbraceInKisumu,” read the tweet.

The leaders, according to the tweet, will hold a rally at the Kenyatta Sports Ground in the Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o-led county, and also address matters concerning gender-based violence.

They will also visit Lancer Achieng, mother to the late baby Samantha Pendo who was killed by police officers during the 2017 post-election violence in Nyalenda Estate.

The group has been receiving criticisms from a recently compiled rival group dubbed ‘Inua Mama’, which consists of forces allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

Reactions after Kenyans robbed Safaricom free bundles, minutes and sms(30 days)

Giant Telco company Safaricom is counting huge loses after a technical error saw Kenyans purchase huge data bundles without paying for anything.

Rumours spread like bush fire on social media cycles, that the Safaricom Platinum service was undergoing a technical hitch and you could buy any type of bundle and choose to pay with Bonga Points. Customers got the data, free minutes and free sms even without having the Bonga points.
Thousands of Kenyans used this service to purchase monthly data. At one time, the system had so much traffic that it refused to load. But Kenyans kept going for the free data.
Some people suggested that this might not have been a technical hitch but rather a way of Safaricom celebrating with its users after Kenya’s dramatic win over Tanzania in the Afcon 2019 match played on Thursday night.
