ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale’s voter bribery case during the just ended Malindi by-election case has been dropped.
Police had claimed Etale was arrested with voter materials but the investigating officer could not prove the claim.
On Wednesday, he told the court they found nothing to connect the ODM spokesperson to any crime. The case was then dismissed.
The police had told IEBC that apart from being found with voter materials, Etale was also suspected to be a member of the outlawed Mombasa Republican Council. According to Etale, this allegation, which was not listed in the charge sheet, adds to ODM’s observation that the government is using MRC as a scaremongering tactic.
Etale maintains the prosecution was malicious and will sue the state for damages.
