There has been a plot to assassinate former Deputy Prime Minister and now Amani Leader Musalia Mudavadi and blame it on CORD Leader Raila Odinga, Kenya Today can authoritatively reveal.
In early February, one of the youths involved in an elaborate plan to tarnish the credibility of the opposition CORD at a time the opposition was calling for a referendum vote on IEBC among other national public issues approached Orange House, headquarters of ODM Party situated along Menelik Road, Nairobi, and shared a scary information with a secretariat official.
The man, 28 years old, Luo and working as National Youth Service cleaner of the sprawling Kawangware slums had been among youths recruited to join a select group NYS servicemen in a training at a hotel in Naivasha.
According to him, they were informed they would be the ‘trainer-of-trainees’, a position which elevated him above mere cleaner and put him in authority. Pecks and prestige would follow him wherever he goes.
The training soon turned political with the real intention of the programme being revealed to the group of less than 30 youths who had been picked based on their ‘hard work, dedication and industry’.
As the sessions progressed; the youths, who would soon realize they are either Luos and Luhyas by ethnic extraction, were informed of the government’s plan to empower them but also get ready to ‘defend’ the government. They were told how ‘lucky’ they were to be selected for the programme.
From Naivasha, a leaner group of 12 were taken to Gilgil where they would be separated in four groups of three each. The training soon became suspicious to them. In class, they would be asked if they can kill for the country.
“We were being given examples. A question would be posed like, ‘can you die for the country?’; or, ‘can you kill so and so’, ‘can you be involved in the abduction of so and so’, ‘can you obey an order telling you to trail so and so’, and so on,” he said.
While the questions were hypothetical, the specimen used were real. In many occasions, opposition leaders were used as examples.
As training heightened, including paramilitary rescue and abduction missions; the trainees would be taken for ‘practicals’ where they would trail people both during the day and at night.
Then one day, his trio were informed of an assignment. It turns out the person they were to trail and ‘mark’ was Amani Leader Musalia Mudavadi.
“I understood the consequences of what we were about to do and realised its implication on the broader ethnic relations between hitherto two neighbouring communities (Luos and Luhyas) who refer to each other in ‘family’ terms,” he told an ODM official.
According to the leaker – who requested not to be identified – there were plans by the government to kill Amani Leader Musalia Mudavadi, a luhya, and blame the death on Raila Odinga, a luo. This would be the beginning of inter-ethnic strife between Luos and Luhyas. Raila, particularly, will be blamed for the death and this would deny him Luhya votes, which Jubilee would reap as a consequence of the deadly eventuality.
According to the man, the person to pull the trigger would not be known but three Luo youths would be arrested for it; both claiming after ‘interrogation’ that they had been sent by ODM.
They were to be the Luo Youths.
There were assurances, as the government would muddy investigations, change their identities and enrol them in the army, or fly them away to many of Kenya’s embassies abroad, far from the glare of local press.
